yo what's with memers saying you need humbuckers for metal

single coils sound better unless you're trying to play djent and thrash and even then they're better for leads

Go practice. Gearposting will not make you better.

Noise cancellation, I guess. Disclaimer - I don't know anything about metal.

Ask me anything about P Rails pickups.

Holy shit these sound amazing. You can have them be one or two humbuckers, one or two P90s, SSS like a strat...

These are my favorite guitar pickups.

>tfw when you want to try other strings but each set is £25 and lasts a year
I've always used ernie balls slinkies but idk if I'm a fan of them really, I'd quite like to try daddarios

That's the 920d pick guard rite?
Can you select coils individually?
How does it do with jazz fusion??

Bump

A shitton of gain + single coils in a noisy environment is a recipe for disaster. That and humbuckers have more mids and sound more focused which just works well for metal, the piercing highs and airyness from single coils is just not as desirable. Of course you can make everything work somehow, knock yourself out and play deathmetal on a jazzbox, but there is a reason why people gravitate towards certain pickups and guitars for certain genres.

This but I pay 150-400 bucks for a set of strings on upright bass.

Yes.

Each knob has a push pull. There's a YouTube video on it

>he's too poor and/or stupid to own a Gibson
>he's too stupid to not still use a tube amp

Tell me why I shouldn't get a 5 string bass instead of a 4 string.

My excuse is that I might be downtuning often, and that it'll force me to get good at muting.

Attached: serveimage.jpg (2048x1203, 210K)

Attached: 42AA8EB9-95CC-4387-9FBB-E4D6D141F691.jpg (1125x837, 532K)

my 5 string feels like it weighs twice as much as my 4 string. also most of the music I like is in D-E standard so the low B is mostly useless to me, it is nice to have though.

Attached: 1552399146167.jpg (1754x562, 396K)

Get a 6 string like i am

I'd always wanted a 5-string but I quit playing bass years ago. When I decided to pick it back up I ordered a used 5-string Ibanez off GC.
Turns out I fucking hate the neck profile, it's too wide. I can't move around like I'm used to.

I'm mainly a guitarist, and will probably only get one bass, unless I really get into it.
Does your "nice to have" mean it'll be useful in some way?

I thought about it, but I can't find any cheap, 6-string, passive, PJ-style basses, and they'll probably be heavy as fuck.

>force me to get good at muting
If you're not good at muting then you are quite literally worthless as a bassist. I'm not even joking. So it really doesn't matter whether you use a 4 or 5 string in that regard. Just get a 5er if the music you play calls for it or if you just want one. The low B string can literally become a thumbrest for you 95% of the time, but if you just need to hit a low D or C at some point it's nice to have it there without needing to downtune. Also, don't underestimate the utility of having that extra string. Not having to play the open E string but rather playing it on the 5th fret is great. And just having the option of the darker timbre on the low B string if the song calls for it.

the minimal needs of american rock music should not be mistaken for a standard

rather they should be seen as ridiculous things we should be eager to move past

I played on a Jazz bass for a little while and I thought the neck was kinda thin, so I might be fine.

Yes, but that's what practice is for.
As for the latter part, that is my other reason to get a 5-string.

Thank you lads, you've been most helpful today.

Attached: best_k-on.jpg (1500x2241, 540K)

ridiculous comment. upright bass has had 4 strings for centuries, long before american rock music.
don't pretend you know better than a thousand years of classical music because "muh b string chugg"

I'd believe you had a real opinion instead of a forced meme if you were a real weeb and could at least name the girls you post instead of an edgy sperg using random anime pictures for attention.

>tried the gibson meme
>thought it was hot garbage
>tried the tube amp meme
>distortion is slightly better so now distortion pedals are useless
>cleans are inferior

>>cleans are inferior
garbage tube then

Actually, upright basses weren't standardised for the longest time. In France they mostly had 3 strings, 4 strings was common, but also more. Especially since the upright bass is an amalgamation between the violin family and the gamba family of instruments. The instrument it is closely related to is actually a bass instrument with 6 strings, sometimes fretted with gut frets, etc. The tuning also wasn't standardised and neither was the fingerboard length. Classical musicians nowadays have 3 octaves+ at their disposal per string when they go up to thumb position.

So yeah, don't talk shit about a subject you have no clue about.

Not to mention that on many orchestral basses you will find a C-extension, or sometimes even a B-extension on the lowest string. Which literally serves the same purpose as the low B string. And, you know, 5 string upright basses are a thing. Either with an additional high string for soloists or with, who would have thought, a low B string.

Attached: Screenshot_20190428-155233_Twitter.jpg (258x258, 39K)

Why is your guitar tuned down half a step and why would you use a capo to play a g chord? Just tune your guitar to E-standard, I understand why your teacher is annoyed and/or confused.

4-string has less range. That's it. I don't know why people don't just use some sort of shifted tuning where they buy a 5-string pack & drop the G. It'd be so modern.

The cleans are worse on every tube amp I've played except for some old box labeled fender that had barely any gain and would probably need three tube screamers to sound even a little metal.

Most genres don't need that kind of range, and you will have to deal with playing an unnecessarily big neck as a result.

It sounds better when I play with the nicer tension. I like loosened flatwounds of a heavy gauge. My teacher is 14 so he's kind of dumb but his older sis hits on me.

Not him, but a lot of people tune a half step down. You use the cape to bring it up to E.

If you're testing this with a metal guitar, roll your volume knob back a little. You're probably using high-output pups.
My Schecter sounds distorted through every clean channel I try, tube or SS. If I plug my old Kapa in, it's crystal. The difference is the output range of the pups.

I was doing that and using coil splitting.

SS amps just have cleaner cleans.

>can't play guitar, gets teacher
>ignores teacher
you're going far, lad.

^^^^^^^^^^^

Yo for funsies I like to mix up my guit output & amp pre's & my different gain stages until I can get the resonant frequencies to be lyrical to my ears. I mean, sure there is a type of patterned thought that would have played out different than what you're asking, but in short, clean is a rather difficult term to define when you are using high-out pups.

Keep in mind, the guitar is the passive component. The boosts employed do this to create that tube saturation. Think old school first.

In the end I have an acoustic guitar for cleans, don't really use cleans anyways, and the fewer pedals I have the happier I am.

Try it. Take out all your pedals exception for shit like reverb. Heaven.

I use my thumb for barres like Clapton and Hendrix

Seems to me they're more of a boomer dad rock status symbol instrument.

Leading anime girls such as Yui Hirasawa and Ran Mitake agree that only Gibson can make a guitar to their exacting standards.

You don't have a worse guitar than an anime girl, do you?

No. I own a guitar made by Gibson, the most legendary, iconic and high quality guitar manufacturer.

Now youre asking the right questions. Look it up its interesting.

I actively dislike anime and its target audience

Help me choose a pickguard for a bass vi.

Wow got to say that was pretty interesting. wish I had the money to afford a 60's strat.

This might be the wrong site for you buddy.
I at least watch a little anime and sometimes this board is too weeb for me.

Its pretty cool to see what they made work with what little they had. I found it most interesting that some custome one off fender colors were actually just regular fender finishes lacking a step or more in the finishing process like under coats and such. And some even had complete sunburts under solid colors. I would like a 60s multi color fender body very much. I dont even care what style body

While i dislike incel weebs as a whole i actually watch and enjoy anime. But it consuming your life is retarded

Anime's target audience is 90% stressed out salarymen who want to relax and completely ignore their wives after work, 10% teenagers and virgins so repressed and desperate they see a picture like this and treat it like it's porn.

You're tinting nitro? I wouldn't want to mess with spraying that stuff in the first place. There are other great finishes.

mud buckers

>the chord is difficult to play
That's why you practice. There's no point in paying a teacher if you don't want to learn, you play stuff that's difficjlt for you so that it becomes easy.

Not him but with an organic vapor half mask and proper ventilation it's safe enough.

I'm sure it's fine, especially if you're only spraying ten or less guitars in your lifetime.

It's the extra set up materials, nitro sucks with cold, and there are simple finishes.

I'm just not into spraying 20 coats and sanding and buffing over 6 weeks for one instrument. zimnicki.com/applying-the-lacquer-finish/

Is it just me or does the New Gibson lineup cost more than the older ones?
I got a brand new studio for 1600 a year ago, 2018 sg jr. Used to cost 1100 but these 50s and 60s standard Les Pauls cost as much as later year Customs

Nitro is the easiest to repair, though. And those 2 week idiots are more about mojo than anything.

Im gonna spray a reranch rattle can over a scuffed squier sunburst finish. Dont worry its for a squier vi imma get soon.

Hendrix was exalted to the skies by an "oh-so-countercultural" clique that yearned for their hippy saviour, regardless of his actual musical ability. In fact, they were fascinated by shocking noisy tricks and stage gimmicks that he borrowed from free jazz avant-gardists of the time, not by his compositions or musicmanship. Hendrix the myth filled a niche of an anti-establishment ideal in belief system of your average dope head of the early 70's. Hendrix the man was a decent pop musician at his best, with a natural talent for improvisation and a distinctive flair for showmanship. Don't tell me about Hendrix's " guitar innovations", nobody gives a damn about fuzz pedals and feedback in our time, nobody copies his "technique" (or rather his deliberate disregard of any consistent technique). Advanced chord shapes/voicing? But jazz players did them in a more convincing and complex manner. Plus, he didn't even accomplish most of what he said he will because he died.
All the idolatry didn't go unnoticed by wheeler-dealers of the music industry. And voila - they tell us we've got to worship black Apollo with a (Strat®) guitar now. They teamed up with old rock journalists to make guitar-playing teenagers' lives miserable. The kids are obliged and conditioned to enjoy a "profoundness" of his rusty blues-rock anthems and silly ballads as if they were a religious revelation.

Attached: 1526790877979.jpg (747x1869, 244K)

Why do you insist on posting this in every thread?

I just like showing off my Parker. It's an original one too, before Washburn bought them out from Ken Parker himself. :3

>The goober himself
Ken makes archtops now but they're crazy expensive. There's a lot of guitars he made while "Parker guitars" was his thing that I wished I owned, like the acoustics.

Guitar sommeliers universally agree that the 1980s were the gayest decade in music.

Who is your favorite Beatle and why?

Attached: 1528275265984.jpg (1088x960, 439K)

>the 1980s were the gayest decade in music.
This is proven true by the 1980s HIV epidemic

Ringo
He liked to sign things, but then he changed his mind and said if you send me stuff to be signed it'd all be tossed in the bin
Thomas The Tank Engine

Alright, I found a nice allen set my les paul came with. I didn't get any with my fenders, but gibsons work just fine

0/10

Ringo had the best personality and was moe as fuck. No homo.
The Beatles needed a total of one (1) retakes in the entire history of their recording career as a direct result of a Ringo Starr error.
The early Beatles would always record "the Ringo song" when there was only a few minutes left paid for in the studio, because they knew he'd always nail the vocal take on the first try.

>i gotta get a stay trem and mastery bridge
nah you don't have to, the only problem with jazzmasters are the saddles because the strings can pop out of the grooves pretty easily, just replace them with mustang saddles if you have that problem
the other thing is a buzzstop but it changes the tone
if you got a set one will probably work, it's kinda shit that there isn't a universal size, even my jazzmaster and tele use different sizes...

For being a glorified guitar gear general very few of you post gear and most of you who do either have one squier or five

Attached: G6199B_xl.jpg (765x1530, 92K)

Aesthetic.

Because if we post our gear we get shit like

I've never gotten that. You know why? Because I post mine once in a blue moon instead of constantly attention-whoring.

The reason I asked is because I added a mustang bridge to my jazz, except it was too low
Now that ive adjusted it with the Allen wrench it plays like a dream, earlier everything above the 12th fret was dead
Id totally recommend getting a genuine mustang bridge off reverb

Ringo also practically created the Big Beat rythym/sound as heard in tomorrow never knows and used by Prodidy and Chemical Bros etc decades later

I'm not attention whoring. It's a guitar thread. I post guitars. I guess if it's not shitposting about kaka or putting down Brazalins or posting how GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH!, then it's not welcomed here.

Mandatory drinking sessions are true, though.

You'd be so much more welcomed if you bought a Gibson. Then your pictures would be good enough.

Sorry, I don't care for headless guitars.

I have a squier and a half.

Attached: mediocre.jpg (4032x3024, 2.46M)

I think you should practice in standard. Yeah it's harder to play but eventually it be easier. It's always a cascade of practice. Issues with your G chord today, issues with the G scale next week.

you can get a lot of nice amps for about $500 used and realistically speaking you only need a handful of effects pedals in your entire life

>boost, OD, fuzz, or distortion, depending on your amp and style, maybe two out of these (some may be made useless by amp channel switching)
>reverb, delay, chorus (but one pedal can do all three and layer them, and some of these may be built into your amp)
>noise gate, depending on your equipment or if you just really hate sustain trails (may be built into some amps)

I've done the majority of my learning and performing on a 5-string, as it was simply the highest quality bass I had when I started. As a general rule I feel a lot more comfortable on it even with the extra string, but going back and forth between 5 and 4-string isn't too difficult. The one thing that gets tricky is plucking position/technique on the low E string without a B string to rest or pivot from. Personally, I'd go with a 5-string if you have the means- you'll have the B string if you want to use it, but you don't have to either. Better to have than have not.

Here you go friend. Not pictured is my PRS Cu24 SE

gotta say boys, my guitar playing days may be over for a long time. I damaged a nerve in my spinal cord from a freak accident and I've lost most of my dexterity and grip in my left arm/hand. trying to fret notes is very hard and doing bends is literally impossible. to tell you the truth I've been dying for a reason to give up this shitty addicting hobby for years. maybe i'll start devoting time to reading or something

Why not just go digital nowadays?

because amp sims dont sound like real amps and drum samples dont sound like real drums. it sounds fake. im working on making a demo useing BIAS FX 2 and programmed drums, if I ever got to the point where I was going to make studio albums or If i joined/started a band I sould use amps and acoustic drums and I would laugh at any producer wanting to use samples and sims as would most people.

because for the price of digital audio equipment that sounds like the shit it mimics with equally low latency i could buy a fucking crate of tiny orange amp heads

seriously have you seen the price of rack effects and GOOD modelers? it's high end tube amp territory, and they charge that because it sounds like a high end tube amp. and they can get away with it because the people buying it are legit pros who play through PA systems, not 1x12 cabs on computer desks, and they buy it for reliability and flexibility, not to flex on the internet about being futuristic.

Where's the 7?

>Why not just go digital nowadays?
>muh Kemper/Axe FX
no thanks I'd better buy a decent tube combo, a couple of pedals and a guitar for that price

Attached: image.jpg (227x350, 17K)

My Jag, yo.
A Johnny Marr specifically.
Apparently they were rushed out back when I bought this one in 2014, so the nitro finishes weren't cured properly..
I've literally flaked bits of the finish off by just placing a sweaty hand on the body and having portions of it peel off with my clammy hand.

Still a great guitar though.

Attached: 20190430_060928.jpg (4032x3024, 3.1M)

It's a hex key you want. Just try it.

Looks pretty good, to be fair.

i'm looking for a £100 acoustic /gg/
did some research and the fender 125 seems decent, is there anything I should know before I buy it?

Break out the capo or an alternate tuning.

Open my beer for me, willya?

>Fender Nitro
Enjoy your dusting of nitro on top of your plastic coat.

talk me out of buying a fender malibu bros

That peeling finish would irk me to no end

Post Malone at Norman's Rare Guitars 1964 Gibson SG Standard
youtube.com/watch?v=m6YTge3JxiI

you need that money for something else, neither of us knows what that is, but you need to save money for it

well no I saved up money for my first acoustic guitar, the one I have right now is a shitty hand me down
the malibu is probably too small and I shouldn't value aesthetics so highly but man are these new california guitars aesthetic

Attached: Fender_Redondo_CE_elektrisch-akoestische_westerngitaar_naturel_front.jpg (450x450, 31K)

If we're talking aesthetics, Fender headstocks in acoustics always looks wrong to me. Despite that, straight string paths begins the nut are a better design.

Yamaha

Thump thump. You hear that? Thats me playing straight eighths on the low E string on my bass. G note. Bet youve never heard something like this before.

yamaha what?

Not him, but I have an APX-700II, it's pretty damn comfy to play.

too expensive ;__;
you guys think the fender redondo would be alright for a beginner?

Attached: preview.jpg (1200x1200, 106K)

500III then? CPX if you want a thicc body. It's not quite as good, but it's a decent guitar. Why are you bothering with a brand known for its electric guitars and not its acoustics by the way?

I just googled top budget guitars, found the fender 125 then found these california ones which i'm smitten with

if they suck though i'll get something else up to £300

Dominican bro?

Attached: 650_antony-santos13.jpg (390x470, 94K)

Why the fuck do everyone think you're a spic just because you own an APX?
No. I'm not a spic. No, I don't play booty shake samba shite.

lmao that wear is so contrived, you know you tried really hard to chip it, don't even front little nigga.

Dominicans love that series of guitar. Also keep the racism in /pol/.

Keep your stereotypes elsewhere, faggot.

I'm thinking about getting the J Mascis JM and giving the body a red metallic red finish because I don't like gold on white. Would this look good to you?

Attached: 71hymKeVebL._SL1500_.jpg (1500x495, 57K)

hoe don't do it
that's the most aesthetic colour way outside of pure mustard yellow

Why not just change the pickguard?

I think the pickguard looks fine I'm just not a fan of white bodies tbqh

OK, then why not just get a regular JM in another color?

useless fuck

old thread

I really like the J Mascis JM and it's very cost efficient for it's quality compared to other Squiers

>It's another "Let's put an extra cut in an Explorer and call it a new shape!" Japanese guitar.

It was oirignally dean's thing

Speaking of, for all of Japan's inventions have they ever bothered to make an original guitar shape or are they pretty deep into just copying western culture since the guitar was never their instrument anyways

bought one of the new fender acoustics and hated it. sold it, bought an epiphone hummingbird. SO MUCH BETTER. Do not buy a fender acoustic.

I'm sure they've made their share of unique shit for the visual kei genre.
But production models? Nope. It's pretty much stuck at refining what the west invented.

Now keep in mind, it's very nice refining.

he's also jewish by the way so he's about as far away from aryan as you can get. when the only two people in this general who own deans are a poverty stricken mexican day laborer and a crippled welfare queen who can't play for shit you get a pretty clear idea of why you probably want to invest in a good guitar instead

sorry was meant for

But he has Jewish ancestry.

Would anyone happen to know how what guitar and what type of pedals I might need to use to achieve this sound? One of the best songs I’ve ever heard, personally speaking, and I’d really like to recreate that sound when I switch to an electric guitar

I know exactly what you need but I'm conflicted about telling you what it is because this hipster shit sucks and I feel like if I help you then there'd be one more shitty song like this out in the either and there's enough shit music to have to sift through as it is.

What will you give me to make it worth my while?

Technically that's an offset

no its not. the waist is even

Attached: 1556644179508.jpg (330x800, 40K)

All of them, but use this instead of delay.

what about the apx600? should I get the 500 or pay a bit extra for the upgrade?

Attached: CPX600_black_a_0001-768x1925.jpg (768x1925, 107K)

It's not

And the popularity of offsets has to do with the uneven waist cut making room for a girl's tits if it's played with the guitar resting on the right leg. Yes, really. Originally the idea was it was for jazz guys who leaned way the fuck over but it found a new home.

600 is the new and cheaper 500 I think.

redpill me on archtops

wew
but on a similar note, how do I stop leaning so damn much when I play sitting? its so damn comfortable with my Jag but I imagine it's not good for my spine

Ain't it the truth

Dean melded a V with an Explorer

They cut a notch out of an Explorer.
That's really all they did.

No, because the bottom leg is longer

Attached: 1532698915033.jpg (445x626, 151K)

Well, I was thinking of the random star bullshit that was posted in this thread, not that dimebag gimp guitar.

Dean doesn't make a star like that though. They made that one-off for Trey or whoever, but that's it.

This. The "star" shape is Eddie's mutilated Destroyer put into production. This is where the design came from, a half-assed chopped up asian Gibson Explorer copy.

It's just shitty Gibson knock off garbage.

Attached: striped_destroyer.jpg (204x451, 12K)

I didn't realize that was a Destroyer.

Yeah, originally repainted white made out of Korina according to Eddie and played all the rhythm parts on the first VH record.

Funny story: he says it ruined to tone of the guitar when he took the chunk out from behind the bridge. He said he thought he had damaged the pickup somehow because the sound difference was so extreme. He said he took it to Seymour Duncan and asked him to fix it and Seymour told him nothing was wrong with the pickup, that the area around the bridge needed to be replaced (hopefully with the same chunk Eddie had taken off).

But when he got back home he realized he had already thrown it in the trash and it was gone.

Attached: white_destroyer.jpg (523x609, 40K)

Cocaine is a helluva drug.

The left cant meme

Meh. Tom Morello says the same thing happened when he had his "arm the homeless" guitar routed for a Floyd. He said "that must have been where all the tone was because it sucked it right out" and that the guitar was completely ruined but he couldn't afford another one at the time so he made due with it.

But he and Eddie had music to write & shows to play, no one would really expect /gg/ to understand.

Attached: f0b88d58f9f182cdba5e86cdead24b36.jpg (1080x720, 131K)

Would anyone notice over his effect wankery anyway?

Are you set on a steel string? They're for fags. Check out classical guitar instead.

If you're really looking to fag it up then go for a yamaha instead.

Hes obviously a shit player that resorts to smoke and mirror gimmicks

Yamaha makes classical guitars too tho

its an S2, im only semi cheap. got it for $1230

based

it really depends on what style of music you're playing as most genres don't require a 5th string most of the time but having a 5 string is more efficient in getting across the fret board rather than having to go all the way down the neck to get to lower notes. If you are planning on getting a 5 string because you want the lower extended range without having to down tune it often, but keep in mind that the muting techniques on a 5 string bass are different than a 4 string bass and you're just gonna have to get used to that over time and practice it deliberately.

Naw, I was just hoping to make some experimental doom metal or a folk album sorta like bibio. Call it hipster indie shit if you want, but I feel like the tone of the guitar has high potential. Help a brotha out.

Just got a 7 string, what songs should I learn on it, I can do This Mortal Coil and Heartwork by Carcass and a few Devin Townsend/SYL songs but that's about it. I'm not necessarily looking for super basic stuff, but I definitely ain't no John Petrucci

So is gibson gonna give us a choice in necks? I keep hearing they all have slim taper, but its so flat it hurts my hand on the model I own

Epiphone? Its not the same slim taper as that shit. Gibson profile is different. If not just buy a 50s version, its way comfier anyway

I have a Gibson 2018 studio LP tobacco burst with mahogany slim taper neck, its so fucking flat
I really hope the new ones arent like that, i thought the original 50s and 60s were more baseball bat

I love mine, wish i had money to buy a Keith Merrow MK2.

New thread

Oh ok, yea a lot of guys like that neck for some reason. Not for me either, makes it too much like an SG. I like the 50s profile on the Traditional or older Standard models. Pic related shows the difference which is quite noticeable when you play each one

I got the Omen extreme 7 about a month ago and holy shit it's one of the nicest I've had

You can get tons of guitar tones with that black switching machine.

You get tons of effects with a pedal board.

I have that one too, i love it, and is more beautiful then what i expected.

I own this exact guitar, except the right-hand model.
It's weird, I'm a lefty but I've never even tried a left-handed axe before.
