To be fair, I do kind of agree with the guy but that's only because of my own subjective opinion. Music has never made me feel as much as a book or movie has. But that's because I know much less about music than I know about literature or film.

You are allowed to enjoy whatever you want. If you enjoy a book more than an album that's your own opinion, and you deserve respect for that. But to actually believe that a form of art is better than another one, because you enjoy one of them more, is simply stupid and holds no ground. The guy is a special snowflake, he thinks he's better than anyone. He's probably underage, and has probably understood that he made a stupid argument. And it's fine, I've made my fair share of retarded arguments too. But now he's trapped by his ego to hold the argument, and that's bad.

True music is cerebral in nature, but most people look down on music that doesn’t offer any of the above. Most people don’t use music as a tool for self-improvement. The other arts are almost exclusively used for that.

I'm an electrical engineer and i can tell you that no art is ever going to make you better at your job or social life. To improve at life you have to work, learn and talk to a lot of people. No short story or novel or album or movie or tv-series or anime is going to improve your life. They all offer some sort of escape from life, and they are really bad if you are a procrastinator. Music isn't any better then literature, and literature isn't better then music. Stop with this nonsense.

I didn't say that, kinda, obviously if you are a painter the only way to improve is by learning more about art. And if you play an instrument, that's obviously a good thing, and you could hold a great conversation if you know a lot about cinema music books ect. I was referring more to the stuff that you enjoy on a more personal level. Stuff that you know they won't make you better at your job or social life, but you still do them because you enjoy them too much. That's what most people use art for, including me.
