>pop music is shit, I prefer rock music
There are only three genres of music: art music, pop music and traditional folk music. Rock music is a subgenre of pop music.
Pop music is shit, I prefer rock music
I don't understand what point you're trying to make, friend
This thread is a subgenre of your mom, because it sucks :^)
the fuck are you talking about?
B-B- B - B- BASED !!!
True.
Retards.
pop music and folk are basically the same thing, except pop is post-globalist folk
Not exactly true; folk is orally transmitted and usually has no author, pop music has clear authors is recorded and digitally distributed, but other than that you're not that far off.
You could theoretically construct a fourth genre of functional music that's separate from traditional folk. Let's say you can make a song that will drive away insects. Then farmers play the song around their farms. It's not popular, since it's not made to be appealing, it's not art, because it's used practically, and it's not traditional folk because it's not passed down in culture like a tradition.
>le all sound = music meme
Guess what. The sound of your asshole sharting isn't music. Now have 4 assholes sharting in prearranged counterpoint, then we'll talk.
There is only one type of music: vibration
Don't make anymore threads here.
>cis-moll
it's 2019, get with the times
Also
>implying art serves no practical purpose
Dafuq. Have you ever even been to a concert, or been dancing, or seen how much money movie studios make? Entertainment is a practical purpose.
they built the pyramids with that shit or something i heard.
the ancient sumerians invented some fucking flute techno that could levitate bedrock and allowed polygon masonry
Yeah I think this is true I saw it on TV
Folk is a modern day retrospective classification of the popular music of the past. When a folk music composition is first written, the community in which it is written is aware of who the composers are, but this information is lost over time. The availability of recording and digital distribution in say the 11th century would have helped preserve authorship and supplement oral transmission. Again, I reiterate, pop music IS folk music composed after the advent of recording technology.
Art music isn't a genre, pseud faggot
It literally is and refers to one of three types of music classification, you fucking brainlet
Not OP but there's art music (which means classical music), and then there's everything else (folk pop, which are the same thing, and rock is just a subgenre of folk/pop).
One tradition requires academic training and years of studying compositional theory. The other tradition requires you to strum three chords on a guitar, make a few mouse clicks to make le wacky noises, and sing slightly off-pitch like the impoverished subhumans that you are.
No. Pop music is not a genre. It's a style. It's when you try to reach the widest possible audience by making your music as easy to listen and to digest as possible, with emphasis on a catchy chorus, lots of hooks and simple themes (usually generic lyrics about love).
...or cocaine).
you can truly love cocaine.

I agree with this, but is there any kind of overlap between art and traditional music?
