Look man, you won't catch me saying static age isn't fantastic. I own it on vinyl. But I don't think one album can compete with an entire catalogue of fantastic albums. Jane doe alone gives it stiff competition in my books as while static age does have a ton of charm and catchiness, there are a few songs on there I'm not nuts about like "We are 138," whereas for me Jane doe is probably as close to flawless the whole way through as an album can get for me, and All we love we leave behind is not far behind in terms of quality in my books.

Hugely debatable, metal was ALWAYS about trying to out-heavy one another, since Black Sabbath who more or less invented metal by literally having the sole goal of one-upping Zeppelin in terms of heaviness. Extreme metal is more or less the logical conclusion of the direction metal had been moving in and yes, it happened paralled too punk and some would say in competition with punk, and yes there was some crossover, it's pretty easy to delineate punk and metal. Furthermore punk having influence on extreme metal does not mean Converge in any way is an extreme metal band, kek. They literally have fucking hardcore breakdowns all over their songs.
