this is real neat. the production is great. very mysterious i like how it shatters and rebuilds almost seamlessly

this is nice for what it is. very minimal which can be cool but the only way for it to get pulled off in a singer/songwriter setting like you've built for yourself are more interesting lyrics which only come in sparks on this track. your singing style sounds too bored as well. put a little more tangible emotion in your voice, dont be afraid to really feel it man. the song is good it just needs something more.

honest question, how do you guys write music that doesn't sound derivative of your favorite artists?

I write music that's 100% derivative of my favourite artists but people just don't notice.

You gotta just make lots of music, early on you need to be pumping out at least a song a day if not more.
You'll sound like your inspirations at 1st, but after a while you'll slowly start moving into your space.

At 1st you'll be a shitty copy of another artist
And then you'll find little things or sounds in your songs that you really like
You'll build on those ideas
Build songs around those ideas, and you'll find new things within those songs that sound interesting
After a while of building off of your new found ideas you'll eventually not sound like your favourite band almost at all.
Take me for example , my favourite band is Sleep. does my music sound like them? nope.
