I can tell a lot of thought has been put in and it's by no means a bad list, I just disagree on the fundamental philosophy. It's a bit cluttered and disproportionate. (Spending one row on Impressionist and Futurist modern classical but 2 rows yet spending two rows on southern rap, the majority of which is probably pretty bad.) I think having a list of "essential listening" is fundamentally impossible and is always going to be flawed. Some more flawed than others. A lot of questionable album choices and repeats. Just because an album births or helps refine a genre doesn't mean it's worth listening to. And the list of genres is pretty reductionist as well. You can't get rid of personal bias, but you can try to be objective and make a better list formed on less objective ideas of "essential".
i got Freetekno
spiraltribe berlin 1994
>2 rows of souther rap
>outkast not even mentioned
wow
good post-punk album, for me it's a 7/10
yeah that too. So many fucking things not covered. I also got 1100, Various - Sounds From Silence - Recent Discoveries in Ancient Near Eastern Music (1800 BC - 1400 BC) so that's pretty based. Sounds like a fucking snore.
Good idea

Rolling a third time, because somehow the second roll was harder to find than the first.
I'm not paying for apple music just to listen to shitty korean bell ringing and and damn well not paying 38$ for a siberian drum baning album on amazon.

Pretty good, though I'm not familiar with taiko stuff. Probably wouldn't listen to it again on its own, but it would make for great background music while doing menial shit that requires concentration or studying.

>I just disagree on the fundamental philosophy
Understandable. That's not the same as calling it illogical though.
>It's a bit cluttered and disproportionate.
>Spending one row on Impressionist and Futurist modern classical but 2 rows yet spending two rows on southern rap, the majority of which is probably pretty bad.
The reasoning was by giving the following genres a hundred spots each: european classical, jazz, rhythm & blues and hip hop, rock, electronic dance, and experimental and other and non-music. I think we can agree this is a reasonable way to categorize the chart.
>I think having a list of "essential listening" is fundamentally impossible and is always going to be flawed. Some more flawed than others.
Of course, but how would you make it less flawed?
>A lot of questionable album choices and repeats
Such as?
>Just because an album births or helps refine a genre doesn't mean it's worth listening to.
It definitely is. To understand a genre you must first understand its roots.
>And the list of genres is pretty reductionist as well.
How come?
>You can't get rid of personal bias
Of course, but that's why I'm using a relatively objective system of inclusion, so that my own bias doesn't get in the way.
>but you can try to be objective and make a better list formed on less objective ideas of "essential".
Aren't you contradicting yourself here? Making a more objective list by focusing on less objective ideas?
They almost made it to the chart, but the hip hop section in general is a bit odd because the genres on there work a bit different from othes.
>So many fucking things not covered.
Such as?
>Sounds like a fucking snore.
It's still a pretty important recording.
roll
maybe you just have shit taste
roll
Oh, OP, by the way, you should Google "XXXX mod 1111" instead of "XXXX mod 1099", since there are 1111 recordings in the chart.
well great now that can of bees album i listened to is redundant
lol
Stick with it, user, it's just that by doing "XXXX mod 1099" you won't get the prehistoric and ancient recordings in the roll, plus the Thai Elephant Orchestra album. It's pretty minor anyways.
