My blues-punk album demo is done. I'm just not good at drums, and my drumkit sounds like shit. Where do I go from here? I've been playing in cover bands for a decade. I have a couple drummers sorta interested in playing, but nobody with the gumption and energy to try to take this all the way, as far as we can.
Do I buy a better drum kit (I have a good job, it's not an issue), and re-record everything with a better kit, then try to get a record to sign off on me, and use that as leverage to get a drummer. Or do I hit the fucking grind of finding the right drummer I click with who has the excitement for going somewhere like I do, before having a good sounding product? I've been playing the cover circuit since I was 15. I'm coming up on 25. It's do or die time. I'm ready to invest time and money and at least try dropping an album, maybe get on the heatseekers at least, and burn all my PTO for a tour.
For context, it's a blues punk album, that takes inspiration from all the blues-rock style greats, but brings in influence like the Clash, Sex Pistols, 68, etc. Song structures are punk-heavy in nature, with blues leads. Granted, there's some more ballady jams on the album.
One of the key components I want is a stage show that gets extremely violent on the heavier songs - chucking floor toms across the stage, tear down mic stands, throw down on the floor singing and playing, etc.
