I love how there are different scenes and subgenres, even within the goth culture, which is already an offshoot of punk lol

How do you guys separate a goth band from a post-punk band? Is it just aesthetics?

personally i don't get stressed over catagorizing it

Musically? I think of it as darker, moodier, more atmospheric post punk. It may feature more synths, more reverb, dreamier guitars, or a slower pace than your average post-punk.
Aesthetically? If it sounds like the description above, and features gothic imagery, references to classic horror films and literature, or features macabre themes.
Culturally? If goth people like it.
