Man, I don't get it. I remember being an angsty/depressed teenager back in the late 90s/early 2000s was fucking awful. And most of this music only serves to remind me of how shitty it truly was. I was just a lethargic mess of low emotions until I started getting into stuff like power violence, hardcore punk, hip hop...
life didn't turn out THAT great, but I think if I had kept with that path, it would've turned out even worse. Still single in my early 30s, and shit... but at least I had some good times in my later teens-mid 20s.
I guess some people have a way different perception on all this stuff.
Nah I kind of agree, Korn specifically was basically the soundtrack to some of the worst/most self loathing times of my life. In general I tend to prefer upbeat stuff and have much more of an 80's fetish despite being born in '89, still have nostalgia for the 90s/00s angstcore shit though.
not saying it's not angsty and all of that, but it was still a period filled with growing pains and it's sometimes fun to look back, also meant more in the sense of a grandiose collection of reputed artists
first person you quoted by the way
>I tend to prefer upbeat stuff and have much more of an 80's fetish despite being born in '89
Kinda similarly, I went through a phase where I was obsessed with 80s hardcore and new wave myself (born in '87). Then got into 2nd wave ska, kbd punk, prog, shred metal, EDM... been all over the place but I think punk will always have a special place for me. I became a lot less edgy and more fun to be around of when I started getting more into it.
I look back and just get sad and just wish I could go back in time and slap myself into taking shit less seriously. Hell even that music... if I hadn't taken it as seriously as I did back then, I probably wouldn't have been so miserable.
It's sad that the official ost is missing a bunch of really great songs that are in the movie...
>official ost
yeah I'm kinda drunk
Yeah my usual taste is more in sort of the lineage of 70s rock and metal. Hard rock, glam rock, glam metal, speed metal, thrash, NWOBHM, power metal....basically all high energy fist pumping music. Bands like Korn just captured inner turmoil and teen angst so perfectly though and I still dig into it from time to time for a little of that catharsis.
