Depends on the type of Punk. Ramones are the pure essence of punk. The Clash (London Calling to be specific) is if you want a more down to earth punk album, and leans more towards rock than punk. Dead Kennedy's are if you want some hardcore and a bit of anarchy. At least that's my take.

Ramones are pretty good but they kind of bore me after a while, I honestly prefer some of their stuff after they got older and started getting weirded/more commercial. I think I like the first Teenage Head album more but some of those songs are pretty drawn out, Ramones usually didn't have that problem. Screeching Weasel were probably my favorite punk band in high school and they would never have move past their hardcore phase if it weren't for those 2 bands. The 3rd Dictators album is pretty good too, but a lot of people put them in with The Stooges and MC5.

Los Angeles had some of the best, X, fear, black flag, the weirdos, germs etc.. DC was pretty good too, bad brains slay, minor threat is straight edge so there gay.. New york is also on point... Dont even get me started on the UK.
