Why like Satie when you have Debussy, Ravel, and even Milhaud?

Scott Ross's recordings are good. If you don't like harpsichord I think Marcelle Meyer's are good on the piano. Pygmalion and the acte de ballets tend be excellent all the way through, but you could just go chronologically. Christie's recordings are excellent.

I'm conflicted on Wagner. On one had he certainly was talented at writing music that was, for lack of a better term, epic and adventurous, but so many of his pieces have sections that feel completely extraneous and incredibly sloppy in the middle. They don't sound like typical expansions either

wagner is just a decadent beethoven

>Nazis liked Wagner= Wagner good music.

Imo

Not true and your opinion is invalid.

I like Satie, but I don't understand why he called his own stuff 'furniture music'. That just makes me think of the soundtrack for The Sims 1.

The actual NPC opinion is
>Nazis liked Wagner= Wagner bad music
Actual musicians like Wagner

This is such a tedious meme. I don't understand why NPC's have such as fascination to bring up the fact that Wagner was popular with Nazi's. All of the classic German-Austrian composers were popular in Nazi Germany. Beethoven (especially), Mozart, Bach, Haydn, Brahms, etc, etc, all had a high level of promotion and popularity of performance at that time period and location. And if you're going to try single out Wagner for his racial comments, you might want to remember that basically everyone in the past had similar views to varying degrees. Chopin was probably one of the most racist composers ever and everyone loves him, so I don't get the hype that Wagner is so special.

The truth is, regardless of what Uncle Adolf thought, Wagner's music is bad.

>chopin was one of the most racist composers ever
What?

Because a known officer that worked at a concentration camp always whistled while walking down the line to inspect the jews.
i can't remember the name now.

Austrian were always considered ethnic Germans. The distancing of Austria from German has little to do with culture or history, and everything to do with the sins of Germany.

it's called slablands and it was hall of the mountain king

They're kind of on opposite ends of the spectrum. I prefer Mengelberg because I think his huge liberties with the score usually paid off, and he was by far the most virtuosic conductor of his day. That being said Toscanini has plenty of stuff he's great at. His Otello is still the best on record in my opinion.

Straight from wikipedia, which cites an interview in the Financial Times as its source. But it sounds too good to be true. Even if it is not true, it is well conceived.

Teachers and different standards
The time of pianists like Lhevinne that practiced a piece for 10 years before performing it in public was no longer. To be an interational pianist you had to have an extremely wide repertoire and straight laced piano banging was favored by critics and audiences alike in the post-WW2 era

what about that link is classical

It has an organ and brass

hes not wrong

it's ironic because nietzsche is the epitome of a disease-causing cultural figure

Someone recommend me a classical music album from this year pls

They sound NOTHING alike

Schiff released a Schubert recording and it's really good.

This always gets so few replies because it is a very problematic question
I asked this to a conductor and he said he liked the recording of Giulini

Is your first name Richard?

So wait a sec, why can't people recommend me contemporary classical music? I don't want re-recordings of previous works, i just want contemporary music albums.

>contemporary classical music?
because shit doesn't exist you retarded fuck
>i just want contemporary music albums
go to any other general for that

because classical music is dead what dont you get?

Because most don't bother with listening to that. The few compositions I've heard from the 21th century are, well, shit, except for like two. I don't even have a very refined taste so I'm pretty sure that most around here would probably think those two things I liked are shit as well.

How do we revive classical music??

The only way to revive classical music is by making good classical music.

WW3

>classical
by travelling to the1750s I guess

This would probably help desu. Hopefully, it will happen soon.

Because I'm the last composer

Hi Berio.

noo pls, no more HORRORS OF WAR music. It should be from a whimpering fall of society followed by another eventual renaissance.

one copy of Karol Syzmanowski violin concertos 1 and 2 please

Very well

There are also these:

as well as a bunch more that aren't on the Wikipedia page

Why does it need reviving? there's a perfectly healthy scene at the moment. Classical concerts are regularly packed out where I live, and we see premieres and recordings of new works all the time.

>208 IQ and having Mozart as fave composer

Attached: brainlettttt.jpg (800x450, 44K)

Because he wants "new stuff" like he's talking about rock music or some such shit. nevermind the fact that what has already been written is both of such quality and absurd quantity that there's enough to go around for everyone until the heat death of the universe

Sibelius

Handel

I really don't like Schoenberg's book. He starts talking about phrases and sentences and peppers in little things about the harmony and whatnot. It feels like its all over the place.

are you reading fundamentals of musical composition? if so, his harmony book is a million times worse

>He starts talking about phrases and sentences and peppers in little things about the harmony and whatnot.
But that's the bit of the book which is actually good. The rest is just the hysterical ramblings of an overly dogmatic superstitious old jew.

Question

If classical music is done and people no longer make them, why do you make these threads?

to talk about how fucking good it is.

wow, you must be one of them geniuses huh

Question:

what the fuck does that even mean

Would this classify as /classical/?

youtu.be/muMQnrHLYRw

>OST
no

But I thought Schoenberg's book was like the gold standard composition treatise. What should I read instead?

What's the point of doing threads about music that is no longer created?

I would get bored of discussing Mozart, Bach, Bizet work.

Read it; those two are idiots. Though I wouldn't call it the "gold standard" either. Might also want to check out Paul Hindemith's Craft Of Musical Composition.

Shitposting

>What's the point of doing threads about music that is no longer created?
This is the most retarde thing I've ever read. Might as well destroy the pyramids, burn all books on ancient Egypt and forget about the whole deal since they're not making fucking pyramids anymore: Fucking idiotic

Study the score of Both WTC books, the preludes teaches you how to write catchy melodies and the fugues teaches you counterpoint

There's over like 2000 names I could list

How do you "study a score" what does taht even mean

List em

That's what I read first but I retained very little since my IQ is below 150.

Attached: 1555781572630.jpg (708x480, 38K)

Try reading it more than once, maybe? People have gotten really retarded here as of late.

dude, how many individual chord species and subspecies does he distinguish? Its in the ballpark of several dozen.

Look at the score, try to sing it, try to play it on the keyboard, find patterns
But mostly just look at the score

>Tfw you're a pleb and don't know many classical composers, only know a few ones

>Tfw classical music is no longer composed anymore

well, get to know more, you fucking idiot
>>Tfw classical music is no longer composed anymore
so?

Which are the essential composers? Don't mention Tchaikovsky, Wolfgang or the mainstream ones

Also it's sad that classical music is no longer composed because I love it

>it's sad that classical music is no longer composed because I love it
You'll never listen to all that's been composed and is also worthwhile in all of your life. To you, it's like the common practice period never ended. You can't name more than a handful of composers (and don't want to listen to "the mainstream ones") and yet bemoan the death of an entire era of music that you ignore. You're either a troll or a fucking moron and I don't feel like helping either anymore.

Benjamin

>You'll never listen to all that's been composed and is also worthwhile in all of your life.

Why do you say this?

Because it's true?

>Don't mention Tchaikovsky, Wolfgang or the mainstream ones
But those are the essential ones.

don't feed the troll
