Winter, my wife put me onto it
She's a good musician, however she has always been a terrible lyricist and her music suffered from it. Boys for Pele would be great were not for its insufferable "subversive" lyrical content.
I know. I wish she was more subtle if anything.
shut up you massive faggot
my mom is absolutely in love with her and has pictures of her hung around the house, kinda weird
i really like the 'waitress' song but i'm only just getting introduced. i know lisa germano and juliana hatfield a lot better
not weird at all, that means she is a real fan.
I couldn't pick a favorite but Under the Pink, Boys for Pele, and Choirgirl are all top tier. I can't stand anything she's done after Scarlet though
I always loved poring over her lyrics
She's never been subtle with her lyrics. A song like "God" is great musically but it's striving too much to be controversial. I find it despicable. Not to mention it's not well-written. Unlike Joanna Newsom who is prolix but intelligible and witty, Tori Amos used terrible metaphors and awkward phrasing.
I still admire her for her musicianship though. As a composer I feel she is very underrated. She has always been a fantastic piano player which allowed her to be a lot more daring in her songwriting than most rock or pop artists.
this album is her masterpiece. happy phantom is my fave song youtube.com
I always thought god was supposed go be slightly cutesy/tongue in cheek mixed with a more serious sound and that was really unique at the time. I always loved those songs. Did it a lot the first few albums
no love for the crucify ep?
Tori has a lot of obsessive fans I met some pretty strange people at Tori shows. I used to be pretty obsessed lol. Got a painting of pic related and some promo material from the 90's.
Apparently she was the youngest person to get admitted to an institute. Peabody Institute with a full scholarship at 5.
they literally kicked her out for having a pleb taste in music
She was good filling the void Kate Bush left after The Red Shoes. Even her albums follow a similar route
Little Earthquakes = Kick Inside/Lionheart
Under the Pink = Never Forever
Boys for Pele = The Dreaming
From The Choirgirl = Hounds of Love (sort of)
Scarlets Walk = The Sensual World
The rest can be summed up as the worst parts of Red Shoes extendended
Her cover of the Eminem song about him killing his wife and running off with his daughter was INCREDIBLY brave
best thing about her was playing piano w/o wearing panties was p hot
bite your tongue hard

Her first album is her only good album
and by the 2000s she had completely devolved into adult contemporary
She was my 90s waifu. I can't understand why her critical status plummeted so much in the 10s. Little Earthquakes and Boys for Pele used to be considered classics.
Tori had a huge fanbase in 90's
In the Alta-Vista days she had more web pages related to her then any single topic on the entire internet. Reading a blurb about that is what made me seek out her music right after "under the Pink" was released.
I saw her perform live 4 times starting with the Dew Drop Inn Tour and every subsequent Tour up to the tour she did to promote the Choirgirl Hotel album. She was pretty great Live.
I like "Me and a Gun". I masterbate to it regularly.
Haha I had one dedicated to Tori and PJ Harvey!
It might cycle back around. Under the Pink and Boys for Pele were big cult classics for a while there. Maybe when she dies. Tbh it's probs just her current cringe status that's diminishing her past work. Same shit that's hit Madonna pretty hard. It's bordeline embarassing to admit to liking her lest someone think you might like her newer shit(the horror!) lol.
Publications just still have to leave Little Earthquakes in music canon because of it's historical value.
this, when I went to the Death to All show a few years ago, based Steve DiGiorgio was wearing a Tori Amos tank top
