Someone told me that he liked Jungle, and explained to me that it was because it was "an heavily syncopated poly-rhythmic version of Hip Hop"
I just listened to 50 minutes of Jungle music, and I didn't hear any form of polyrhythm. Can someone show me a concrete example and explain where the polyrhythm is?
I know but that's how he personally view it as far as he is concerned.
Angel Ortiz
How would you describe it?
Thomas Thompson
most of it is basically just standard hip-hop break-beats repeated with syncopation at a faster BPM. he might be referring to the interplay between the snares of the break beats and the kick drum/bass rhythms that carry the track along.
Easton Cooper
He's using words he doesn't know the meaning of. Polyrhythms are different time signatures played at the same time on top of each other. If anybody knows of some polyrhythmic jungle though that would be great.
Julian Campbell
>Polyrhythms are different time signatures played at the same time on top of each other That's called a poly-meter. A poly-rhythm is the conflict between two rhythms that plays against each others.
Hunter Cook
Well odd time signatures then because that's what happens typically.
Luke Reed
No. The most common polyrhythm in western music is triplets over duples which can happen in any time signature.
Dylan Mitchell
I never realized that's considered a conflicting rhythm
