thats just reverbered oasis, not shoegaze at all.
Is this the britpop thread?
True, in that case what would you consider an actual good shoegaze album ?
posting for new friends
is this chart for ants?
Loveless obv, LSD And The Search For God (self titled), Lesser Matters by The Radio Dept and Glitter by Pasteboard (highly recommend this one)
Retard, Oasis didnt even existed yet when this album came out
try zooming in
Where did it came from this stupid ass meme that Nowhere is britpop? It sounds different just because was before everyone was trying to sound like MBV.
Its bait, you dip
its neither bait nor a meme
They are the stone roses without the memorable songs, with the verb at 10 instead of 5. a lot of people fooled by their aesthetics
The Stone Roses where an influence, just as JAMC. Neither of those are britpop, so what is your point?
the superior shoegaze album
It sucks
>The Stone Roses are britpop
you're a certified retard. This is why burgers should never comment on European music, their brains simply cannot understand it
fight me cunt
The Stone Roses where Madchester.
This. Just become journalist coined the term back then, they were already a member of the baggy/madchester scene which was a much more widely used term at the time. FURTHERMORE Ride were notable primarily because they were one of the best live bands to ever perform, ever. I have not a single doubt of that in my mind after seeing them twice in the 90s. They never fully captured that in the studio but they came damn close and released some fantastic albums. But the real joy of them was catching their show and that seems to have been totally lost on zoomers, which is why they are so underappreciated in the shoegaze big three. Even check this out to just get a sense of how truly virtuosic they are youtube.com
the really early stuff sorta was, like elephant stone, but the majority of their output was more general britpop/british indie rock
Ride isn't even good m8.
Listen to some live bootlegs and be converted.
You're literally all wrong
Why do so many people on here shit on based Ride? They're just as good as Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine (although their lyrics are kinda bad)
they're the odd one out of the three, not up to par in terms of sonics nor songwriting. Slowdive and MBV each created a sound mimiced by thousands of bands, the same can't be said for Ride. They belong in the second tier of bands like Swervedriver and Lush.
Isnt that a good thing? No shoegaze band sounds like Ride in their shoegaze era. I actually like them a bit more than Slowdive, but that is just my opinion.
Sharing albums that I think are underrated shoegaze of the 90s. Don't see these mentioned a lot. Good variety here. Also shilling playlist as always to spread the love open.spotify.com
>not up to par in terms of sonics
Gotta disagree, as a lover of all three bands, Ride have a unique energy to their songs. Seagull for instance just sounds like the soundtrack to a thunderstorm at sea
Yeah, Ride were in a league of their own. They didn’t capture the noisy or dreamy aesthetic of MBV or Slowdive or even Lush. They had a sort of retro 60s Summer of Love feel that few other shoegaze bands had. And after Loveless came out, of course a bunch of MBV clones emerged. Heck, even after Souvlaki came out, you can hear some shoegaze bands trying to emulate Slowdive. Ride were truly unique, and I think one of the better shoegaze bands, though I have a feeling after Loveless took off, many shoegazers overlooked them for a time
this is unironically a 10
even though i thought i wouldn't find myself listening to midwest emo (i listen to nigger music) something just really clicked, there's no filler at all
the guitar i love for the calming riffs it gives out, drums are great and the vocals are whiney but in a great kind of way. it's the kind of music i would put in a soundtrack as the end credits if i ever had a movie about myself.
this
Loveless is Noisy pop, not Shoegaze.
need more energetic and noisy
youtube.com
+Ride, Swervedriver, Dino Jr
Any recs? I have only listened to their official Brixton live and I love it.
Looks good, I only know Soda Stereo and Alison's Halo and they belong to my favourites. Will check out the others too.
>try zooming
No way fag.
Pic related is better than every MBV and Slowdive song
>Whipping Boy
Great album
this
Great song, but that's going a little far.
Based.
noise pop
>no Band of Susans
>no Teenage Filmstars
shit chart
At least say it's a distorted R.E.M
Ride where obsessed on sounding "american", remember an ancient interview where they said they wanted to mix REM with Neil Young or something like that.
Luckily they never took it that far and didnt end up like Primal Scream
PA
FUCKING
TRICIAN
Does anyone know a Japanese shoegaze band that has a song that goes from pleasant J-Pop to earsplitting harsh shoegaze? I remember hearing the track in one of these threads, but I can't remember much else about it.
How can you be this stupid
Alison’s Halo is really good, feels like it could be Just For a Day b-sides
saved, thanks
recently i'm listening to Slowdive side projects like Mojave 3 and Neil's and Rachel's solo stuff
it's all folk basically but it's so fuckin good check this one:
youtube.com
Probably something by the band my dead girlfriend
sounds like something they'd do
and they don't have that big of a discography so it shouldn't take too long to listen through it and try to find it
No
pic related, it's noisy pop
coaltar of the deepers is known to bounce between genres
・・・・・・・・・ (dots) is also idol j-pop shoegaze lol
youtube.com
do you remember if it was female or male vox or both?
here's a more extensive one for japanese shoegaze if you're interested

BoS >>>>>>>>>>>>>> all post-mbv shoegaze

Hey do you want to come listen to some avant-garde music with me? I just got Frank Ocean's Blonde.
*ahem*
There are no good shoegaze albums
Ride, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel
Are these the only shoegaze bands with balls?
See the vimeo link 3 posts above to add another band to that list (btw, yes, thats Page Hamilton in his teens on guitar)
I remember it being female vocals. The shoegaze parts were nuts, bordering on harsh noise.
Vapour trail is such a cool tune
Are you the same user that posted this in last nights thread?
Dynamo doesn't deserve to be there (it's basically the south american version of Atchung Baby). If you want some good southamerican shoegaze check out La Nueva Flor and Giradioses, unfortunately during the 90s not many bands got to record and most tapes are lost/damaged. Recently an online friend made me check out the shoegaze band he had in his teens when he lived in the middle of nowehere in 1995, it's pretty decent but the sound quality in half of their recordings is crap. This one is alright.

Also, if you wanna get into BoS:
TWaTF > Love Agenda > Veil > Hope Against Hope > Here Comes Succes
All of them are 8/10s at minimum
this.
>avant-garde
Oh fuck no
Why is Isn't Anything in this? It sounds more like post-punk
That whole chart needs to be reworked
In Love with a View and My Life in Art are fantastic songs
Do you have any more recs for south american 90s shoegaze/dreampop?
Not many, I'm an argie so most stuff doesn't crossover (the snob argie meme is true). But some bands i remember or are current:
90s:
-La Nueva Flor
youtu.be
-Giradioses
youtu.be
-Mellonta Tauta
youtu.be
Where probably the most directly inspired.. Then there is:
-Flipside (by the time the recorded a demo half of the bamd left and it just sounds like Dinosaur Jr.)
-Gustavo Cerati -Amor Amarillo if you enjoy Slowdive/Bowery Electric more ambient stuff
-Juana La Loca (just JAMC rippoffs, avoid)
-LucyBell (chilean pop with hard shoegaze influences, the vocals ruin it)
Post revival:
-Asalto al Parque Zoologico
-Bosques
-Rosalux
And thats pretty much all I can come up right now. Things got really mixed here, Curve where huge and we got some utter-shit like Plum (celebrity couple duo) being hyped in the 90s and Cocteau Twins where hated by rock purists until the 00s.
You can find shoegaze influence in a lot of bands but it's always mixed with electronics dreampop and even industrial. I wouldn't call Minicomponente, Viajes and DHD (the current band that the dude I talked about in the previous post has) shoegaze, but the influence is clearly there.

Feel free to ask and hope some chilean is ITT, the have way better scene
Totally forgot about Suarez
The where more in the noise-pop/lo-fi realm. But this tune is accidental shoegaze and GOAT argie 90s indie

Ah, my two favorite posters on this website
damn thanks man, I'll get right onto checking the ones you posted. I do kinda see what you mean with the whole atchung baby thing lol.As for BoS, I do really like Veil, but I'll make sure to give Love Agenda another try. I think it was much more rockier than the others, so that's maybe why I usually come back to the other two
another Argie shoegaze lover here, i would add Doris self titled to that list, not 100% shoegaze but still, worth checking out
Oh neat, I didn't know they had an album out. Only knew one song from them back in 2016.
such point user so smart I guess Ride must be shoegaze then
its good but nowhere near that good
bait?
bout as patrician as godspeed bud
agreed
this is one of my personal favorites, over saturated to the point where my ears are happy

I wonder if there's an album coming out to support it.
>why aren't these bands on the starter flowchart
burrrn sounds pretty fucking good
haven't forgotten about me, have you boys?
I was just thinking about you today.
checked and ty for sharing
Well, it is avant-garde, purely by definition. A lot of genre mixing going on. RnB-Ambient, RnB-IDM.
For dream pop, I just got into Yo La Tengo and they're amazing
Just read the south part of your post, whoops
Great albums. Especially SouthPacific.
This "genre" is depressing. Literally the witch house of the 90s
>TWISTERELLA
I got a few Mexican shoegaze/dreampop gaze, user
Silver Rose - Sueños de Amor

I also created a shoegaze/dreampop playlist on Spotify. I update it weekly and try to include a lot of international stuff.

Leave Me All Behind has to be one of the best opening tracks of all time, it's just so massive. Definitely one of the 5 best shoegaze songs.
Pic related > Strange Free World
whats the best shoegaze to have sex to?
this
but only gay sex
I like your analogy, but I think shoegaze has some merit, there are some albums of pure emotion that have been produced and have influenced countless artists. Witch house is all fluff and no substance, but I love it anyways.
Literally this.
better than Loveless
Britpop > shoegaze
