what's up guys, i had a new idea for putting a humbucker on my acoustic.
the idea is to glue two tiny wood blocks inside the guitar and screw the pickup on them.
what do you think?
Landon Parker
Fuck off sam. Reported for ban evasion
Samuel Martin
Okay but where's the pickup signal going to go?
Connor Lewis
i'm new here, who's sam?
Liam Fisher
that's easy, i'm gonna wire it straight to the original 1/4 jack. the piezo preamp will be left with the xlr.
Justin Roberts
Is black winter good?
Benjamin Miller
>have multiple quality guitars I've upgraded to be exactly what I want >play them every day >strong desire to buy cheap shit planks to fuck with why am I like this?
Xavier Ramirez
am currently working on designing a distortion type pedal, are there any features that you guys recommend?
Jonathan Brooks
at least you still enjoy playing, don't complain
help me build a 5e3
Gavin Gray
thats totally normal, just sell them when you are finished. especially when there are oddball mods on them, thy might fetch a pretty penny
Michael Turner
i think the idea that les pauls look dated is getting to me but my les paul copy is too much modified at this point for me to sell it
Robert Young
just buy the parts on the schematic. all 1W resistors unless otherwise stated, and follow one of many yootub tutorials
i mean, building tube amps isn´t hard, it just takes time. modding and/or designing them is another story tho
i can post the schematic, but its basically the 5f1 but with silicon diodes instead of a rectifier tube and some simple value changes. never recorded with it, the mains transformer got to hot one day and set the wooden chassis on fire. lol, i stopped the flames with one of those fire blankets. the remains are still in my storage locker. protip: use a ´´good´´ transformer made for power handling to build amps, not shitty ones made for low power applications.
Asher Nguyen
should i be safe if i use a proper transformer
pls post it then, thanks in advance
Nathan Jenkins
your pic related has quite a complicated schematic desu. its all solid state and is just not on par with oldschool tweed amps
Logan Morgan
>complicated schematic It's really not
Josiah Martin
Why are you pretending you can even afford to buy the parts
Xavier Williams
fuck off
Nolan Nelson
Is the Agile AL-3200MCC the best Les Paul for under $600? How much would I have to spend to get something better?
ill go ahead, but might take a while, imma install ms paint first
Charles Hill
why did you do this
Elijah Wright
fixed a 5c1. It's barey a guitar amp. More of a phono amplifier, but in a tiny awesome tweed 6" speaker box. A true practice amp with almost zero distortion unboosted.
The 5f1s sound great online.
Not super impressed with the 5e3 schematic.
Justin Davis

Literally the opposite of reality lol. Soiboys hate Gibson because they're a conservative company.
Kevin Kelly
>Literally the opposite of reality lol. Soiboys hate Gibson because they're a conservative company.
should i drive 3 hours for a 600 dollar 72' thinline tele re-issue
Robert Watson
because i have the schematic on paper and not on computer, so i changed the fender schematic into the one i used.
Nathaniel Sanchez
16/17. After that, it's unlikely. 20 is the absolute maximum. Impossible after that.
Henry Gonzalez
can you write the components down, i cant read this shit maybe even rewrite the scheme in a dummy manner
Colton Parker
parts are actually kinda cheap, especially when building just an amp, without the cab. i originally built my first tube amp on a plank with copper nails as attachment points for the components. i think i payed about 64,50 for all the parts, but i salvaged the transformers from older appliances (dont do this please)
go on /diy/ on the /ohm/ thread and ask for help there, otherwise, you can ask for help on one of the forums for help
dude, maybe consider learning a thing or two about electronics before building an amp, especially tube amps you could search instructables for a tutorial on a simple solid state amp (ruby guitar amp) to start of with, or even a simple fuzz (bazz fuss). just start simple and build you way in to complexity
David Sanchez
I think you underestimate how poor and dumb sam actually is. Yeah one thing you dont cheap out on are transformers
Jonathan Sanders
not doing anything tomorrow been wanting to get rid of my 98' epi les paul just dont know if it'd be a wise decision
Bentley Parker
yeah driving is fun, i wish i could just drive for 3 hours tomorrow
Aaron Baker
>tfw overwhelmed by the snakeoil pedal world so I plug straight into the amp
Anthony Thomas
you're not losing anything good my friend
Elijah Brown
I like running the phaser in stereo mode with a delay behind it into one amp with phaser, chorus and reverb on another.
Gives me loads of pleasure lol.
But yea, nothing beats plugging straight into my Blackstar.
Mason Wright
Didn't get a reply and still unsure. Would anybody be able to tell me I'm right in saying the riff on the lead guitar is G#, D, C? If someone could tab it for me I'd appreciate it massively. I'm only just learning to learn by ear
How do i to achieve triplets at 260 bpm on a bass guitar? I can only maintain it for like five beats before falling behind, and it doesn't really sound like a triplet, just one note instead of three. I'm not using a pick
Owen Martinez
You gotta go back I will once he an heros
Dylan Ward
Look up tremolo for classical guitar and apply the same technique.
>Why is it that a m7 chord adds a minor seventh but a m6 chord adds a major 6th
major minor don't apply to notes it's just the major scale not chords
Ryan Robinson
What a fucking disgusting tone. Line 6 insane channel sounds better
Anthony Morris
LMAO, im using a line 6 practice amp that's literally on the insane channel. im dead serious. good catch
in reality my mic is garbage
Michael King
The second mode of a major scale (dorian) actually has a natural sixth interval in its scale, but a lot of the time the major 6th of a minor chord is just added for flavor, without much harmonic consideration (i.e. even if it's not in the key). It's written as a "minor 6th" chord. There's not actually a name for a minor chord with a minor 6th, it's just an inversion of a major 7th chord though.
Henry Ramirez
Hella compressed to hell and back with no real character perfectly defines the insane channel thats why it came to mind
Is there somewhere I can get all of the essential pedals at once for cheap? Like fuzz, delay, reverb, whatever. I don't want to spend a shitload of money and I don't want to have to pick and choose. I just want to get started.
Ian Martin
i need more pics
Liam Richardson
steal them
Andrew Ross
>I just want to get started. Start by learning what you actually need, not want
Gavin Murphy
Buy Behringer
Evan Johnson
Can't get much more, phone doesn't want to focus so close
Used to drive myself. Any reason you stick with it? It used to be better but with all the new regulations and stuff I dropped it for other work.
Asher Parker
The best reverb behringer ever made is out of production and now sells for $100+
Ice cold tone with absolute no warmth, fullness, roundness, or any other adjectives that might be associated with good music. Don't forget it also needs to sound like an old broken tape recorder.
Call it Satan's Pussy and sell it for $666.
Levi Jackson
There are no essential pedals. That's like saying "where can i get the essential guitar".
Just never spend more than $60 on one, ever. If you can only get a specific pedal for more than $60 start looking for schematics and parts lists. For example, you can copy the klon 1:1 for less than $50, old russian diodes included.
Andrew Campbell
Is there a website or app where you can input 3 or more notes on a "fretboard", and it will show you chords built around that pattern?
I got in at the end of 2015, 24 now, so I only really know the industry in its current state. But I like driving, having no coworkers and the pay is OK, I'm planning on working for a couple more years then switch to something else. Don't know what I want to do.
Matthew Garcia
Just get a multi-effects unit, and try not to let the bitter assholes of /gg/ offload their own self-loathing and frustration on to you.
Levi Foster
A lot of the more affordable ones sound pretty bad. Digital effects in general are what you pay for.
Kind of like solid state amps. You can, in theory, BTFO tubefags with amazing tone everyone will love. But it definitely won't be cheaper.
Blake Clark
It sounds like this guy is just starting out and wants to play with effects, not record and perform. I think a cheaper unit would serve the purpose and give him an idea of what he wants to further invest in.
Aaron Cooper
It sounds more like he just wants a bunch of pedals to step on
Colton Powell
I've never heard a multi-fx unit that didn't sound like complete dogshit tho. Most guitarists who have them throw all their money at a nice guitar then have nothing left over for decent analog effects.
Adam Bell
Digitech RP80
Thank me later.
Jace Hill
>This makes the true student of the instrument recoil in disgust. How truly offensive.
Michael Hill
The whole point of electric guitar, besides being better suited to amplification, is throwing all muh woody overtones to the wind and fucking with the timbre to take the venerable chordophone to new heights while laughing at the inferior dynamics of keyboard synth players.
Cooper Rogers
>not throwing all the overtones to the wind and only using undertones like satan intended
Buy biyang and artec, and go behringer for direct clones.

Looking to get a Fender Player Strat for psychedelic/ambient/garage rock stuff. Good choice?
Easton Moore
You're not playing guitar, you're playing with a guitar. You don't need a real strat for that.

Hudson Wright
Maybe you should have thought of it before you spent all your rubles on a Brazilian shitplank and then sanded it to fuck.

Just write one. Haskell is good for mathy shit, smashed out a tuning-agnostic chord generator with it in half an hour last year.
Austin Phillips
>Google reverse image search >"grumpy cat black metal" Scands are fucking mental.
Mason Hughes
It doesn't matter what guitar you use for those genres. The first two are drowned in effects and the third is deliberately lo-fi and utilitarian.
Jose Sanchez
I bought new nylon strings (flamenco strings) and the high e-string just won't tune. It's like high e note is way out of reach and the string will snap if I go any higher than C.
A friend told me that it usually takes a few days for the strings to "settle" but might there be anything else I'm doing wrong? All the other strings are fine.
I remember when this premiered on Norwegian afternoon TV right in the middle of the church burnings with Abbath interviewed.
Juan Gutierrez
All strings need to be stretched for properly settle. Nylons need to be almost tortured to settle. And if the string snaps, there's something wrong with the saddle, nut or how you tie them up.
Brayden Cook
Yes. The lower E from where I want to be is way off. Alright, good to know. Right now I'm basically tuning up the e-string a half step a day so I guess I'll just keep doing that then.
But is it a good guitar to get in general? I was keen on the VM 70s Strat but the neck is like a paper towel roll and the Affinity is just straight up shit.
Jason Flores
Only asking because my bassist swears by them. Not sure how effectively they translate to guitar but I've heard they can do wonders to clean up unwanted fret buzz, overtones or string noise
Jason Morales
If you are recording a riff that has no open strings in it, of course it works wonders to remove any unwanted noise. Keeping it wrapped over the nut can also remove "unwanted" vibration, but it can also dull the sound.
It's a tool like any other. It's not fucking magic.
Nicholas Jackson
I love the sound of her guitar, but it's quite a weird guitar. It looks like an acoustic, but it has nylon strings and the strings are in a hole in the head stock. What kind of guitar is it? Is it a good idea to get a similar one? I'm a beginner
>gimping yourself out of open strings because you're too shit to develop proper muting techique Do you really need to ask?
Landon Campbell
>I love the sound of her guitar >strumming an out-of-tune classical for what reason
Parker Williams
Might just be his high school crush or something
Josiah Jackson
Good point.
user, if you tell me how you came upon this video, I will tell you what type of guitar she is playing.
Robert Ramirez
I love vok and I was looking for acoustic covers lol
Isaiah Hill
he should work on his timing a little, he´s a little off in the beginning, just enough to trigger my autism
Caleb Morgan
That's a classical guitar: they're everywhere. Get one if you like the ukulele-like sound, but don't get one if you're going to be strumming most of the time.
Julian Ortiz
I don't like the sound of acoustic guitars :( Plus, nylon strings are easier on the fingers and I'm gonna use finger picking too. Is it that bad to strum on a classical guitar?
Evan Adams
i fucking hate keyboards and their players with a passion. they infringe upon the bassist to much, hog up all the mid range and complain that they can´t hear themselves in the monitor when all other musicians only hear that keyboard asshat on the monitors because he´s cranking the volume going in to the PA sorry, i had to vent my frustrations from all the jam sessions i go to. i stop playing when a keyboard player comes on stage
Daniel Foster
low volume, low harmonic overtones and not so much bass on a nylon string. not really suitable for amplification due to lots of feedback°, so playing with a cajon/drummer is a no go due to lack of volume, very little sustain, so if you plan on playing alone alot, go ahead, otherwise, buy one with steel strings
° they aren´t loud, so when a mic or piezo is attached they have to be turned way up resulting in big chance of feedback and other noise. (signal to noise ratio)
Anthony Anderson
I have no plans of playing in a band and little sustain/volume are fine. It's just I prefer the sound of nylon strings, it's warmer. I gotta go to the guitar store, I have an old classical guitar I took from the basement but the action is almost 1cm lol I couldn't figure out why I couldn't play barre chords, I thought I was unskilled. It turned out they are almost impossible to play on that guitar lol So I'm gonna try a few guitar at the store and we'll see
Caleb Russell
i bought it literally 6 years ago
Ayden Williams
>Keeping it wrapped over the nut can also remove "unwanted" vibration this is how I wanted to use it, rather than removing my ability to play open voicings. I wanted to know if anyone had used one before because its a pretty steep price for what is essentially a glorified sock.
Not what they're primarily used for unless you're an idiot or you like to tap (not mutually exclusive). Also get fucked nigga my right hand muting is on point, I bet you can't even integrate ngoni ba technique into your playing
Didn't really get any clear answers on what guitar I should get so trying again.
Looking to make Tame Impala/ambient/indie/garage stuff. I was keen on the Fender Player Strat. Would this be the right guitar for me or should I look for something else?
>vid related, the Player Strat in the exact colour I want
>Looking to make Tame Impala/ambient/indie/garage stuff
what are your current instruments and what if any musical knowledge do you have?
Carson Parker
Sounds like you should get a keyboard and a DAW. also I feel like Bass would be more important than guitar if you wanted to make music like Tame Impala not even reaching into synths and other effects that are needed.
God give me the Jaguar in those solid colours without all the kalamazoo on it
Jace Peterson
Cort M600, tuned down to C standard for Kyuss/QOTSA/metal/grungy shit.
Also I'm not sure how I'd classify my guitar knowledge/skill level. I've been playing for about 11 years, but I've only just started to play actual solos and don't have much knowledge of traditional music theory.
I can't play piano for shit tho lmao. Also I was looking at getting a bass guitar. Might just go for a Squier tho. Would the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz be any good?
Aiden Powell
But Gibson doesn't make 8 string guitars. Stupid. A boost feature. Les Paul doesn't look dated, at least not in a bad way. Quit being a faggot. Based and Redpilled!!!!! Just buy an Epiphone and save up money for good pickups. If you want it do it. Gayest thing I've seen in this general. Just get a pick you retard, worked for David Ellefson. Just buy a multi effect.
Kevin Nguyen

So, some of you should know the classic death metal riff staple of alt picked muted low string and clean note on the adjacent one. What's the deal with the technique? Do you let go of the muting each time you hit the string above? Or do you always keep your hand on the pedal string? Or do you down pick and not alt pick that? I'm lost on how and what I should practice to get that sound and riffs cleanly. youtube.com/watch?v=_QEvf3OFL0E youtube.com/watch?v=8dFQ5OxV72M That kinda stuff. Would appreciate a break down of what technique you guys apply.
Hudson Ortiz
you gonna do something about it, little man? you Dean owner? penis holder? don't reply to me
Kevin Martin
I also use string skipping. Ill post a clip hol up
Ryan Butler
Do I really need to look up strumming patterns or can humans pick up the rhythm by listening?
Thomas Bailey
Buy a roll of hook and loop fastener, use 10-15cm of it to make your own wrap.
Could you do a quick breakdown of your muting? What you do with your right and left hand. I'm having trouble with getting riffs like those clean, since my pedal string always rings out.
Jaxon Evans
You don't need to be able to play Piano to use a keyboard and a DAW, you can just layout and quantize* the notes and arrange as you see fit. Other vsts as well. Precision or Jazz bass is always a safe bet. Guitar will work well, but you might need some pedals to get the tone you are looking for.
Anthony Hughes
Up pick your muted e then down pick notes on the a string. Try it with 2 up picked open E notes and 1 down picked note on the A stting your note of choice. Take it slow at first
vocaroo.com/i/s1DgY9wtLd96 I've been at it for a while but I'm dead fucking tired after work. Is this okay as far as muting? Since I still think it sounds too unclean, but that might be tunnel vision.
Matthew Stewart
Its getting there but it wont have the wow factor until you can go faster. Also try to throw in some hammer on and pull off and try going from E string to D string as well.
Luke Bell
I just got obsessed over the fact that each note should sound separate and clean and it's driving me mad. I've been playing for a long time but never learned to play this style of riffs properly.
Samuel Ross
I would suggest removing your effects so you can hear your notes clearer. And also it would help to listen to more death metal. Lemme find you something
Lucas Diaz
Thanks for the tips, user. And I'm an avid death metal listener. Hell, I even love writing these types of riffs, but I can never play them. Obscura has ton of these thrashy pedal-point riffs. I was just never sure how to break them down and practice the picking and muting properly.
Kevin Morgan
Rip off 1920s/30s Black Folk Blues Artists and call it "American Primitivism
Get inside your pentatonic hugbox. Don't leave. Ever.

Jesus Christ, that's the most pathetic thing I've seen in years.
Thomas Diaz
All blacks did was add drums when they ripped off american folk songs.
All white people did was make the drums so fast that staying on tempo was irrelevant and start playing the guitar like a giant plucked violin and call it metal.
Asher Barnes
Wow, this whole thing just kept rolling without me.

it would be cool if they made ornamented guitars with genuine artistic intent instead of basing them off some neckbeard's TV show about incest

he has his blooz leads down good. He even had a metal project going at one point that was promising. Last duel he even proved he could play all genres proficiently
He keeps a much lower profile these days, but yes, he still posts. He goes anonymous so you can't filter him.
He's honesty one of the least intelligent people I've encountered on the internet. Lives with his parents in a Brazilian favela, barebacks trannie prostitutes so he has to take HIV meds, and works in a pet shop for $1.35 an hour. I am literally not joking, I don't know why he tells us this stuff.
He plays out-of-time blues licks on several seriously low-quality Brazilian guitars that he has irreversibly damaged by attempting to modify.
Carson Brown
Dont forget he got beat up by his neighbor for being too loud.
Camden Lee
Anybody got any tips for playing interesting solo guitar? The problem is it's hard to have enough bass and highs in the tone to make it sound balanced. Is the best option just to make the bass a loop instead of trying to have enough lows in your tone for it to sound good without a bass player? or should I mess with my MXR octave pedal? I'm playing with just me on guitar and a drummer, so I'm trying to find a way for the guitar to tone to be beefy enough to substitute a bass player without sacrificing too much thanks
Evan Torres
