How did she make it so big with such unremarkable talent, looks and personality? Her success is still unmatched today.

Yet she's been overwhelmingly hated since the start of her career. Is being hated nationwide a good career move since she was still being talked about and any publicity = good publicity?

hmmmmmmm.. pusy?

The ol' "wow boundary pushing brave queen" when she's actually mediocre at best, but usually just downright annoying.

her voice is pretty decent and she used to be hot
that's pretty much it

Sex sells

le tranny face

Back in the day she had a decent sense of zeitgeist (Material Girl is annoying, but it captured that era really well) and also is a genius at marketing/self-promotion.

In one of those Playboy reissues of her pictures she said she loved all the men she porked to get to where she was.

She only looked somewhat hot during the first 5 years of her career. There were much hotter women with better voices that didn't last.

She only got that kind of praise later in her career. So many of her antics were expected to be career-suicide during the 80's, like burning crosses or her softcore porn book, yet the success grew with the hate.

Why didn't it work as well for others, though? She wasn't even conventionally sexy. It came off more vulgar than sexy.

She wasn't loved by critics because of songs like Material Girl, which had a message they didn't like because it promoted narcissism and capitalism rather than the idealistic "reach out and save starving African people" thing that was popular back then.

I guess this is the best answer. She knew how to market herself. Still luck played a part I think, so much could've gone wrong.

>Why didn't it work as well for others, though? She wasn't even conventionally sexy. It came off more vulgar than sexy.

None of her contemporaries in the mainstream had the balls to try the things she did. She truly did push the boundaries and the 80's demographic at the time just lapped it up. Vogue was probably the fist "lace covered tits" to ever appear on U.S. Network Television ( Friday Night Videos on NBC.) Her videos were pure fap material at the time before the internet.

The Jews were heavily pushing Italians before they started doing it with blacks.

her first album is actually killer, it has like 3 or 4 bangers.

Name another Italian the Jews were pushing?

Gaga

Madonna is the greatest pop singer of all time. Like A Prayer is the greatest pop song of all time.

Then there's Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Beautiful Stranger, Papa Don't Preach and Into The Groove which are also brilliant.

Yet again, another of the all time greats being panned by this zoomer infested board. Go listen to your shitty Billie Eilish.

Gaga was 2 decades later.

There were a lot of Italians in Hollywood in the 70s and 80s. Pacino, De Niro, Coppola, De Palma, Travolta, Stallone, Scorsese.

WHASSAMATTER YOU, HEY!

As she got older, she forgot how her own formula worked and somehow thought she should compete with Britney et al even though they were plastic manufactured corporate pop music.

Yeah, even the people who didn't like her were paying attention to see what she'd do next.

And it was tired when others followed what she did so it didn't have the same impact. I kinda like how she was constantly making people angry, kinda sad how laughable she became after entering her midlife crisis during the late 00's.

She looked good in that video, btw.

Actors yes. Can't think of many singers.

shes ugly

she's hot af u gay?

Yeah, eveything started to go downhill after she started tying to compete with the younger generation's popstars. I mean, where is even Britney nowadays, or Justin Timberlake?

She rose to fame at the same time as Cyndi Lauper. My money was on Lauper to make it big and for Madonna to be a flash-in-the-pan fad. Boy, was I wrong!

Why was it Madonna instead?

She did nudes. She wasn't afraid to show nip or pussy if conditions warranted. That's a big deal, apparently. She DID have some GOOD songs. Live To Tell holds up. She was also VERY OUTSPOKEN. She knew how to command attention. Cyndi Lauper, on the other hand, was hanging around pro-wrestlers at the time, which was not helping people to take her seriously.

>Youtube comment section copypaste

You couldn't sound more like a boomer if you tried.

yea she is but what does have to do with madonna

Yeah, I watched an old interview of cindy and she cannot articulate herself very well. Madonna on the other hand oozed condifence when she spoke. Also she didn't evolve and adapt as well as Madonna, I think. I don't know much about her.

This was the first time I saw a Madonna performance. I saw it when it originally aired.

Cyndi Lauper for comparison.

OPPS. realized I posted Madonna twice.
Here is Cyndi

OK. HERE IS CYNDI
youtube.com/watch?v=NYINQgbZGdU

Cyndi Lauper was a gimmick artist whose gimmick ran out in one album and unlike Madonna she was very bland and family-safe.

I wouldn't say Cyndi was family Friendly
"She Bop" is after all about female masturbation.

Thinking about all the people Madonna out-lived in the industry (and real life), like Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Whitney, Mariah, Britney and so on.

Well if you watched the video with Dick Clark
Her answer to his final question was that She
"Wanted to Rule the World"

Her wanting to be the center of attention all the time must be in a way related to losing her mother at such a young age. Otherwise such a busy career would burn you out fast.

Are you autistic? Madonna was sexy as fuck and had star appeal. Sure, they tried to play her off as a teenybopper at first despite already being in her mid-20's, but everyone knew her wave was gonna be big.

She didn't follow trends. She created them.

It also helps that a young David Fincher directed those videos.

Can't Stop The Feeling was everywhere a couple of years ago.

Most of those were producers' puppets who didn't write their own material or were related to somebody important in the industry.

She was a young slut.

Who embraced a it and therefore commercialized it. No one could sell controversy, sex, outrage and indecency marketed as art as well as Madonna

>Justin Timberlake
Bad example, he's still huge. Probably the only whitey still allowed in modern R&B

She was a little after my time but I read somewhere that Madonna has a high IQ. Like 156, something like that. I grew up where everyone hated her yet somehow she was still popular because her music was so dang catchy. Being a shock jock just worked back then. Nowadays you can't shock people unless you're a pedo.

Clueless fucking zoomers.

Actually listen to the fucking albums. None of you have. Madonna's talent has been consistently working with the best song writing and production teams in pop music for the 80s (and part of the 90s thanks to William Orbit). Compare the full instrumentation on her 80s albums compared to the DAW derived horseshit that RedOne put out for Gaga.

Madonna released more listenable and memorable singles in her first 10 years than Britney, Gaga, Taytay, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Arianna combined. Their output has been completely overshadowed by Madonna's producers and she has remained relevant for longer than half of these despite them all starting later.

Just listen to Like a Prayer. Actually fucking listen to it. That song is worth more than all of the careers of the aforementioned wretched jew sucking whores put together. Such a triumph of ensemble instrumentation and seamless pop structure, it's revelatory in every sense and pisses so fucking hard all over the steaming liquid dog shit that other pop stars have come up with, it isn't even funny.

Like a Prayer is the fucking Concorde moment of pop music, never to be bettered and always to cast its shadow over any other jew sucking whore that dares to challenge Madonna's throne. But telling this to the mongoloid zoomers of Yea Forums is very much casting the roses before swine, so don't worry, I'll just assume you return listening to the latest vacuous slut du jour like Eilish, and wank yourselves into a grave without ever having appreciated the crest of pop music.

Madonna S/T, Like a Prayer, Ray of Light, and Confessions on a Dancefloor are all solid 8 or 9 out of 10s.

I'm 25 and I agree Madonna is better just wish she would have an album on the level of confessions again

Erotica has good moments

Se was going to do black face for hard candy and name it the black Madonna for her urban album I think not doing this was the biggest mistake in her career and not wearing the terror bride outfit

We are really letting this thread die just because we had a few kind posts and a post about black face???????

She's a who're and old

I'll buy her new album I'm sure.
( I always end up buying her albums)

I’d really like to see her go off on Roger Waters.

She sucks and I don't know why people pretend she was a crazy genius. She was like David Bowie except she never actually innovated and just copied what the underground was doing

She's a running joke now. 60 years old and acts like she's still 19.

She (and the people she associated with) had a talent for taking the newer music trends that haven't exploded yet and repackaging them as radio-friendly pop. She also had a clear talent for visual spectacle and that became more significant in the 80's than it was before.

After all she is the archetype for the modern female superstar. They are all modeled after Madonna.

She's admirable for her longevity and the fact that she's never shown weakness. She's never publicly struggled with anything really, which is sort of freakish for an artist of her stature. She's essentially a cyborg. Maybe she's not a genius, but she is calculated and made the conscious decision to play dumb. Sucking on a cherry red sucker and squeaking on tracks like "Material Girl," and the impressively stupid "Music" -- it was all very performative and tongue-in-cheek.

Who's given a shit about Justin Timberlake since Bush was president?

Really. I don't think anyone except 10 year old girls ever actually took Britney seriously.

Cyndi Lauper always blamed her lack of success on the industry short-changing her because she was already 30 when she broke, although that didn't harm Debbie Harry and to me comes off as an excuse for her limited talent.

Jesus Christ this board is beyond saving. You teenagers really need to learn to read. Pick up a fucking book. So many uninformed opinions stated as fact. You people don't know shit about Madonna or the history of music at all. Even broad history. You all speak as if any of your feeble-minded opinions count toward anything of worth. Please.

Yea Forums isn't that well-versed in Madonna or anything really that isn't white dudes with guitars.

It didn't work with Britney no matter how trashy she was because you couldn't disguise the manipulation from above.

True Blue [Sire, 1986]
Critics flock to her uneven product the way liberal arts magnas flock to investment banking--so desperate are they to connect to a zeitgeist that has nothing to do with them that they decide a little glamour and the right numbers add up to meaningful work, or at least "fun." I'm not saying her flair is pleasureless--the generosity she demands in the inexhaustible "Open Your Heart" is a two-way street and then some. But she doesn't speak for the ordinary teenaged stiff any more than Reagan speaks for union members (that's called "selling to," folks). And while the antiabortion content of "Papa Don't Preach" isn't unequivocal, and wouldn't make the song bad by definition if it were, the ambiguity is a cop-out rather than an open door (or heart), which is bad. In a time of collective self-deception, we don't need another snow job. B

Agreed.

If you can't appreciate the pop value of "Music makes the people come together, yeah," you're missing the point. It's not irony, it's just: sometimes thing that are stupid are actually smart.

Imagine being a gay nazi lol

I guess she was kind of a feminist symbol for Generation X and confused a lot of people because it was reverse feminism, the message that "I as a woman find liberation in having sex and shopping at the mall."

Saw a column written by Cuckgau's thot wife about Madonna where she says (paraphrasing) "I don't understand how Madonna is considered a feminist icon. I'm too old to get it!"

Also this guy was dumb enough to think Cyndi Lauper would stick around more than 5 minutes.

The “big 80’s”. Before internet. The right agent, record company, promotional package. Bigger market share. People bought her “product”.

Based poptimist boomer

She was clever, slept with the right people, and used her studio connections to get herself established.

Those nudes of hers were kinda gross. She didn't even want to do them, but her boyfriend at the time talked her into it. Years later Playboy got ahold of the pics and published them, which she was not very happy about.

>I kinda like how she was constantly making people angry, kinda sad how laughable she became after entering her midlife crisis during the late 00's.
It was more like after Britney came out that she did that, although by that point she forgot her own schtick and assumed that manufactured pop stars were a rival.

"Hung Up" was a massive hit in 2005 while the singles off Britney's 2003 album didn't chart as high, and she was now pregnant and off the pop radar.

guys her self-titled debut album is great front to back

easily would be 8.6 on today's p4k scale

This has the best version of Like a Prayer

Ray of Light and Confessions are absolutely perfection, 10/10 albums.

Them, also Bedtime Stories
