being validated for a short time won't make you a better musician and won't make your art have a lasting impact unless you end up creating music that is actually worthwhile. Would you rather be taken seriously as an artist or have your sex appeal used as a tool for attention?
Part of the problem is that relative to the norm the bar for being a good and interesting artist is pretty high. There are loads of talented people out there who never gain any attention. In fact there are gaggles of beautiful intelligent talented women who are putting there face out there and will never gain more than a small amount of attention because of the quantity of women just like them.
So it just depends on what you prefer. Personally I would rather leave my image out of the equation. (ignoring the fact that I'm ugly) I would feel like my art had a more genuine higher quality impact despite being much smaller if its reception were based on the end product alone rather than the image of me that accompanied it.
