I am trying really, really hard to like music, but I just don't like it that much. I try to listen to albums, but I always get bored and disinterested about halfway through. It seems like such an awesome thing to be into, but I just don't like most music that much. Pop is gay, country is for poor people, metal is super cringy, classical/jazz is too heady, rap is zoomer trash, rock is insipid, international music sounds weird, etc.
Music for this feel?
I am trying really, really hard to like music, but I just don't like it that much. I try to listen to albums...

Check out the top 50 daily list on spotify... at least this way even if you don't like it you'll know what is popular. can always click skip.
or you could listen to classical and baroque
>I try to listen to albums, but I always get bored and disinterested about halfway through
listen to EPs
do you have adhd
Listen to individual tracks. You are at a level of innate interest where you need the smallest scale exposure until something scratches an itch.
you need Schoenberg in your life youtube.com
I was diagnosed with it as a kid. So I guess yeah, probably.
Fine, I guess. Not that interesting. Wouldn't listen to it again.
Only the first song was available, and if I am being honest, I don't like it very much.
I swear cartoons killed classical
This doesn't sound good to me.
why bother being alive
when getting into music I used to relisten to Yea Forumscore albums over and over until they 'clicked'. what's the best music you have heard so far?
Smoke some dudeweedlmao and all music will sound more interesting regardless of how shitty it is.
the lyrics are powerfully sexually suggestive
the analogue tonality is raw af
the bass drum pumps - the bass line and general rhythm fucking bounce
the male background singers coming in lyrically at the ends of the phrases
the hits in the break
your just a newb im guessing

I'm really confused by pop ears, its sounds like one of the greatest things ever to me

yasimika is the only album I imagine everybody on earth can enjoy
I’m in my 30s. I loved music my teens and 20s. Was super important to me. Now I couldn’t give a shit unless I’m drunk or high. You’re not alone.
Unironically
I started enjoying that album only after many listens
hows this?
Take your dang meds before listening GUSIC
i also have adhd. i guess just listen to albums while doing something else like walking or cooking or drawing or whatever. that’s what i do.
hmm, idk I always 'felt' music since being a kid, I just didn't get into it until like 17. But when I finally did it was life-changing moment.
You seem to look at everything through 'stereotype' lens. Get rid of that thinking and take art for what it is. I usually don't like hip-hop, but once in a while I listen to some new record and maybe get surprised.
Listen to something that makes you feel. Whatever that'd be. Or do drugs and listen to something, and your viewpoint on music will change 180 degrees.
he's not gonna understand jazz haha
Best music I have ever heard is far too hard to answer, so I will simplify it - my AOTY last year was Little Dark Age by MGMT. Wouldn't say it is my favorite album of all time or anything like that, but that was the album I enjoyed the most that came out last year.
it's not hard to understand if you listen to it
i know but he obviously doesn't know how to listen to anything.
Yeah, user, I don't know. I wish I was a fan, but it simply sounds bad to me.
Also listen to music in high quality and good speakers to really feel it. Use Soulseek. There's periods where music sounds amazing, and there's periods when the same music sounds 'flat' or 'plain'. If you hadn't had the former yet, listen to more music. There's definitely something that'd interest you. If pop is too 'mainstream' or whatever and you don't connect with it, try some more obscure records. Once you get tired of them, you'll actually like pop too
hey, I had a theory that psychedelic pop is the world's most widely appealing genre. anyway what would be your favourite album(s) of all time?
agree - but sharing it is not about 'understanding'
its about finding the thing that brings immediate satisfaction
dude might like shiity zappa chick korea for all I know
and theres a special circle of hell for people who cant into cannonball adderly
Not bad. Pretty fun song. Sounds a little dated though. But fun nonetheless.
maybe try Beethoven more accessible youtube.com
>old song
>sounds dated
lol
its dope tho
The most plebbish thing is to consider anything pre-1990 "old"
Music from 1700s is relatively new.
1960s is modern.
fapped to pic its good
Listened for a few minutes.
It is pleasant enough, but nothing I would seek out. I recognize it is good, but it just doesn't fully land with me. Doesn't have that pop, or staying power.
I don't think it is old, and there is a lot of music that sounds fresh from the 70s (and earlier), but something about this song just doesn't age well. Doesn't make it bad, necessarily. It was a fairly enjoyable listen.

Listened to the first one. Pretty cool. But if I am being honest, I find myself really trying to like this one. I am forcing it a little bit. It sounds nice, but it doesn't FULLY grab me, you know what I mean?
How's this shit?
It's melancholic and hyped up at the same time, I love it
youtube.com
Yeah I actually like this album a lot. I found it a bit faggy at first, but I genuinely enjoy this album.
Based. OP you should take the Handelpill
the kids love this:
it's maybe because it hasn't clicked with you yet. it's definitely not because you like enjoy it
you're a newb and you get better at listening to music by listening to more music
It's good. I like some jazz. It's really good "doing stuff" music, or just something to have on in a relaxing night. Obviously Miles Davis is one of the greats, so this is pretty sweet.
The futurama theme song
I don't have meds, and I am not looking to get hopped-up on government issued meth so I can focus.
What is the time signature of this song
youtube.com
4/4, half time feel
4/4? or 8/8 i think
oh shit we were wrong, he actually likes it (let's use this reverse psychology trick again)
There's NO WAY Op would like the RVG and Blue NOte collections from the 50s and 60s, or jazz rock fusion
(its also swung some)
Easily 4/4 lmao
youtube.com
that's a better live performance of this song i think
meant to tag you
I actually think this is a fun game, the game being like immediate quality bangers of whatever stripe/genre that nerds to princesses to autists might have to like
but honestly I need to fucking go work lol bye thanks!
I'm the same with age... Well, I still like occasional stuff but I don't get stirred by much these days... Some stuff that blew my mind in early college seems corny and trite now. I did hear some pretty sick Cumbia last month though.
OP what do you like so far? Catchy American stuff? Do you like melody? Lyrics? Chord progressions? Textures? Repetition? Traditional instruments?
here's the first catchy american song I thought of:
youtube.com
sublime frequencies has some world music with western influences, so it's less "weird"
youtube.com
hoyl fuck Sublime Frequencies is dope.
thanks
lol, take your boomer crap back to reddt.
The first two were awful. The last one was pretty slick, but feels like background music to me. Maybe that is the point. Solid nonetheless.
>Aphex Twin
>IDM in general
>background music
user... I...
Good song. Good car music. My father was/is a pretty big doors fan, so I grew up with this stuff.
No prob! Here's one of my fav tracks from same label, by a Saharan group or something
youtube.com
Listened to the first song, skipped around the rest of the album to get a feel. I like it. Good intensity, hard hitting bangers.
out of all the possible genres of music, out of the millions of songs that have ever been written, you chose to use that one. amazing.
also your name is fucking cringe.
Rock music peaked with emo prove me wrong
That swing and the extra drum hit after the 8 made me believe it was 9/8
here's the proof:
emo is the worst genre
youtube.com
you will have my name tattooed on your body before the year is out.
get some exercise and stop being dopamine starved
Not a big Smiths guy, but this song is pretty good
Wrong
Kek
Maybe I am retarded, but that particular song had such a steady grove to it that it felt like something in the background. Just first impression. Perhaps there is some greater genius to it that I am missing. The first two tracks certainly were not background tracks.
I haven't worked out in probably 7-10 years, so maybe there is some truth to this.
ok
its a fucking commercial:
steve noble when hes not playing noise with Thurston and john paul jones
You really are retarded.
OP what the fuck are you doing
>I'm trying really hard to like music
>willfully complains about every song he listens to
wh-what? What d-did I do wrong?
I have to be honest about what sounds good and what does not sound good. I wish more things sounded good to me.
we all acknowledge that you are at fault in this situation - did you like the steve noble ?
Do you have good speakers/headphones?
>classical/jazz is too heady
Then learn
>can't get into music
user I am sorry to tell you but you may be retarded...
emo is literally the last subgenre of rock that could carry it back to relevance
Take the folk pill and become truly based
Your post basically just states that you are more concerned about what other people will think than your own enjoyment. You value the perception of yourself by others over your own experiences.
Gee... I wonder why Yea Forums would gloss over that? I would not be surprised at all if this is the first post in this thread to even address this. Instead, I bet there are a bunch of recommendations
