Whatever you think it means.

it isn't HER

she is singing about bats when she is singing about the black planes, later on as she is contemplating the birds death, she sees her baby out back, the bats bring in the night. the “black airplanes” fly east, the sun sets in the west

its an interpretation of in the aeroplane over the sea done by an african american.

>she is singing about bats
Highly suspect

Probably just the first phrase that came into her mind. I wouldn’t read too much into it

>Probably just the first phrase that came into her mind
This doesn't actually matter at all, and shouldn't deter anybody from reading closely.

Hey you can do what you want. For me personally I’m not going to read too much into it. I think that’s what she’d prefer

>I think that’s what she’d prefer
Why do you think this matters?

She’s got a message and I feel like this discussion is distracting from that message.

>dried rose petals, redbrown circles
>framed your eyes and stained your knuckles
What did she mean by this?

Lmao she likes itaots

bruises

Roses are from a funeral and the circles on eyes and knuckles are from injury, implying the death might have been violent.

thanks fren, this makes sense

I always get distracted during Monkey + Bear so I never really get a handle on the story or scan the metaphor. Who likes the song and can tell me the story?

Its probably about her and a boyfriend, or just some couple but it uses the allegories of a monkey and bear couple. They are circus performers. they are overworked and underfed and hate it. the monkey wants to leave and run away but she doesn't think its right. eventually they sneak out one day and have a good time but decide they have to go back because they don't really know how to survive out there. so they go back and perform and do the usual every day monotony. over and over again every day. the bear sneaks out alone. the monkey follows her and sees her in a nearby cave, splashing in the waters. he assumes she is having a fun time bathing and playing and returns to the circus ready to pester her over it when she returns. she is actually drowing herself. spiritually she sloughs off the burden of her bear form and passes on.

I think you're missing the obvious signs that the monkey is manipulating the bear. Getting her to do the work and remain in the harsh ways of the farm. Monkey is always asking to her to keep dancing, while the monkey does nothing but collect the money. And when Bear is off in the cave, the monkey has thoughts of insulting and belittling her efforts to clean herself when she gets back. This is a classic abusive relationship where the Monkey is always telling the Bear that he loves her but insulting her as well, keeping her dependent on him.

Well, it seemed irrational, really
Washing that face;
Washing that matted and flea-bit pelt
In some sea-spit-shine —
Old kelp dripping with brine
But monkey just laughed, and he muttered
“When she comes back, Ursula will be bursting with pride —
Till I jump up!
Saying, ‘You've been rolling in muck!
Saying, ‘You smell of garbage and grime!’”

that parts obvious. i'm not a roastie so i had no reason to mention it. go back to the kitchen bitch.

These things scan pretty well for me.
The part I always tune back in for is when the monkey says "Ursula, we've got to eat something"

Gives me bad vibes from the monkey
