Wank about sequencers and such

Hey Yea Forumstants
I'm building my synth collection up and i'm looking for recommendations.
Looking at buying a Korg Volca Sampler because it seems to be extremely versatile and can more or less do everything I need (other than being extremely restrictive on sample RAM)
I'm looking for a drum sequencer now and have no clue what i'm looking for really.
Also has anyone experimented with an Omnichord through effects pedals. I have no pedals whatsoever and as much as I love my omnichord and the tone it produces, it's use is EXTREMELY limited and i'm looking to widen that.
tldr; building synth collection i am retard pls help also general synth/electronic thread

I have a Korg SQ-1 as sequencer, and I prefer AKAI made samplers over a Volca Sampler, because I'm an Android fag, plus it's easier to tweak the samples.

Reverb, chorus and distortion/fuzz are a good start. Some quirky individual addition like a bitcrusher too.

Part of me wants to get a Juno 60 but shits a bit out of my price range
What polyphonic analog synths under $500 would you guys recommend?

Waste of money.

Korg Minilogue XD
Check the YouTube demos it sounds incredible imo. But i think it's limited to 4 voice polyphony

It's actually called "XD" btw im not trolling you lol

all synths need some sort of effects on them imo, get yourself a stereo reverb/delay and a chorus for your omnichord, maybe a phaser. Even some cheapo pedals would be better than nothing

pretty sure your only option if your budget is a strict 500 is the Volca Keys or a used older Minilogue

Monologue or volca keys?

Attached: MonologueSV-large.jpg (750x606, 69K)

could maybe push up to 650-700 if that opens anything up

only real option is a used minilogue. they sound pretty good but imo 4 voices of polyphony is basically useless. better to save up for a deepmind or a prophet rev2

you should circuit bend you omni

the microbrute

>deepmind
>muh 12 voices which still sound like soulless garbage

Behringer should stick to copying other companies like Moog

that Korg he posted looks nice, I had a microbrute and it was dope, but i don't think i remember being able to feed it a sample...

Unironically this

anyone actually got it and can report if it's thin sounding hype garbage or actually good? Found a offer off a legit site for 580 bucks but was broke

Get a synth box like a Roland JP-08 or something and use a midi controller like a keystep to control it, well under $500 and you get something that isn’t one of these cheap all-in-one-but-still-limited analog synths

Deepmind 12 used

How about the Adrenalinn?

three words: OP-1

It's redditcore shit and sounds very much like a modern korg meaning thin and relatively bright. Tried it myself and I wouldn't get it.

I have a regular Minilogue and can tell you that it was an incredibly good purchase. It sounds absolutely excellent, not tinny or thin at all, is super versatile, has an incredible control interface, etc. I own a few (old, expensive) synths, but I have absolutely gotten the most enjoyment and sheer utility out of the Minilogue.

Eventually you’re gonna learn that what makes vintage synths so iconic and big reason to own is the unique sound of their filters.

Any certain reason why it has to be analog? Digital doesn't necessarily mean bad sound

Post your setup, user.

I really dig how those synths sound, really warm and organic for lack of better words.
What digital options would you recommend?

an Electribe 2s is both sampler and drum sequencer.

I was listening to it yesterday and would like to know your opinions on it

Attached: images (5).jpg (220x220, 11K)

a good analog juno alternative, same engine but more preset oriented, the jxp3

Very stable digital oscillators can be made more fun by introducing slight lfo detune drifts. The juno isn't too difficult to emulate due to how limited it is. Take two oscs with one being a saw and the second one pitched one octave lower with a square wave and use a 24db lowpass. Then introduce a chorus pedal or the built in chorus of a given synth. That usually sounds close enough. Chasing tone in synths is something I find rather pointless when you can approximate most stuff unless the unit really is a one of a kind device.

Also keep in mind that what you hear on an actual recording is mixed and processed already. The raw sound of many classic synths isn't that crazy. I had the chance to try a few of them and the only ones that really blew me away were the korg polysix and the ms20.

you dont know shit lol

First gen Analog Fours can be found around $600, used of course

I have a microbrute currently and it's more of a sound design instrument based around shaping the timbre of the 4 oscillators. You can't directly run samples through it but you can plug instruments like a guitar or organ into the input and get a sort of advanced guitar pedal scenario. The only downside is that it stops playing when you dont have a key pressed down. But can confirm if you get this you will still need a drum machine/sequencer lol

I tried that with my bass but couldn't get it to trigger, does it need a preamp inbetween? or something?

Uh I'm not sure, but what kind of amp were you using? You probably need a bass amp to get the correct tonal range just run the output of the microbrute into the input of the amp and if it starts to smoke up pour some water on it. Remember to set all your volume knobs at 0 and then you can identify the layers of feedback you're getting (where it's coming from, what's the problem) . Again, you need to hold down the key for a sound to come out and make sure you have a pretty simple, recognizable patch on your microbrute (like maybe get an lfo in there with a rate your ear is familiar with)

>when you dont have a key pressed down
So use a playing card between three keys to hold down a key for you?

yeah it was very spotty, like sound would cut in and out, i will try it with the simple patch you recommended

Anyone have a digitakt here? Really want one to make ambient and experimental based loops. Does it implement well with guitar? I want to sample my guitar playing and then maybe resample it and things like that.

definitely Deepmind 12 then

it can sound fantastic, pleb, the effects just suck

pro tip: use the sequencer to keep the gate open

Monologue has a built in sequencer which I don't think the microbrute does and has presents made by aphex twin that I'm curious about seems fun but not worth 300 I was hoping to hear some people who have it's opinion

the microcock is the best synth

I don’t really disagree but it’s basically the only halfway decent option under 1500

idk man, it sounds pretty good to me
I reckon user could just buy something else if he finds himself wanting more in the future

Microcockers in the house tonight, gearfags gonna have a bad time

Attached: korg.microkorg3x.jpg (960x541, 271K)

mks-50, but dont buy one. I dont have mine yet

I had an octatrack and hated it, then got a digitakt and didn’t really like it that much more. The workflow is okay but it’s best suited for 4/4 electronic music rather than precise sample manipulation and ambient material

Anything you would suggest in it's place?

gues what i repair synths and this GOOBER told me he cant pair for the repair of his microcock in at leastr 6 months, i guess ill record some top micrococked music in the meantime, right?

not him but this is the kino chice of the elektron patrician.

>pair
*pay

I'm not made of money my dude

i got mine for $40 my man, lurk in shady pawnshops you may hit the jackpot as i did.

i plan to make a couple hardware synths, small units but powerful sounding.

one will be the OWO
the other will be the UWU

would you buy them?

Honestly I would just use a DAW unless you wanna go full analog and start fuckin around with tape. Personally sample manipulation doesn’t benefit that much from having tactile control of whatever you’re doing. You might also want to look into max/msp - it’s pretty easy to build patches that can manipulate samples in ways DAWs can’t even touch

lol, never gets old

You bet it doesnt ;)

No, I already have a micromonsta and I am not interested in modular memeshit

not modular

>why yes i do use the volca modular
said no one ever looooooooool

And redditors were hyping that thing up to no end. I don't get the appeal of modular at all. The old greats may have done a few nice things with it but all the contemporary stuff I've seen could have been done on a normal synth or sounded like avant garbage

modular is the funko pop of the synth world

The first gen Minibrute has a Gate switch on the back that you can set to Hold to bypass the keyboard and play a note indefinitely. Does the Microbrute not have that? But yeah using a sequencer or other gate source would be the best option if not.

Opinions on this little dude?

Attached: Blofeld-large.jpg (750x348, 31K)

A lot of complaints about low output volume, but I like mine and dont personally find it too low to use

Another question because I find it difficult to estimate based on youtube demos. Is there a lot of grain in the sound? How clean can it get? The blofeld seems like a synth to me that doesn't have one massive sweet spot and that needs a bit of tinkering to tame it

>Is there a lot of grain in the sound? How clean can it get
It's not noisy, if that's what you mean, the DA isnt particularly nasty without tweaking

Has anyone got any experience with Lynnstrument?
youtube.com/watch?v=oLh6G1aLuzo
i wonder if i could control my Virus with this?
undeniably correct

>i wonder if i could control my Virus with this?
I dont see why you wouldnt be able to.

the list of supported synths is pretty slim i was wondering if anyone knows any specifics that arnt mentioned on the site. i just ask on a whim because some of the features are SLICK.
does anyone have any experience with the analogue black box compared to Kush mod Fatso compared to the Elysia Karakter - i'm in the market for one, maybe two of these devices.

Pretty comfy thread lads, keep up the good work

i started with the the pocket operators then moved up to a volcano sample. i know nothing about music or music theory but i really enjoy making fun little loops im probably only using 10 percent of what the sample can do but fuck its fun and i love it. i also love my pocket operators to make little chip tune beats with the robot and the arcade.

having a good time playing with Benjolin, what’s your setup today?

Attached: 5D51EA48-D8A6-4231-BE7A-EB3CE209B6BB.jpg (4032x3024, 2.19M)

God I hate these fucking things.... It doesn't even make any sense!

I'm trying to build a synth pedal board for my bass guitar, i'm thinking of using an octaver (play 100% wet signal with suboctave turned up for 100% actual synthesized note), run that into the chorus pedal, then into the LPF(mf-101), CV on the filter and another cv for chorus amount. Need another piece of gear for freaky shit though, thinking the freqbox, or a bitcrusher. where does it go in the chain?

>Benjolin
sweet

got one but havent built it yet, worth the time?

yeah, runglers are great. benjolin is especially fun when you have other gear you can cross-patch. been about five months now waiting to hear back from Rob about the Blippo Box I’ve ordered. in the mean time I’ve been really enjoying patching between my euro and tabletop benjolins.

Can someone explain to my what makes these things so expensive?

socialism

That made me laugh but I don't actually know what you are trying to say

maybe ask a question that makes sense?
if by "these things" you mean "synthesizers" you're basically asking about a price range from $50-5000 lol moron

your poor, maybe explains everything desu

I was under the impression that the minimum for a decent (used) synth is about $500

I'm in university and a synth seems like it'd be a fun instrument to own, unfortunately it would be unreasonable for me to spread so much on one. I guess you could call me poor

>I was under the impression that the minimum for a decent (used) synth is about $500
well congratulations on being stupid

reverb.com/marketplace/keyboards-and-synths/synths?price_max=500

Thanks for introducing me to that sight, I was looking on eBay earlier. But I have another question for you, why are you so condescension and angry? Is it because you're not satisfied with your life?

he said that user has a mangled idea of worth because socialism infected his mind making him think nice stuff should be attainable for people who doesnt deserve it.

He's a modular user. They are all like that.

you should look into diy

yeah diy methods for kys, the sooner he starts the better

there are modular posters?

yeah, theres the fag that buys anything Hainbach shows in his channel, theres some other but is more infrequent

What’s hainbach

Oh cool, I didn't realise this was an option... I could use a summer project anyways

>I hate myself but at least telling people online to kill themselves gives me a fleeting dopamine boost

How new are you that you don’t recognize gearspammer?

Reaktor can do anything /thread

Miu :DDDD

because you're dumb lmao.
seriously, how can you make it in 2019 and not be able to do basic shit like use google and research things on your own?

>modular user
>even thinking about synths under $500
nice try, i'm a poorfag thanks for asking

I googled some of the synths in this thread, with no prior knowledge. I found their prices on eBay typically exceeded $500. I assumed eBay had fair prices for used synths (this was my major mistake). I came back to this thread and posed my question.

How can you assume I'm dumb based on that? It seems to me that you're the one with problems

yeah lots of great diy out there, playing my diy rollz-5 right now :)

Attached: 5A5AA8AC-A248-4F67-A4BD-822AB104910D.jpg (4032x3024, 2.82M)

Fuuuck that looks cool. I started making music a few years ago but I've never looked into hardware. I just use pirated vsts lmao

It’s pretty awesome, a drum/drama machine from the brilliant mind of Peter Blasser. Meng Qi sells these pcb pretty cheap, but you could go super hardcore diy and build the paper circuit version! I built all of his paper circuits a couple years ago, amazing circuits.

So what kind of music do you actually make with all your stuff?

He doesn't, he just shitposts his obscure and expensive equipment on Yea Forums
There's a reason he's called Gearspammer.

Got one a few weeks ago. Nice synth for the price, but annoying that it doesnt have it's own VST to use for editing like the Virus Snow.

Look into the Blox editor if you plan on using it in a DAW.

the exposed components are bad enough, but then there's the tone caps

Don't mind me, just being a 20 voice, 8 part, 3 osc per voice, 1 arpeggiator per part, no menu diving no bullshit synth

Attached: ccs-14-0-12063500-1439321876.jpg (800x248, 35K)

I'm new to synths and have the Z3ta+2 synth that I'm enjoying a lot. Can anyone rec me some other good cheap and beginner friendly synths?

>no menu diving no bullshit synth
where's the fun in that?

Gearspammer dabbing on the poorfags again

funniest part is gearspammer doesn’t even have anything good it’s all Reddit-tier GAS shit

it’s ok user, he makes me jealous too

>tfw too uncreative to use more than one layer

>tfw no synths

What even is a synth?

Apart from very early korgs I always thought of korg as very bright plasticky especially their VAs in more recent times

because they're cheap t b h

this days off to an interesting start, looping omni through cocoquantus into the op1

upload some sound examples just showing off your gear is boring m8

shit looks insane. I wouldn't even know how to begin learning to make something like that

it’s pretty simple, read these instructions for an example of building a paper circuit. tells you pretty much everything you need to know.

ciat-lonbarde.net/paper/man/lilsid.gif

pretty simple once you get the hang of whats what, plus you’ll get better at your soldering as you go. hard part is finding the free time to do the actual building. pcb builds are even easier.
