Yes, I'm a Catholic as well, also versed in theology (more of a thomist, he's into early mysticism and neoplatonism). I was suprised by how well formed his thoughts are, not the norm for metal musicians. Have you checked out his art? He does covers for other bands, and it is always great.

Awesome production, many forgettable riffs.

I love finding albums that are true expressions from an actual outsider. There's something genuine about an artist making exactly what they intend to create.

Somewhat related, the last Sigh album. Before the release, Mirai was saying in interviews and on social media that everyone will hate it and that he only made it for himself. Lyrics are in his native Japanese for the first time. I had never listened to Sigh before, but it ended up as my favorite album of last year.

Just re-listened to 13 for the first time in a while. Fuck it's boring. The production is completely Rick Rubin fucked, Ozzy's vocals sound like shit, and every song is either a remake of an earlier Sabbath song (End of the Beggining and Black Sabbath, Zeitgeist and Planet Caravan, etc) or just mediocre stoner doom.

Raunchy and mystical, I'm digging it. It's like if Howls of Ebb were obsessed with First Wave BM.

There's been a solid wave of classic heavy/black bands that don't do anything gimmicky. Only awesome riffs and great vocals.

I like what this album is going for but I really don't enjoy listening to the music. When you can finally hear a riff through all the noise the riff isn't very interesting.

It's ugly, awe inspiring, terrifying. Not for everyone, and not something I listen to often. But once a month it really sits well with me.

Metal wasn't invented until 1982.
