Where've you been on The Flaming Lips releasing a new LP? Only just found out and grabbed it but it came out two days ago and I haven't seen one thread related to it yet. It's the fucking Flaming Lips, surprised by the silence is all.
Anyone hear it? What will I be in for?

Damn that's too bad, hope I wind up disagreeing with you. Embryonic is my easy favorite album of theirs.

More power to you if you like it. Everything FLips made post-Embryonic has been underwhelming. Except for that Ender's Game EP, for some reason that was good.

I wish people would quit saying variations of this post. People have been posting annoying "ugh these days" posts for years and years. Yea Forums right now is not very different from Yea Forums 6 years ago, just with things that were current in 2013 being replaced with things that are current now.

Building more off of texture and repetition The Terror does much more with less than Embryonic or Yoshimi because what is has is just more interesting to my ears. I prefer the production and style of psychedelia presented on that album more, there's not much more to it than that for me. I think it's a truly psychedelic album vs most of The Flaming Lips post 2000 output which is just DUDE PSYCHEDELIA LMAO

Always ignored the album for whatever reason, just had no expectations, but you made me curious enough and you're right it's pretty fucking great so far. Not that I agree with you suggesting Embryonic isn't great.

The Flaming Lips dies to me after Wayne started fucking Miley and turned into a total asshole to all his friends and bandmates.

I've been listening to the first few tracks and it does sound a little bit like rehashes of older work but song four was great

That's the one where you got 4 cds and were meant to play them all at the same time right? Dumb question maybe, but does it still sound fine as far as sounding like it was intended to when it's in a digital format? Assuming they put out a version that can be listened to as one album/cd.

Its their first record where it feels like they're treading water and leaning on an old sound. However, it's pretty solid overall. The second half in particular is really good.

I think Wayne's mid-life crises might be finally over. It doesn't feel as desperate or like it's trying too hard like Ozcy Mlody, that Beatles cover album and Miley and her Dead Petz. With King's Mouth they haven't been this warm and inviting in over a decade. Wayne's also becoming a father now so that probably gave him a new perspective on things.

Okay yeah there's some real bangers on this shit. Drozd is doing a good job with the second half of it

It sounds great digitally, but you still have to listen on four separate speakers. It’s really really cool and most of the album is pretty great. It’s really not hard to set everything up, even if you only have one other friend; if both of you just set up a laptop and phone into speakers/Bluetooth speakers it’s very doable and worth hearing

I know Wayne and Miley collaborated on an album or some tracks or something, but what asshole kind of shit has he done?
Only thing I know about him outside of the music itself is that he called Win Butler a pretentious asshole which I'm willing to assume is right on the money.

Excellent albums with Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi
Embryonic, my personal favorite, and The Terror and Peace Sword are good
Oczy Mlody is trash and the cover albums suck but The Flaming Lips deserve their notoriety
