there is literally no consensus on this, it's why he's a GOAT. unless you're gay and think murder ballads is his peak, but for me it's the good son or your funeral my trial
yeah i know there's no answer it was just to spike the discussion
what would you say is his peak in terms of musical arrangements? I sense Abbatoir Blues/Lyre Of Orpheus is overlooked when it has a lot of work put into it
I saw him live last October and he didn't play a single song off that album
Hee Haw
WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! WOF! WOOF! WOOF!
i dont get it
Where should I start with his discography?
personal favs are
firstborn is dead
the good son
abbatoir blues/lyre of orpheus
henry's dream
99% of his albums are incredibly good. the production is always amazing and each album brings something new to the table in its songwriting or themes and it's always fresh and well-done. i've never heard an album where he was phoning it in (not even nocturama or kicking against the pricks)
i know it's daunting because there's a lot of material to get into. what do you like user? i might be able to recommend a trajectory based on that
lou reed
Typewriter wrtten album > PC written album. His quote about using computers to write music is accurate to a tee.
actually i read that interview as well and it genuinely makes me wanna go out and buy a typewriter because i do feel like it might be cool to try
Start with Door, Door/
not him but also want to get into him I like
Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens, Brand New, Radiohead, Mew
Push the Sky Away, Skeleton Tree, and The Boatman's Call might be up your alley
>what would you say is his peak in terms of musical arrangements?
The Good Son has arguably some of his best vocal arrangements, especially the ballads, although I wouldn't regard that as their 'peak'. would probably have to agree with abbatoir blues as of now
he has a ton of songs for a live situation and ig they just wouldn't flow well. not to mention it wasn't as acclaimed, but I'm happy people are re-evaluating it
those are accurate choices. don't neglect TGS, i think that might appeal a lot too
>FUCK interesting music and singing, I just wanna write cool lyrics bro
yeah nah. publish a book of poems then you fucking hack
>>fuck interesting music and singing
>what is grinderman
>what is the birthday party
>what is let love in
>what is literally of his early albums
friendly reminder not to feed the trolls :)
all trash. next?
suicide, hopefully
i'm not familiar with that song, but i can already surmise that it is the usual pretentious garbage monotony nick cave drolls out
I'm a huge Tom Waits fan and I always get Nick recommended based on that, if it means anything.
I favor his NMSWP alot. His vocals on that album is insane. Oh My Lord being the highlight. It also manages to be funny despite Nick Cave's reputation as The Prince of Darkness.
Then either go for his TBP days if you like late experimental Waits or early Bad Seeds if you like bluesy Waits.
The GOOD SON
I've only honestly listened to Dig Lazarus from him. idk why but I never l never checked out anything else of his. What are the absolute best albums he's made in people's opinion?
