Man why is Black Sabbath so fucking good?
Man why is Black Sabbath so fucking good?
Because they're heavy blues rock with pop sensibilities, plus they're tuned way lower than any other rock band from that time
Idk man, they just had the sauce. Been listening to them a lot lately too. I like that they had that heavy, groovy, distorted and psychedelic sound that eventually became stoner metal but the guitar isn't ridiculously overblown and all their albums have that warm 70s rock sound
oh god
oh fuck
the answer is tony iommi is a genius
aside from the tired argument whether or not they invented metal isn't important, they mark a point in music where sub categories really start showing up & they focused more on heaviness while others took the eclectic beatles approach
I really like their earlier stuff especially too because before Paranoid blew up for them, you can really here the panic of these boys playing literally for their lives - these guys were basically born into the industrial wasteland that is Birmingham, and you can hear PANIC and frantic fury especially on their first two records of a band playing to escape a future of factory labour. Yes they eventually found success, there were acrimonious breakups, drugs, reunions, all the typical rock star bullshit, but it's so incredible to me that the genre they helped pioneer the genre of doom metal, playing heavy enough so that the listener can feel every pound of the existential terror of being born into a city where their destiny was to be worn down in dehumanizing factories and slums unless they could play hard and heavy enough to escape... and they did. God bless Sabbath man.
How Black Sabbath worked? Ozzy wrote the lyrics and the other lads wrote the music?
Most of the time their bassist wrote the lyrics actually
geezer wrote the lyrics & tony generally wrote the music, ozzy hardly contributed
Bill Ward is an underrated drummer
you must be retarded if you think vocals are hardly contributing
>no one listens to Sabbath
you must be retarded if you think singing puts you in balance with trying to come up with music & performing
spawns more doppelganger bands than zeppelin
"no one listens to Sabbath"
They aren’t
kys
>when the Children of the Grave riff kicks in
don't mind me
it does
best band of all times
that would actually be judas priest
they're up there
but that's their worst album
Because they play the blues and aren't a bunch of manchild metal babies. Because they have great ears for tunes. Because Iommi and Bill Ward know what their sound is and they mastered it and they're great at putting twists on it.
Tbh it mostly does, but Ozzy didn't write the lyrics and he was just singing the guitar riff normally
I love Sabbath, they're absolutely one of my favourite bands ever, but I've never understood the stuff surrounding Ozzy. He contributes the least to the band whilst getting the most fame, he can't sing for shit and he's been a doddery old man for about 35 years by this point.
haha kys
It's only the worst from the first 6 which are all great.
no it's not, it's better than both sabotage and sabbath bloody sabbath
>I've never understood the stuff surrounding Ozzy. He contributes the least to the band whilst getting the most fame
Because he successfully built a popular image with his solo career.
Nothing in Vol.4 comes even close to the greatness of Symptom of the Universe or Spiral Architect.
supernaut has the greatest riff ever written
his solo band was one of the best heavy metal bands ever
ok razorfist
they didn't do anything particularly amazing, just played slow rock downtuned. but it was uncharted territory at the time so yeah. they were in the right place at the right time
1. Master of Reality
2. Vol. 4
3. Paranoid
4. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
5. 13
6. Black Sabbath
7. Sabotage
8. Born Again
9. Heaven and Hell
10. Technical Ecstasy
posers leave the hall, thanks
Iommi is a god, Ozzy is great, and Dio was great.
lmao 13
I had a dream I met tony iomi in the grocery store
>carried by Tommy & Geezer
>carried by Randy
Clearly Ozzy was the most integral part of Sabbath
I love Ozzy's voice. He's not technically skilled but it is a very distinctive voice.
Maybe that's why I don't like Dio's voice. Too pompous and never fit Black Sabbath.
Ozzy made them all millionaires dickhead, one of the best frontmen ever
Ozzy might not be great but Dio is simply horrendous. All manlet theatrics and grandiloquence
13 is one of the best fanservice albums ever.
Agreed.
>obscure as fuck band back then
>release a great christian song and get away with it
Truly madlads
sabbath bloody sabbath is definitely the worst of the first 6
symptom of the universe and the writ might be my favorite sabbath songs of all time tbqh
Post your favourite Sabbath riff

Are you retarded? Paranoid topped the UK albums chart and the title track was #4 in the UK charts.
all other answers are wrong
youtu.be
I know they were mainstream you idiot. I said obscure due to their dark sound.
No you didn't, you said "obscure as fuck band back then." Obscure, in case you don't know, means "not discovered or known about." You're actually a brain damaged retard, learn how to speak english or kill yourself.
Fuck off nerd. Suck my dick.
youtube.com
just stupid heavy
It depends. Singing AND being the frontman surely balances it, which he was. I guess he came up with some vocal melodies too, which counts as "doing your instrument part".
You are not appreciating the importance of having a good frontman for a rock/metal/ any popular music/ band. You could play your ass off but without the right frontman you wont get as popular. Ozzy charisma, retardness and crazy antics does makes him a great frontman
Dio vocals are great but sabbath with dio is another thing completely. If you are into the bluesy heavy side of metal you may not like it. Classic sabbath with dio isnt good, dio sabbath songs with dio is good enough. Alsi, Dio solo > Ozzy solo.
Honestly if this album didn't have Changes or Laguna Sunrise it could've been one of their best releases. IMO songs like Wheel of Confusion, Snowblind, and Cornucopia are just as worthy of the title of doom metal trailblazers as anything on Master of Reality.
Sabotage is pretty mediocre outside of a few tracks. It's clear they were burnt out by then.
based
Retarded fucks
