Thoughts on this album? I bought this album in 2006 when I heard it playing in a record store and asked someone working there what it was.
Ever buy an album after hearing a small part of it playing in a record store? On a whim?
Also, oddly enough, this was my introduction to Sonic Youth and is still my favorite of their albums.

Prior to... whatever people use to preview music these days, this was done all the time. Sometimes I'd buy something I'd only read about. Sometimes I'd buy something because of the record label and cover art. Granted mostly I bought used cassettes and CDS then so it wasn't a huge risk but I can't say I ever regretted any of these little gambles.

I heard some of Coltrane's Live in Japan as a young teen on some quasi local college radio 3 am insomnia session. had a cassette that I rec'd misc bits with. recorded like a 35 minute song that slowly evolved into my favorite things. this is before id even heard of like Love Supreme... So I didn't know what it was . . . and it haunted my for a decade before I found the album . . .and I wouldn't exchange the experience for anything else.
