I think many people misinterpret the message of this album in comparing it to jazz music music. I think the general question with jazz is "What is the boundary to music? When does something become not music?", and while that's all fine and dandy, this album is not asking you whether it's music or not. If it isn't or is music, that's besides the point. Rather, to me, this album is specifically asking "What makes art human?" The truth is, I don't know. Nobody has ever posed this question so eloquently before. I can't tell what gives this album a soul, nor do I even really know if it has one. For everyone years ago saying that this album may be looked back on as a masterpiece for reasons they couldn't determine yet, this is my answer.
This album is a masterpiece because it poses questions rarely asked, in an extremely succinct and genius method, with such basic tools that it's actually ridiculous that it could convey so much with so little. It's easy to say that people who enjoy this album are reading too much into it; on the contrary, I think those who dismiss it with little reasoning other than "It sounds bad" are not reading into it enough. Stating that the album sounds pointless is correct, but you're not paying attention if you don't realize that it's intentionally pointless. In general I'm not a fan of experimental music because I find that too often it says nothing while being overly pretentious and self-congratulatory; This album cannot be either of these things, because it literally does not speak for itself or say anything about how it's meant to be taken. If it explicitly wanted to be dissected, it would reveal its intentions like every other experimental release - but Daft Punk is too good for that: It incites a deep interest in its intricacies entirely though its own creation.

No. Their worst album easily.

the actual music is not that good though

conceptually, yes
not fun to relisten to though

touch is kino

yea, i think get luckys a cool song since it had pharrell williams in it so this album was pretty good

it's good but I prefer homework and discovery

Extremely boring, bad production, horrible idea to work with Pharrell and Nile Rodgers. A boring funk album.

llf

Nice pop album and I like the production.

Yeah, i think it is good and unique. However, just like said, most of the tracks aren't nice to relisten. Some exceptions would be Instant Crush and Touch.

>FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT
What happened to them, Yea Forums? Where'd the fun go?

In my opinion, it's their best album. It's only uses 1 sample. So there's actual song writing on this album.

I would even say that Daft Punk only has 2 real albums. Tron legacy soundtrack and RAM because they're the only ones that don't rely or use samples.

>It's only uses 1 sample. So there's actual song writing on this album.

Stopped reading right there

>Mixed Bag: The Album

It's all over the place. It has some great songs, some awful songs, some songs that are just "ok".

Alive 2007 is their best album, Giorgio By Moroder is their best song, Discovery is for plebs.

probably boomerkino

Flawless production and many of their all time best songs, but a few duds as well. I actually think Fragments of Time is the best song on it.

like the legend of the penis

It's a FUN album. It doesn't top Homework or Discovery, but the production is top notch and it's a great Summertime album.

>Was it a good album?
Yes and it does deserves its praise imo, but its far from their best

based

>fav albums are Tron and RAM
>die

get lucky is song of the summer desu

you cannot make me read that

is this a shitpost

Discovery or die bitch

Sampling is stealing but you're a retard if you think the original songs are better than the songs Daft Punk made with samples of those songs.
Even Robot Rock utterly btfos Release the Beast by trimming the fat of the original. Crescendolls is far superior to Can You Imagine. One More Time, which they claim isn't a sample, is still leagues ahead of More Spell on You.
Plus Human After All didn't have too many direct samples either besides Robot Rock.
Those three albums >>>> the other "original" shit they did later
I don't give a fuck if they ripped people off, they improved the hell out of their songs and that's really all that matters.
Nobody would give a shit about Cola Bottle Baby today without HBFS

think imma sample this one

I never said the originals were better, only that the song writing on those albums are very bare bones since a lot of those ideas are straight up stolen samples. I couldn't in good consequence say that Discovery/Human After All/Homework is better when there's barley any actual song writing on those albums. Just on the objective fact that they didn't steal anything on RAM, makes it a better album by default.

Human after all is straight up trash though. No amount of sampling can save that repetitive mess.
>HUMAN HUMAN HUMAN HUMAN
>MAKE LOOOOVE, MAKE LOOOOVE.
>TELEVISION...RULES THE NATION
>STEAMMMMM MACHINE
>EMOTION, EMOTION, EMOTION

How many times can you repeat the same god-forsaken phrase on a song that consists of a musical idea that's around 10 seconds long.

All that aside. I personally think that Alive 2007 is probably the only album worth a damn that they made. Human after all is so bare-bones and unfinished and so are a lot of the songs off homework. Smash 2/3 songs/ideas into one and you finally get a song that sounds less like you spend 5 minutes working on it and more like you actually gave a damn.

Second best album would be Discovery than RAM. Daft Punk has such a shit discography. If you disregard RAM and think it's shit then you're left with only 2 albums that are worth a damn. The best compliment you can give Daft Punk is they got good taste in samples and are decent remixers when they aren't being lazy and rushing out an album like "Human".

do you even like music?

>doesn't like emotion
what an absolute pleb

Who IS this guy?!

Yes, very good. If I didn't love Discovery so much I'd say it could be their best. Most of the tracks are good or great, with the few duds being only "meh".

I still think it's a crime that Fragments of Time wasn't one of their singles for this album. A radio edit for Touch could've been massive too I think. Whoever decided only the two songs with Pharrell could be singles is a dumbshit. Discovery had like 5+ huge hits with less accessible music and this could have too.

I thought it was great. Felt unique and well crafted to me, and I listened to it many times.

weird to see someone actually discuss music on this board

>bad production
really??
