i found this cassette for $2 at Used Kids Records in columbus, OH yesterday when i was shopping there during record store day. i popped it in my tape deck and it's like, really poorly recorded sort of noise rock. it's completely unmarked, fabric slipcase and the shell of the actual cassette is spray painted silver. no insert or anything. does anyone have any idea what this is? i can rip it later today if anyone has any interest in it.
maybe, but it sort of seems more recent to me. used kids is like the biggest record store here so a lot of local artists/bands drop their stuff off there... a lot of their traffic are like college aged kids or people newer to the hobby, generally
Matthew Campbell
if you're lucky it might show up on shazam but I doubt it. It could also be a recording of a concert.
Christopher Rogers
i don't think it's a recording of a concert because at the very beginning of the tape there seems to be a sample of like a home movie or something? there are kids talking and stuff
judging by the artwork (looks like a limited edition tape), this one was probably released in the mid or late 00s. >poorly recorded sort of noise rock lots of bands in said years made extremely lo-fi/murkier psych noise rock, so this one was probably released on a now defunct tape label
Colton Smith
>It could also be a recording of a concert. nevermind, rewound the tape to start it over so i could figure out how loud i should rip it and it's definitely a recording of a concert, there are people cheering right before they start playing it's sounds more like post-hardcore than anything really psychedelic, like it's more akin to some 90s emo shit i think, the recording quality is just terrible.
Connor Moore
do they say the name of their band? Maybe you can decipher the lyrics and google it.
Owen Sullivan
>90s emo well now i'm intrigued, but yeah i still think the tape was released around those years
Jacob Thomas
the lyrics are mostly screamed out unintelligibly or barely audible under the instrumental. i am getting started ripping it right now. shazam'ing it does nothing
Leo Cruz
is it good? i wanna listen now
Ayden Watson
RIP IT
Zachary Johnson
thanks for ripping it
Brayden White
took a bit of finnicking with it but it's now ripping, everybody. should probably be all ready in about 45 minutes. the a-side doesn't occupy the whole thing but i'm gonna try to split the tracks up & all. no problem
alright boys, done ripping. splitting up the tracks right now
Lincoln Reed
What did you use to RIP it?
Xavier Cruz
direct line from my tape deck into audacity
Connor Young
it coming?
Jordan Hughes
yea, sorry for the delay but should be ready soon.
Cameron Jones
be ready soon
Carson Brooks
uploading it to mega now. total runtime is about 27 minutes... there are about 3 minutes i didn't include in the rip, but it's just the guy with the tape recorder walking around the venue i'm pretty sure
Elijah Jenkins

Cooper Morris
Cool thread OP. I'm waiting for the mega.
Ian Collins
Hyped to hear this. Thanks user in advance.
Ryan Robinson
at least is not baltimore, which is a complete shithole
Jesus christ even if it was (which it fucking isn't) nothing would happen until you actually open it. Download it and inspect it and you'll realize there is no problem.
OP here, here is track one on vocaroo. i had to convert it to .ogg to post it up on vocaroo, but it's not like it really matters too much given how poor the original recording is vocaroo.com/i/s12zrpavbLXd im not sure myself? i would say noise rock but i dont know how well that would fit it if it were not recorded so poorly thanks user
Ayden Martin
thank god finally a cool post on this board
Leo Rivera
I just listened to the whole thing and I'd agree it's noise rock, though it could be some depraved genre of metal, its hard to tell. There's an underlying high frequency pitch playing throughout which is realy fucking annoying as well
Henry Brown
Doldrums untitled tape from VHF records.
Adrian Harris
It really pisses me off when people pull shit like that. Yea Forums can no doubt be a cesspool a lot of times but sharing tunes like this and getting recc's is one thing that I've always admired and is what keeps me around.
Lincoln Jones
>tfw you'll never go to a show at Allie and Sherry's house
don't think this is them? i know the band you're talking about, the one that were on kranky for a bit, but i don't see that anywhere on discogs or anything. hahaha, i'm not really too surprised it happened, it's a common thing on this site in general but it would be annoying if it offput anyone from listening to it. glad someone appreciated me sharing the tape
John Richardson
is there any more information about it, OP? i'm cataloguing it on rym right now.
Eli Gutierrez
complete bullshit lol
Zachary Fisher
nope. not an insert or anything in it. it's probably from a band in columbus or released on a label from columbus given it was at used kids, but other than that, there's really nothing to go off of.
Zachary Martinez
Put it on discogs instead.
Dylan Walker
It sounds like he says at the beginning, "We're white album." I only heard the first track but it sounds more like hardcore punk to me, like a more agressive angry samoans.
Hunter Lopez
>that godspeed demo tape will never be unearthed :(
maybe. if they are called White Album, there's nothing about them online... the discogs page for the only band that comes up under that name are danish and released music on warner bros., so i doubt that's them.
Sebastian White
>"We're white album." Definitely sounds like he says that at the end of the final track
Henry Martinez
I tried looking them up, there used to be a website that cataloged tons of American punk bands but I can't remember the name. It was all html and the last time I used it was like 2006. Mostly older stuff but you never know. You could look up bands and labels by region.
Brandon Lewis
listening to it right now. sounds like it's a vhs recording that was later dubbed into a cassette tape. this probably was recorded in the mid 90s. wonder if there's a discogs entry for this one.
Hunter Ward
listening now, this is pretty cool, i think hardcore/punk is a bit description desu, although it definitely sounds like it has noise influence, not sure how much is the band noise or the recording itself, nonetheless enjoyable, thanks OP
