Boomer music is actually good though, zoomie
They legitimately don’t make indie like Built to Spill anymore, “indie” is no longer a label you give to underground alternative rock musicians but inside a label you give to twinks and art hoes playing shitty sadboy pop music with midi controllers and unhealthy amounts of reverb
yeah, this
It's such a comfy concert experience. The crowd is full of adults with steady jobs trying to hang on to those little bits of cool depth still in their lives. People in the audience dress in dark colors and only drink enough to achieve a slight buzz for about an hour. After all, it's another day, another dollar tomorrow.
>Was listening to Endtroducing recently >Through to myself, "electronic music was so much more pure back in the 90s". >Realized what I thought and felt both old and stupid.
I've been a fan of Modest Mouse and Built to Spill for a long time now but I only recently discovered this set of MM playing between Moon and Good News. Listen to this early version of Ocean Breathes Salty, the percussion and intro are godly. The crowd cheering at 10:45 gives me chills for some reason. All these MM fans getting excited about catching a very first glimpse at what the next album might hold.

i'd be more happy to hear new BtS than any other new indie rock album
It just blows my mind how many good riffs and cool little melodies they're able to cram into every nook and cranny of every song. There are some nu-indie bands I enjoy but they're so monotonous in comparison.
I guess so but each album has been worse than the last since 2001
I'm still kinda miffed that instrumental hip hop morphed into "beats to study to" and not mysterious atmospheric epics like on that album. And with such rudimentary tech too.
true, but still..
I know that feel.
Never been a big BtS fan but I marvel at the same shit every time I revisit Modest Mouse. Outside of jazz and classical, there isn't much music that loaded and layered. Nu-indie is especially anemic.
yeah, Doug is so fucking good at guitar. I always try to get my friends into them but I think his voice turns them off.
i agree that they haven't been as exciting but they still have some great jams here and there.
The production on Moon and Antarctica is incredible. There's so much shit going on at all times. It's the prime and perhaps only example of a small indie band getting picked up by a major label and making a critical masterpiece instead of selling out.
>Listening to first American Football s/t
>”Damn emo guitarists just don’t play this way anymore”
>sip my root beer
I want to say they had an inimitable earnestness of being a bunch of teenagers just fucking around writing classic songs, but my nostalgia goggles are strapped tight because of how important it was to my 14 year old self
*sips bangs*
i'm more of an oliet bangs man myself
Fucking hell BTS made me think of the gooks first.
I may be too far gone.
>root beer
can i find this in europe
>hip-hop will never divert as drastically or as willingly from the mainstream as it did 98-04.
weird shit is mainstream now homie. lots of groups around today people would've called backpacker rap back then.
still, early 2000s def jux was an absolutely based scene. something about the timbre of vast aire's voice just hooks me instantly.
That backpacker rap def jux shit is still not mainstream if anything it's worse because now it sounds dated.
one of the best albums of all time. i miss this too
any DL to this? the tumblr no longer works. i wish there was a good bootleg modest mouse website
I was referring to stuff like industrial hip hop coming back, cloud rap, and "conscious" rap being considered timely social commentary when back then people shat on it for being pretentious and holier-than-thou (which had some grain of truth considering how saving "real hip hop" was a major lyrical theme)
I agree it's dated but Blockhead for instance had some really moody beats with nice sample choices
doug martsch is just an awesome musician. I'm serious I really love a lot of his work. Check out his side bands
