only 3 real songs with about 4 riffs in between them and more than 45 minutes of ambient garbage tacked on at the end

Filosofem is probably up there, but in my opinion it's Master of Puppets or ...And Justice for All. I think they're both terribly boring records where every song is two minutes too long and they're hailed as masterpieces by first year listeners, people that haven't even gotten to Filosofem because they're filtered by harsh vocals and lo-fi production.

Nah I just don't wanna listen to the same fucking riffs over and over again. Altars Of Madness for example relies way too much on root note octave jumps and most songs are similarly structured, too. Gets boring after a while. By the time Morbid Angel learned to change it up, all their songs sounded like boring fart noises like on Covenant and Domination.

Yeah maybe I'll get used to it eventually who knows. On one of the songs he had sort of a growl that was alright, so it doesn't need to be fully clean, I just don't like the full on screech type. I'll check Bergtatt out thanks.

Haven't listened to the first two here as much so I can't say, but Ad Nauseam's not as versatile in the type of songs, structures, and chords used. Especially on the latter I feel a lot of the disomeme bands don't realize that Gorguts or DsO aren't always reaching for atonal relationships, sometimes it's standard other times it's some closer to like baroque or jazzy chords rather than straight atonal intervals.
This album bothers the shit out of me because it's all one song that has both parts that are imo 20/10 god tier and parts that are just 2/10 crap. But yeah I guess you aren't wrong in a way?
