What albums feature jazz fusion with funk / disco influence? Maybe a little bit of prog rock or new wave too, doesn't matter. You'd think that jazz and funk would be popular cross-over genres but I don't know any artists other then Herbie Handcock.

To a small extent, Random access memories. Mostly funk and disco though
Roy Ayers
Leroy Hutson
Herbie Mann
Lonnie Liston Smith
Patrice Rushen started out as jazz but eventually became a full time disco diva
Bob James
Earl Klugh
Basically go to your local neighbourhood record store that sells actual records, go to the discount jazz section, and pick literally anything
an actually worthwhile post
miles electric era is very funk influenced, no?
Listen to this guy, he posted what I was going to and more
Manuel Gottsching's E2-E4 comes to mind, especially when he starts soloing later in the track.
Oh also Donald Byrd. Donald Byrd is huge, get everything he did.
I personally dislike them, but you pretty much described Weather Report
I'm not sure he's very disco-y but Ronnie Foster is pretty funky.
Oh, also can't forget Chick Corea and Return to Forever. Contains a little of everything, specifically Where Have I Known You Before.
piggybacking in this thread, can you guys recommend me specific jazz albums?
I started getting into it and so far what I know is
>dave brubeck - time out
absolutely fsvorite jazz album so far, literally can't get enough of it and can listen to it back to back. I don't know exactly what they mixed with jazz but I'd like more of it
>coltrane, favorite things, giant steps, blue train, love supreme
I enjoy quite a bit all of these but I only REALLY like a couple tracks each record
>chet baker and miles davis
few tracks of each, I like them but i'm not much into vocals, at least not so far.
If you could recommend something as close to Brubeck's Time Out I'd appreciate, also accepting suggestions of more experimental/recent stuff
will check this out too >87061997

I hope someday I can have a friend to just sit and listen to albums and drink water with. Have a good night, user. Try full albums, even if you don't like the song I linked.
>Chick Corea - Tones For Joan's Bones
went for this sort of at random and I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks again, really appreciate it
no problem, and I'd like a friend like that too lmao.
And yes, I always go for the full album, my first will be tones for joan's bones.
Have a good one
Chick Corea is incredible, he was part of the jazzrock band Return to Forever, which is a bit less traditional sounding than the Tones album.

Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes is fantastic, especially Renaissance
I feel like you're describing Fusion.
Casiopea
Wayne Shorter
George Duke
I've been listening to quite a bit of this kinda stuff recently myself, most of it already mentioned here.
Fucking love Byrd, my introduction so several genres. Byrd in Hand, A New Perspective, Ethiopian Knights, and Places and Spaces are some good starting points I think.
this guy knows where it's at
can't ignore Herbie Hancock mid-70's-to-early-80's
Head Hunters, Thrust and Man-Child are mostly jazz-funk but then things get progressively more disco on Secrets, Sunlight, Feets Don't Fail Me Now and Monster
jazz fans mostly ignore the albums after Man-Child, but if jazz+disco is what you're looking for they could be just your jam
