Genesis had good vocals. Adrien Belew is pretty good at yelling in new wave.

only two of those are kind of progressive, the rest are lame rock bands

Why do people make baseless statements?

attention

OOOH BABE

Dont talk shit about gentle giant

Yes has good vocals though

Why is Journey on that list?

Unironically, John Wetton, Peter Gabriel, Jon Anderson, and Greg Lake are some of my favorite vocalists of all time.
Fuck off.

Lol, no.

I like them. specifically peter gabriel and peter hamill. so much emotion in their voices

How does these have ''fucking shit'' vocals?

Wetton’s voice sounds weak. Heat of the moment is catchy, but his voice doesn’t match the energy of the song. Steve Walsh, on the other hand, has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard

>not rating Phil
cringe and bluepilled

Annoying voice.

I like phil but he has more of a beautiful voice than a powerful one

Nigga please

Geddy Lee's vocals are the best pleb filter of all time

Peter Gabriel is one of my fav vocalists ever

Greg Lake and Jon Anderson are great

listen to prog outside the big groups

retarded bait thread

They are technically very skilled for the most of it. But most of them have terrible actual voices. Being able to belt out certain notes vocally is different from having an actually good voice. It's always either some nasally nerdy sounding shit or like something overly melodramatic.

some of those prog groups listed were only truly prog in the beginning and later became pop bands - like Genesis. early stuff sounds nothing like the later stuff

I want to like Gentle Giant, but it just sounds like some kind of weird medieval barbershop music. I guess I haven't spent enough time acquiring the taste.

metal vocals are way worse

Asia has a great vocal sound and isn't afflicted with what I usually assume people who complain about prog vocals are mad about. Also modern prog doesn't have the same bad vocal sound of 70's prog so I doubly don't know what you're talking about (modern prog does suck complete balls though). But the typical complaint against prog vocals I can understand is the super dry, small sound. That's just prog and the 70's rock sound in general. The drums are the same way. Pretty much all the instruments are the same way. Everything was recorded super dry and uncompressed in 70's rock. It was just the thing. It creates a ton of space and sounds very natural so if you can get into that it's beautiful, it's great for atmosphere and creating the feeling that the music is really there all around you in a real space, but it doesn't have the exaggerated, super juicy, in your face power of more pop influenced production from the 80's onward. It's a stylistic subjective thing but I get why people don't like it. Think of prog as a kind of folk or classical music rather than a kind of pop-rock music and it makes more sense.

>It creates a ton of space and sounds very natural so if you can get into that it's beautiful, it's great for atmosphere and creating the feeling that the music is really there all around you in a real space
when will this come back

It won't, not as long as the musical world is digital.

To pop/mainstream genres? Never probably. That kind of sound seems "weak", "thin", etc., in the context of other music with modern pop production. In less popular stuff it's still around though. A lot of IDM, ambient, folk, folk-prog/neo-folk, various hippie genres, has this kind of sound.

Has nothing to do with digital

Post voice or stop posting

dumb boomers

Imagine a prog band combining the virtuosism of the music / instrument skill with vocals of the level of Nico, Bjork, Jeff Buckley, Freddie Mercury, that would be the GOAT

But Jon Anderson is a great vocalist

Shut up idiot

Women are typically better singers than men.
Men are better instrumentalists and producers.
But technically bad singing can have its charm and is often more interesting than a good voice. It's hard to explain why it works sometimes.

based

Don't need good vocals when you've got 30 minute drum solos, followed by 29 minute bass solos.
