Please recommend me more complex/experimental music that isn't prog.
Please recommend me more complex/experimental music that isn't prog
HOLY SHIT
How is "Remain in Light" complex? Anyway, listen to Fela Kuti if you liked it.
It's pretty heavy on syncopation and polyrhythms. I'll check it out.
This is very pleasant
jazz
I've been listening to Pharoah Sanders a lot lately. Any actual suggestions?
What the fuck this is great
I find it amazing that people on this board still don't listen to Fela Kuti with regularity. I was obsessed with that shit when I was 18-19 years old, and constantly smoking bud.
Check out Osibissa, they are very good. It sounds like a mix of Talking Heads and Fela Kuti. Also, it's actually african music, so if authenticity is your thing, you may dig it.
Fela Kuti definitely seems right up this boards alley. I'm enjoying it thus far.
I wouldn't say authenticity is a real draw, but it certainly doesn't hurt. I'll check them out.
Which fela kuti album would you recc?
Gucci Mane is an incredible artist but nobody takes him seriously while taking the time to understand how sophisticated his music is because he himself doesn't take himself seriously
Is this Loss?
TNT, because it inverts experimentalism back into universal accesibility.
Its the musical equivilence of a fantastical optical illusion.
I always thought this was some shitty indie band.
>complex/ecperimental
"no"
based on remain in light
youtu.be
based on newsom
youtu.be
don't much like eno or television
>TNT, because it inverts experimentalism back into universal accesibility.

lol what
Fela Kuti is overrated
I think the problem is he's just releasing too much stuff and obviously most of it is filler
Ignoring the inconsistency Gucci Mane is one of my top 10 artists of the decade, based on the total amount of great tracks throughout his discography
I've never seen anybody talk about him until now so I can't say I agree
shut the fuck up
are you 16? Expensive Shit is the most talked about Afrobeat album among hipsters by far. the problem is it's usually the only Afrobeat album they've heard and it's also very mediocre
>are you 16?
>t. 16
I agree. Davido and Wizkid are far better
uh huh
Can - Tago Mago
>Def Jux
Yikes.
sorry but how is television complex or experimental in any sense?
Gentleman is his best
You all disappoint me
The drumming and guitar work isn't virtuosic, but it's pretty creative. There's a lot of impressive counterpoint as well.
>no prog
I was a pleb once too OP
you need some van der graaf generator
youtu.be
I promise you'll like it if you like art rock
This band ALWAYS makes the right choice at the right time. Based.
I said no prog because i've basically listened to it all. Down to every last obscure italian band. That's actually one of my favorite albums.
Based canposter
what about prog folk?
Breddy gud but get up with it was better and not just a coke party
gotcha I assumed you were new based on the albums you posted
you'll like Ludus, the vocals are a bit of a turnoff at first but it's proggy art punk, really great
youtu.be
Not too deep into that honestly. I like The Pentangle a lot.
I'll give it a listen when I get home
ehhh, the album's a little long but you seem to know more than me so I'll go listen to it once more
it's one of my favorite genres, it's worth getting into. I don't know much about your taste so I can't really rec you much but there's guides out there on prog archive and rym
try Stone Angel's self titled album
Most albums by Susumu Yokota fit your description-- Fitting Ray and Wonder Waltz are my personal favorites. Mulatu Astatke, like I posted earlier is my favorite Ethiopian jazz composer, but that genre in and of itself is worth exploring
I'll be sure to check that stuff out
The entire krautrock genre.
How experimental do you want to get?
>that isn't prog
lol
The name of this is The Ape of Naples by Coil, also listen to Horse Rotorvater by them
This was great. Love the timbre on that bass, drums are batshit.
Indeterminacy and futurist levels, I don't care
>mediocre
come on man its at least top 5 in fela's discog
I'd recommend Have One On Me. I don't remember it being as proggy as Ys, but it's still pretty great.
This is really neat-o
I'll give it a go.
i prefer zombie, last half of the title track makes me groove SO HARD
Based
OP listen to this user, that album is great
This
or The Dreaming
These
or The Kick Inside

I like first wave black metal, because, clearly, none of the bands give a shit, and they just throw whatever they want into their recordings, despite being talentless bastards, who couldn't play the same riff the same way twice if they wanted to.
