Start with some nice compilations like the 100 most essential pieces of classical music. Don't stick to a single composer of you're a newbie.

Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy are pretty ‘entry’ tier in terms of listening. The works of conposers vary widely so it’s difficult to narrow it down to a lost imo but here’s my recommendations
>Bach - Goldberg Variations and his fugues
>Chopin - Ballades and Mazurkas
>Beethoven - ‘Moonlight’ sonata, piano concerto no.5, ‘tempest’ sonata,
>Debussy - Anything really
and why would these be better than russians and late romantics
