Can anyone actually take them seriously outside of melodic genres?
Aside from this (admittedly large) exception of women who are going for clean vocals, I just don’t get it. Shouting, screams, guttural singing and so on simply sound ridiculous to me when a woman does it unless you literally can’t tell (e.g. extreme growling such as that in Slam Death). It’s either laughable or just plain weird, nevermind hearing some of those lyrics out of ’em. The closest analogy I can think of is seeing roided up female bodybuilders.
Yes. I've heard many female metal vocalists that I think have the best grows/screams in metal, of any vocalist regardless of sex.
Asher Roberts
I am not debating their skill, obviously there are female vocalists in Metal who can hold their own and whose technique is impeccable. I’m talking solely about the impression I have of them and the dissonance between their gender and their stage persona/vocals.
Ayden Sanchez
Well obviously not everyone has the same impression of them as you have and it's not a very interesting topic. It's stupid to think they have to be certain way (i.e not aggressive sounding as vocalists) because they're women.

Depends on what you mean by “have to”. Obviously, in our modern egalitarian societies women don’t “have to” be any way but to me at least that does not mean that there aren’t grating, jarring behaviors that just don’t jive with their gender.
And yes, aggression is part of this. I mean it’s banal to point out that women are less aggressive than men and as such seeing ones that are (or worse: pretend to be) leads to a mental disconnect. For me it is the same for related reasons with said breed of vocalists.

There are a handful of chicks in metal who absolutely kill it on harsh vocals. Masha from Arkona does better growls than a lot of dudes in the industry. I recently stumbled onto this band called Obsure Sphinx and their vocalist is screaming her lungs out, and it fits perfectly with the music.
I agree in that there are some I've heard that just don't sound right. But if a lady can make it sound badass, then it's badass.
Not metal, but these female lead signers would rip your balls off: Youth Code Lingua ignota

Coming from a woman that would carry, like, zero weight.
Figuratively? ’Cause it definitely wouldn’t be literally. The one is a chubby femlet and the other a modern-day Holocaust survivor from the looks of it. I doubt they’d rip anything off, much less my balls.
Again, there seems to be a misunderstanding here. I am in no way impugning the technique of female Metal vocalists, just the (at least in my mind existing) clash between their demeanor/sound and their femininity, for lack of a better term.
It is kinda like how seeing female gangster rappers with the same affectations and such as their male colleagues is simply preposterous. Does that make it clearer?
Thomas Lopez
Do you not think it sounds ridiculous when a man does it too? Metal vocals are retarded
Noah Phillips
he gets hard when men do it. part of his submission fantasy
Jeremiah Kelly
Well, yeah, true to an extent but when women do it there’s an added strangeness factor, at least for me.
Yikes, look at all that projection going on.

You surprised that your low energy jabs don’t warrant more than a Tu Quoque rebuttal, user? Maybe put some more effort into it than this unimaginative, cookie-cutter tripe and perhaps I’ll honor you with a more elaborate response.
I mean I get his point. In a vacuum it can be pretty laughable but together with the whole package there’s definitely a place for them. Like, how action movies can be silly when taking a certain perspective but they can nonetheless be badass at the end of the day.

i wanna breed with the halestorm singer
Zachary Allen
highly doubtful

What's the point of screaming? Most of the metal vocalists don't even do it with passion. It's just a screaming contest. I can't take any of them seriously.
Colton Edwards
It makes the music sound more edgy It's lame as fuck. Heavy metal forever
