>Twenty years ago, Radiohead released “OK Computer,” a landmark album that was profoundly prog: grand and dystopian, with a lead single that was more than six minutes long. But when a reporter asked one of the members whether Radiohead had been influenced by Genesis and Pink Floyd, the answer was swift and categorical: “No. We all hate progressive rock music.”

To be fair, there really isn't direct prog influence in Radiohead's music. They make music with same mentality as 70s band, but you don't feel like that "hey, this part is influenced by Genesis" and so on. I would go as far as not calling Radiohead prog rock, but experimental rock instead.

Hating progressive rock is strong and kind of foolish statement though. Hating one genre which is one of core genres of experimental rock music, isn't wise as experimental rock musician. One should be open to influences instead. Such a narrow views and unopeness, might lead into artistical dead end.

Prog rock after 70s is mostly simply bad music though. Porcupine Tree and Riverside and Riverside are good, but everything else is quite meh. Just boring rehashes of true original music. Why should I listen Flower Kings, when I can listen Yes instead?

idk i only like creep the rest of their music is boooooring, I'm not even troling this must be the most overrated band since the beatles.

i found a picture of you

idk i hate radiohead but i like prog, thing is most uk indieheads you talk to will say they don't like prog so it doesn't surprise me, cause prog was always about showing off which is like the opposite of all these 'cool' modern bands' shtick

the average radiohead fan

N

Only faggots were allowed to be rockstars after 1992.

If it was Thom who said this he was probably being sarcastic. I'm pretty sure he's praised Floyd in the past iirc

this
to him the question may have seemed so stupid and the answer so obvious that he just decided to poke some fun at the interviewer

Thom said at the time they were heavy influenced by U2's Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

how is it prog? when i think of prog i think of rhythmic complexity and odd time signatures
where does that come up in that album?

That isn't the only characteristic of prog rock, are you fucking stupid?

Come on, Paranoid Android, Karma Police and Subterranean Homesick Alien are listenable, too.

I guess Pink Floyd aren't prog either

Flower Kings definitely has an album's worth of good, not overly derivative tracks.
