Let's settle this once for and for all: Is it overrated?
Let's settle this once for and for all: Is it overrated?
"yes"
no
babbys first album
No it's great and it deserves that designation
*once in four all
once and* for* all
Idiot.
wrong
absolutely not. our ability to split light into its component wavelengths and analyze them is our window to the universe. we'er able to determine radial velocity of stars and galaxies (speed at which they are moving toward us or away from us), identify elements in the atmospheres of stars, determine rotational velocity of stars, and so much more. in fact, not enough people appreciate the role light spectra play in allowing us to understand the universe.
Yes
Based and redpilled.
all for one and winston feral you faggot brainlets
lets settle this once and for all
pee penis poo poonis
how many pee pees can op shove in his poo poo
Just because there’s millions of people that wear the shirt with this logo, it doesn’t make the album itself the best thing since sliced cheddar cheese.
Overrated but still good.
it's just rated
Of course it is. Doesn't mean it isn't good though.
No. It's a jazz album that gained mass popularity. In a sense this album is the final conclusion of the traditional jazz practice.
Kind of how in a way Jimi Hendrix is the final conclusion to the Blues.
No. It's actually their best, but most Pink Floyd fans won't admit it.
Everything canon is overrated. It's still good though.
It's pretty unremarkable. Not a second of music to write home about. MUHNAY! Shut it, you're producing the most expensive album for its time and bitching about the evils of money? You pompous ass. Go record a man running across a bridge with a telephone ringing, shithead.
>It's a jazz album
I'll fucking fight you
>Great Gig In The Sky
>7/8 Money Improvisations
>Call and Response. Trading parts in Any Colour You Like
>Comping on most tracks
yeah its overrated but that doesnt mean its bad
I am wholly unconcerned, grandpa.
You have to be genuinely retarded. DSoTM was one of the most rigorously studio airbrushed and sterilized albums ever released when it came out. You're kidding yourself if you don't think 95% of the notes played on that album weren't meticulously planned out
yeah but i didnt listen to it t b h
Kek
You can have an album with jazz elements and have it be meticulously planned as well. For example, Blood Sweat and Tears.
No.
It also has great sound production/quality and that's why it aged so well.
Blood Sweat and Tears? Like, the Johnny Cash album? What are you even talking about?
And yes, I agree with you, but almost zero of the theory of that album is borrowed from Jazz. It owes way more to the blues, prog, and Beatles-style psych pop. Yes maybe they comp, and have a song in 7/8 but you're fucking retarded if you unironically makes DSoTM a "jazz" album kek. If that's the case fucking Kraftwerk's the Man Machine is a blues album because of the E-A swing on The Model.
no
Nah the musical group from 1968-69. I should have said Frank Zappa.
Richard Wright is heavily inspired by jazz and Pink Floyd's career started from improvising live music and jams, kind of like the Grateful Dead. This is still an influence in the way they compose songs, even though it formally is a Prog, Rock, Psych, Blues record.
Ok sure, but that still doesn't mean calling DSoTM isn't an absolutely retard-tier statement. Might as well call Siamese Dream a classical album because of the strings on Disarm. Like even if I concede they were influenced by jazz doesn't really mean actual jazz music shows up when listening to DSoTM. A few jazz elements doesn't make a jazz album. And yes you can have meticulously produced jazz albums I.e. Zappa but, Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, and all his albums that could be called Jazz Fusion are hugely reliant on long, winding solos and jams, and basically follow the traditional structure of jazz music. Stuff like apostrophe uses jazzy chords but at most that stuff could be called Jazz-rock, which in itself is barely, if at all, jazz. I'm sorry but I'm just really triggered by the way you thought it was acceptable to say DSoTM is a "jazz" album that got really popular like I'm sorry but I feel like I would be hard pressed to think of a more brainlet statement about music if I really tried
Of course it is. Nothing could be that popular without being overrated. It's very good though.
>You're kidding yourself if you don't think 95% of the notes played on that album weren't meticulously planned out
So is most (studio) jazz
Who else /Animals/ here
yes
Overrated sure but only because it's a demigod instead of a god.
DSotM charted on Billboard for 900 weeks.
That's 17 years.
Years.
