Spotify pays artists pennies per play. You should use spotify to see if you like an album then buy it or buy a concert ticket to see them. Labels are aware that this is common and actively try and push their artists into playlists and promotional material on spotify.

I'm not against pirating music and like you said there is no solution to the decline in record sales. Spotify is a good service for the consumer(not the artist) so the consumer uses it. If you cant wait 1 minute for a spotify ad to play but still want the service after breaching their terms of service then they have the legal right to denie that service.
