theres so many things to pull from to play better, i kinda just focus on trying to memorize the notes on each fret which can get exhuasting, and looking at what notes fit in certain chords. But this is exhausting and i dont feel like im making much progress, as well as theres other things i feel not doing. alot of my practice just feels unsatisfying and i havent had much click yet in terms of playing past boring pentatonic wanking
Having some problems trying to intonate my shitplank. >1st and 2nd strings >Open string perfectly tuned >12th fret harmonic is always off >Adjusting the bridge saddles and height does jack shit, the tuner always says it's off by 7 cents no matter what you do This is what I get for buying chinese hardware but I can't afford a good bridge right now or in the foreseeable future. Any ideas on how to fix this? It's fucking useless for recording like this.
to this day i still havent learned the fast run on sweet child o mine
Gavin Foster
I've decided after buying this in December that I'm never going to buy another guitar again. This took such a chunk out of my checking account but it was worth every penny of the $2500. Electric guitar does nothing for me anymore and I finally decided to get rid of all that gear. I don't even know how much money I've spent on gear in my 13 years playing but I know it's been the biggest expense of my life, more so than cars or rent. What is the point if you're not a professional musician?
>talking to coworker who plays in band about recording music >Don't know a lot about it so figure it can be done just by plugging a mic into a laptop and recording to a DAW >gets really pissy and offended over this, talks about how you need an audio interface unless you want it to sound like garbage, etc.
I hate myself for having this demotivate me further to make my own stuff. I thought we were just talking, I wanted to know a bit more about recording.
Never gonna make it in a million years. You might as well go ahead and pull out your pathetic little chisel and carve it into stone: you ain't got what it takes and you never will.
Please kill yourself and free everybody around you from the burden that is your wretched existence. Seriously.
I'm going to see if I can get that pin-striping off without totally wrecking the paint. The fact that it's a matte finish will hopefully play in my favor.
Carson Bennett
>$511.33 >the cardboard box a Gibsonâ„¢ is shipped in is worth more than an entire Dean lole
dont let that get to you user. /prod/ has bashed me for a year until i got an interface. the only difference you'll notice is the noise floor, which will be pretty decent without an interface if you get a decent mic cable.
i want to post a "practicing" video on instagram showing off my legatos but i dont know what is a good standard not to ashame myself, any references pls?

That was my only gripe as well.

why not
Asher Sanders

i'm a fraud, a copycat. i can't write a song or make original shit. it's hard to cope with it

>Officer James Niggemeyer came in through the back door, behind the stage. Gale only saw the officers in front of the stage, but did not see Niggemeyer, who was armed with a 12 gauge Remington 870 shotgun, approaching him from the opposite side of the stage, past a group of security guards. Seeing Gale lift his gun to Brooks' head, Niggemeyer fired a single shot, striking Gale in the face, killing him instantly. >Officer James Niggemeyer

heres a song that i started in april/17 and never wrote the rest of it instaud.io/3wAB

>his tube guitar pedal is so voltage starved that it has an LED in it to make it look like the tube glows What post got your latest tripcode banned this time?
I mean I'm willing to get an audio interface, I really don't know how much difference it will make but from what I've read it seems like it might be a good idea to get one. I'm not really sure about everything just yet in all honesty. would an "XLR to usb" not work? Also, I planned on using garageband since it's already on a computer I can use.
>2 different posters there, bud >no proof Haven’t you done this dance before?

lol what a sad lonely loser you are. now do that thing where you posted one post with your phone and the other with your desktop just so you could take a screenshot and pretend you weren't samefaging we all need a good laugh
>meet a singer songwriter that wants me to play guitar for his solo shit >makes me learn his shitty rock songs and his good pop songs >hes a poorfag and cant afford studios >doesnt want to record with me >3 years pass and he still didnt record anything
>get a time and energy draining job that pays 250usd a month (3rd world) >decide to start composing and recording all by myself >save everyhing and buy microphones, acoustic panels, interface, upgrade my guitars, try to learn to fuckin sing >too uncreative and insecure to write songs >end up recording endless covers for practicing and jerking off to my recording gear , for months on end
>join a band >feel like shit because all i contribute with is generic lead guitar fills and octaved power chords >they dont believe i can record good shit and decide to record at a studio >we're going to record at a studio, singer pays most of the sessions by himself >i dont show up for the sessions and fail to record my part because i'm nervous around them >other guitarist's guitar wont stay in tune for a whole song
as i said the difference is mostly the noise floor. i made this plugging a us$13 sm57 copy plugged to the onboard soundcard youtube.com/watch?v=v4ZFyEbRnlQ theres noise everywhere and the kick is too loud because i wasnt hearing it, i found that the sublows are quieter than they should be because the onboard card is weak
This guitar has two too many strings. I went to high school with like 90% Mexicans. They're short people.
Aiden Flores
im not jcum
Nolan Clark
lol so yes to both then?
Adrian Scott
we kinda are and theyre all nice guys but i'm a difficult fag. we had a recording booked yesterday (sunday) by 10am, i forgot it and went to bed at 3am jerking off and watching youtube, then i woke up and realized the only way was to take a quick shower and hurry to the studio but i didnt want to do that in a fuckin sunday, then i proceeded to chill as usual and pay attention to never open facebook so they dont see me online. now i just opened facebook and the singer sent a message telling me to come up even if late because we would record until 14pm. fuck me.
>anyone here ever had a panic attack on stage? Naw. Naw. I have rather severe social anxiety, actually, to the point where I rarely leave the house except to do shopping. However, stage fright has never been an issue. I'm too fucking good for that shit. Nope. I play the fuck out of the guitar and I know it. My first gig was a sold out world famous venue on New Year's Eve. Didn't give a fuck.
Angel Cook
>When you remember how you gave up playing guitar as a kid.
fuck them, they dont want to record on my bedroom and i dont feel good sitting there with the studio guy

Seriously, find a way to cope or let them find somebody who wont hold them back. You're being a selfish prick right now.

this but unironically. i have severe anxiety but i can gig with my eyes closed, it's simply no effort or aprehension because i did my fuckin homework.

You're incapable of functioning in a professional environment and you need to see a doctor if you're going to have any hope of living a normal life. Go see a doctor, get your shit together then give the band thing a try again then.

for me its mostly before the gig. after i get a few songs into the gig i feel good. in that particular case though my drummer fucked up and we went out of time and my mind went nuts

I've been there and done that regarding years of gigging. The most effective way of dealing with stage fright is to remind yourself, "this is by far the most fun thing I could be doing right now at this moment."
i wasnt always that bad, but shit got real bad at home and then other bad stuff like blended with me like a magnet and now i'm on this rut with no control over myself. i used to arrive at the reharsal before everybody on my first bands.
ive been thinkin of it but i always end up thinking i'm a hateful piece of shit and unwilling to drop that and go to church, and also standing in there for an hour is a bore

I cannot tell if this guitar is patrician because I cannot tell if it has three or six saddles. This guitar is patrician because it has six saddles. I unironically found Jesus when I paid attention to the world around me and realized evil people were on one side and Christians on the other side.

Robert Brooks

Wyatt Wood
cover your pickup queerlord
Levi Wright
i can't, i'm so sorry. it's literally perfect in every way imaginable
Evan Reyes
This guitar player has fucked up teeth. It's unfortunate, but true. I think its values build successful civilizations. No human is perfect; people cease being hypocrites when they repent with all the true meaning behind that word. I think if there's one great thing everyone can take away from Christianity, it's the golden rule. That's the good shit right there. Earth will be a super groovy place if everyone follows it.
Camden Gonzalez
Its weight relieved.
Asher Jackson
Yes.
Ryder Wilson
It's the only way to truly make it, you have to be so ugly that no woman would ever touch you. No woman = nothing to spend money on = a part time job pays all the bills. This gave him the time to delicate 12 hours a day to practice for 20 years and thus the legend of Govan was born.
Tuners are in line with eachother, strings aren't, creating harsh angles that could lead to strings hanging up if the nut isn't perfect. Few nuts stay perfect forever. Headstock is angled to get string tension over the nut leading to a weaker neck. This could be avoided by not trying to make an electric guitar with vertical pegs look like pic related, which mediates the problem pretty damn well by having the strings tied closer (inside) the headstock and the strings being just a tad straighter - straight enough to keep them in tune even with a nut that's beginning to wear out and old grungy strings. Electric guitars in general are plagued by form > function faggotry. Just look at your average metal band.
The bridge design is archaic and using the tailpiece instead of going straight through the body results in less string tension over the bridge in an already floppy short-scale guitar. Such bridges sacrifice aesthetics and a bit of tone for adjustability. And I believe they're cheaper to install because string heights are set when the slots are cut by CNC machine, instead of set with grub screws.
Supposedly people think these sustain for days. They actually sustain less than fender-length guitars (and longer), but the initial attack is softer so your brain doesn't think the note dies off as soon due to the more gradual taper down to nothing.
I don't really know what I'm talking about this is all guesswork and broscience
Wyatt Ramirez
how to write stuff like bohemian rhapsody? as in harmony knowledge.
Mason Walker
Pic
The look gibson and others go for, poorly
>we want to look friendly and traditional even though steel string guitars aren't
>less string tension over the bridge Which is good for tuning stability and string breakage. >adjustability This is obviously the design's strength and why I personally love it. It is so fucking easy to set the action on an LP. >sustain The old LPs sustained more than the current ones. The old ones are heavy as fucking shit.
Logan Hernandez
Truthfully? The only flaw is I can't afford one because I'm poor.
Jaxson Carter
the day has come. my les paul's switch is failing. where do i tighten with a plier to make i last a bit more? some tech did it for me once and it worked.
Tuneomatics are less adjustable, but easier and cheaper to adjust.
Also I'm pretty sure they never sustained for that long. Sustain is a function of string tension and attack first and everything else dead last.
Alexander Allen
you poor soul
Carter Lee
no, the new ones are heavy as shit because the good wood is gone and they're left with trees with high mineral content in them. maybe they're lighter now because theyre weight releifing these pos bodies.
Isaiah Hall
Honestly, I prefer my string tension over the bridge to be the minimum necessary to keep the strings in the saddles when I bend strings and no more, for tuning stability and string breakage reasons. >I need more sustain Compression pedal. >but muh dynamics Compression pedal with a blend function. Alternately, a Fernandes sustainer. Alternately, an eBow. Alternately, point your pickups at your amp or rest your guitar's neck on your amp to induce controlled harmonic feedback. There's lots of ways to get sustain.
Carson Richardson
>Tfw have a fender hardtail with the strings divebombing straight into the body and have never broken a string
Just change them once a month fags
Robert Wright
Every pre 1980 LP I've ever felt was significantly heavier than every post 2000 LP I've ever felt.
LPs are chump change compared to shit like suhr, macmull, strandberg, schecter japan, ESP japan, carvin, etc.
actual gibson brand gibsons span further into poorfag price strange than non-SE PRS guitars. the shit they get is for $100 guitar quality control on $800 guitars. if you're above the poverty line and haven't fucked yourself with 3 kids, an iphone per family member, cable TV and internet, a name brand phone contract, multiple car loans, and god knows what else you can probably afford a genuine USA made gibson and get it cheaper than a USA made fender.
>i haev gibson me rich people pay this much for korean schecters.
a brand new made in USA gibson costs less than a brand new made in USA fender stratocaster
they aren't richfag bling
Hudson Torres
>suhr, macmull, strandberg, schecter japan, ESP japan, carvin These all must be meme trash desu. Never heard of any of those.
Juan Campbell
the first two are overpriced bullshit the third one is priced according to how fucking weird it is the fourth and fifth are genuinely good and not overpriced for being hand made the sixth is really fucking good
Jackson Flores
If you say so. I don't even care enough to look up random names on Google.
Thomas Turner
I have a silly question: are there any benefit in practicing scales at high speed when you don't plan to play steve vai shit?
Josiah Torres
Suhr is what all the studio musicians play
Isaac White
Are any of you guitar teacher? If so, what's your background?
Another silly question: do people practice all scales without distinction or do they just pick their favorites and make it their speciality? I know it's not the best idea if you want to play with othe rpeople, but I've been doing that for a while (just focus on the key of E) and I made a lot of progress.
Noah Diaz
I've largely abandoned scales in my improvisation. You've got that backwards. Who do you think makes more money on average, aggressive humans or passive humans?
Justin Gray
Who do you think makes more money in average Studio musicians
Thomas Martinez
Moving into a new place with a roommate soon. Any reccs for mini practice amps I can plug my headphones into? Was looking at the vox amplugs, they seem decent and a good price but I'm not a fan of how limited the sound on them is, the way they market 7 different types of them makes it seem like they're just trying to jew you into buying a whole bunch of different ones. Any second opinions on those? Would like something that is versatile.
Leo Torres
>I've largely abandoned scales in my improvisation. I don't mind learning scales. Theory is really helpful for me because I had zero musical education before I was 19 (in my case, studying it IS the shortcut to making decent music).
Did you really abandonned it? Maybe you just internalized it and stopped worrying about it.
Isaiah Butler
I think all musicians tend to gravitate towards certain scales or patterns over others, even if it isn't intentional. Most guitarists go to minor pentatonic scales or the natural minor and major when soloing. Some guitar players, like Steve Vai, make a point of soloing in Lydian or Mixolydian to bring out the distinctive, spacey sounds of those scales/modes (there's an Ernie Ball video on YouTube where Vai's improvised lines are almost entirely in E Mixolydian). A lot of neoclassical shred guys like to solo in harmonic minor or play repeating diminished shapes, since those patterns sound very dramatic and reminiscent of Bach and Vivaldi, etc. As an improviser, there are more options to consider: you can work through simple diatonic modes as you play over changes (although I would suggest not trying to play a new scale or mode over each new chord, as you'll start to lose a sense of melody), or you can think about how smaller licks, arpeggios, enclosures, etc. might work with what you're playing over. The idea is to get so comfortable with different scales, arpeggios, licks, and other patterns that you don't need to think too much about what's going on in order to access the particular melodic device you want to use.
Hudson Young
My sister has an old bass guitar made by some no-name company called Crescent laying around. The nut on the thing is broken. If I wanted to get into bass, would I get it fixed or am I better off buying a starter kit from a more reputable company?
Michael Allen
>Did you really abandonned it? Keyword largely.
Zachary Sanders
I meant even go further, like just know how play in a few keys and cheat for the rest, like detuning, using capos and so on if you need to play in the key you didn't bother to study (I know that you just have to transpose, but sometimes it can be tricky).
Those Ernie Ball videos are pretty cool, I liked the one with Robin Finck.
>half steps between b/c e/f >these are not notated as sharps/flats but like every other note, which are a whole step apart for the rest of the notation >"dude C major lmao, only scale you need" >guitar is tuned to E, all frets are half steps. no pairs of retard frets with a different interval
no shit nobody uses this without being told that they should, it makes no sense unless you're an 17th century clavier player who hasn't discovered even temperament
chromatic notation pls, i'd rather use tabs than larp as j.s. bach
Eli Lopez
It starts making more sense when you play piano.
>chromatic notation pls, i'd rather use tabs than larp as j.s. bach Who said tablature wasn't a legitimate notation system?
Grayson Rodriguez
literally the worst post ive ever read on Yea Forums
Cameron Williams
What if you play piano but only play in D minor
>why does the only good scale need these funny symbols?
I have a real old epiphone sg that I want to upgrade since it was my first axe and am looking to get a snappy, bright lead sound of it. Any pickup recommendations? I'm thinking a Polyphia or Fall of Troy kind of sound.
Camden Collins
It's not problem if you know how to play that scale on the piano (it actually makes things clearer). But as a guitarist, yeah, it's not the most convenient.
>some scales are better than others no
Lincoln Jones
This is 4channel, turdburger. How about you start paying attention?
>>some scales are better than others >no unironically some scales are better for guitar because theyre more playable. its pretty rare to see something written in Ab or something
Adam Smith
That was the plan. To give you depression.
Nathaniel Martinez
hey guys i quit busking (vocals + acoustic guitar) for a while because on top of being bored with it, my gear was heavy and hard to charge, and it sounded uninspiring to boot -- when i come back to it, i think i wanna do the battery + inverter route with some nice gear
does anyone know if a silverface fender champ is loud enough to busk? i'm talking, as loud as a maxed out roland cute street EX
Yes, there are some reasons you should favor a scale over another depending on your instrument and what you do with the low end, but many times I read people (especially classicalfags) attributing special flavors to each key and that's complete BS.
Angel Jones
sounds like you might be suffering from acute autism
Brody Ward
lmao sire i just wanna live out my buckley role play
The flavors thing is not BS, it's synesthesia. A portion of people with perfect ear can have it (which is why you hear people who had classical training as kids talking about it). no one here has perfect ear, though
Mason Thomas
>but many times I read people (especially classicalfags) attributing special flavors to each key and that's complete BS. thats a consequence of repertoire honestly. like for me personally hear A major as a bright key because of the pieces/songs ive heard in the key. same goes for rockfags who call d minor the saddest key when its CLEARLY g minor lol
Levi Jackson
go inhale some water like your hero faggot
Ian Hernandez
There's no hierarchy in colors either. I guess you can associate feelings with colors (like yellow evokes sand, the sun, your mother's shirt or whatever), but I doubt that'd work with music.
OK, I can accept that, but in the absolute, the difference doesn't exist.
Any starter kit you buy will come with a bass just as bad as the Crescent
Nicholas Sanchez
Are you saying that red is better than blue for example? how so? The primary/secondary colors is just a standard people agreed upon, it could have taken a different shape.
so help me fa/gg/ots, I'm looking for an Les Paul, budget around 3000 Euros, with a THICK neck. you heard me right, a thick fucking neck. the thickest fucking neck you can get on a les paul. Tried a 60s slim taper, shits too thin. tried the les paul traditional, neck shape is to thin. tried a 59 custom shop, neck is too thin. tried an original 52 goldtop, the neck is to thin.
I'm used to playing a HUGE telecaster U-neck, so i want something that feels kinda samey on a Les Paul. ideas?
