Is record store day anti consumer?
Is record store day anti consumer?
no, why? to me it seems pro consumer
Listen to what you want, how you want, whatever is easiest for you.
>very limited quantities
>stores not allowed to give information pertaining to releases/quantity
>prices are immediately artifically inflated due to scalpers
>prices are inflated due to resellers
THIS.
>travelling for a conference on the 13th
>no fucking chance in hell I'll get a copy of In Her Gentle Jaws
>small town record store might have not even had a chance to get it in the first place
Yes, yes it is, and I'm fucking mad about it.
it's definitely anti-consumer. its marketed as a way to support record stores tho
You can complain about what it's morphed into over the years but supporting record stores is still the backbone of the whole thing. It's probably done more good for physical retailers than bad.
yeah just a bit, but it helps the indie stores so it will do
1. "Not allowed to give information pertaining to releases"
The entire list is online, at the official website
2. "/quantity"
Every year I've called the 3 local stores near me about a week in advance and asked if they would have a particular release and how many they were ordering and they've never lied.
3. "Prices immediately inflated"
So? Fuck you it's a luxury good. It's completely unnecessary to own the album. The lack of quantity just makes it more valuable.
>Every year I've called the 3 local stores near me about a week in advance and asked if they would have a particular release and how many they were ordering and they've never lied.
This. My shop is nice because they let people create wish lists so they typically have a good stock of what people actually want.
Last few years have been poodoo
it's a marketing ploy to sell rolling stones reissues and other similar crap to boomers
Is there anything good this year? Last year had the Johnny Cash set, the Twin Fantasy release, Arcade Fire EP, and Boxer live.
steroids, devo box, new modest mouse
Gonna try and grab Life Metal and 13th Floor Elevators.
Steroids is a bit tempting, but I'm not a fan of that MM track.
There is no ethical consumption under capitalism
There is no ethical promotion under capitalism
Excited for new Sigur Ros
1. It's not their fault you showed up too late to get a copy and they can't afford unlimited amounts
2. They literally tell how much of every record is pressed on their website
3. How is it the record stores fault that scalpers exist? Do you boycott concerts also because people scalp tickets?
im gonna rip the b side its fine
Monty Python Life of Brian
Record Store Day is a total joke cash grab scam.
Only if you consider exploiting consumers' idiocy anti-consumer.
>Cash grab
For the big labels, of course. Really any sort of promotional event always has that cash grab vibe. But there's still new and interesting stuff coming from the indie labels.
The "regional focus" thing is such complete bullshit
Is anti-record store
