No, not that one It's like >60 labeled drum machines. There's a copy on Reddit I think, not sure. There are multiple slightly different ones
Also fuck those wavsupply and ardist packs from Reddit dude, they sound like shit
Nolan Nelson
Does anyone here know anything about the Seaboard GRAND? I was gifted one for my birthday but for the life of me I can't get it to work properly, I've tried it on two different PC's, ROLI support fucking sucks and their manuals are outdated. Their dashboard application isn't recognizing the Grand when I plug it in to my PC and the only time I did get it to work on one PC by just trying it through Equator it seemed to be working but had no 4D or multitouch capability and just generally didn't work very well at all. I don't think there's anything wrong with the actual instrument I think it's a software or setup issue, as you're supposed to set up the instrument through Dashboard before using it through Equator, and I know you can even use it independent of a computer, it just needs to be set up through a PC, but nothing I try works. I'm desperate here /prod/. Sorry for being a massive noob to production, I play a few instruments but am only just getting started with actual music production.
>Also fuck those wavsupply and ardist packs from Reddit dude, they sound like shit Yeah I don't really use them at all I'll look for the 60 labled drum machines though I'm working with some GoldBaby packs rn, I'll post the results in an hour or so, its interesting.
yeah, but i did some re-mixing per some feedback, just wanted to see what people thought of where it's at now

vocals sound weird, over-compressed maybe?
Nathan Bailey
ditto this but actually on everything what are you trying to multi-band compress or something? You can't compress away conflicting frequencies man
same place as any other sample packs? midi packs are pretty common, "Drunk" is kind of a hard style to nail, if you find it and it doesn't suck it'll probably be a special company offering it
that's not the pack i was talking about but i forgot this wesbite existed... it's been around for a long ass time. There's overlap in these compilations
The dynamics aren't always there, I'll admit. But I think the production style is strongly suited toward the intended area. Overworked in certain places, underworked in others. Its funny, the browser's spell-check thing is perfectly willing to accept "overworked" with no space, but "underworked" gives the red line.
My dumb ass then tried to test it out by putting a space before the -worked part of the word. Of course when you spell two individual words correctly, there's not going to be spell-check error...
Thanks for the feedback guys, just went through the mix quickly and removed a bunch of compressors and tried "softening" the whole thing does this sound any better, you think?
If you want a desktop, never buy a premade one. Set a budget and use pcpartpicker to apply what's in the above posts to build a good computer. Make sure to post your build in /g/'s pc building threads, so they can make suggestions on things like a component being known for failing soon and things like that. Don't let them tell you what to sacrifice for what, because they're morons and will make dumb suggestions like "get a weaker CPU so you can afford this better GPU so you can get a better framerate on modern games". Use the two posts above to choose the priority of the components.

So I mainly score music with a lot of sample-based elements. Would anyone be able to recommend a VST that provides good, 'modern' electronic elements? There are a ton of synths out there, and it's kind of an entirely different world then picking out horn of string libraries.
it’s pretty cool, I don’t think there’s a name for this ‘dirty yet pragmatically theoretical’ learning style, but it’s definately my preference. excuse my verbosity, but allow me to give an example: chapter one has you dealing with harmonic oscillators, yet also demands excersizes that support the equations in Pure Data, and it gets you plugging up insterlng synthesized sounds quickly while understanding the theory / maths
i shat on pure data a lot previously. (for being a “””graphical””” programming language) but this book has changed my mind. i was growing so frustrated before that i considered rolling my own DSP engine, and this book was recommended to me as a path to DSP and I’ve enjoyed it so thoroughly so far.
this book is both pragmatic and theoretic. thank me later

this is my first time posting this thread btw, just saw the other guy who posted his song a few times lol, i've been posting this almost all week though
Luis Scott
its a fairly common sound, you can hear it on this track as well, theres got to be a youtube tutorial but i dunno what to search
yeah i'm fucking stupid and was about to try something convoluted. Serum duh lol
Camden Carter
Is this close enough? instaud.io/3vPI I think I got the gist down, but the exact harmonic content needs a bit of work.
It's basically serum's two oscillators set to saws with max unison and a lot of spread, being fed into a highpass, then a "reverb" filter, then an actual short reverb. After that I just highpassed it gain outside of Serum and nothing else.
Yeah, I remember hearing it a few times before. It's most likely something simple.
Blake Williams
sounds dope to me I did the exact same thing but with custom tables and threw an envelope to make the detune gradual like vocals lol
it's actually pissing me off that i can't get this sound perfect........ TAKES ME BACK MAN gotta try again tomorrow. imma get angry determined sleep >:(

no, it's not based on math You don't understand what "based on" ontologically implies, sorry. A painter's work is also "based on" light waves of different length. But anthropology-wise, art is NOT based on math despite some modernist attempts that became trite novelties long ago. It's based on imagination, an ability to evoke emotion or image, and artistic perception.

Hey guys, I figured out a way to do microtonality in Ableton.

Needs stronger low end. Also maybe transition into that little part you close with earlier in the song, that was probably its strongest point and it just kinda stops after 5 seconds.

the only thing you really need to understand for making beats is rhythmic shit like accents and maybe some permutation and syncopation and then being able to tell when a sample is out of tune and that's about it

You need to install WinRar and use it to extract from the first one (I thnk the one numbered 00). The crack is usually inside a folder called R2R, along with the instructions.

Do you guys want to do something like last artist standing for /prod/? Like making a song a week or something?
Brody Evans
Sure. I propose every monday we start a song with something in common (say, we all remix the same classical piece like we've discussed the other day) and the following sunday we post our results.
We could start hyping it up in the threads we'll have until Monday so that people know about it beforehand (instead of only those who are present during the first monday), and post about it in each OP to recruit partecipants.
What do you guys think?
Easton Rogers
we could strawpoll the winner too.
Jackson Nguyen
I'm for a weekly thing. Like that failed /ss/ contest that was going to be minimal wave for the first week.
OK. Realistically, starting with a classical piece is a little high on the difficulty curve. Keep in mind a large part of the /prod/ population are beginners. It's not a bad idea per-se but I think for the first one we should just keep things simple.
Owen Hughes
>drunk playing look up quintuple and septuple metre
Jayden Butler
Screwing around with my new recording equipment today.
There are tons of very simple pieces. I'm sure any toddler can learn to play the simple variation of Ah vous dirai-je Maman by Mozart on the piano in no time.
We'll just have to choose something that's not too difficult (a lot of the most famous classical pieces are actually pretty simple) and everyone will be able to load up the midi in the DAW and play around with it.
I also like the idea of remixing some Demarcus tracks, but he's have to give us the stems, or not everyone will be able to remix it.
I remember seeing a YT video of a ton of Yea Forumstants singing a Grimes song like a giant choir. We could do something like this during the week and start to remix it from the following monday.
Nolan Lee
>soundtoys rutracker
>space echo there are a few decent emulations out there. Surreal Machines' Modnetic and AudioThing's OuterSpace to name a couple. AudioThing bundle is easy to pirate but some plugins tend to deactivate themselves occasionally, in that case you just have to load the license file again. I never found a working torrent for Modnetic so I bought it for $70. It actually has some really nice old school reverbs too (especially the 404 spring), + some cool modulation effects.
also I don't know how I feel about Midis. Im new to this Prod. general and your contests but wouldnt samples be better maybe? You could also take Remix stems from a (Semi)popular song. I believe on audioz they sometimes have stems for remixes for download.
The day is irrelevant we can pick any, the thing i worry is people will probably start using trips. And with that elitism comes.
Matthew Morales
sell fire beats
Gabriel Myers
The plan is to start the contest on monday (anyone can start at any point in the week and work on the song throughout it) so that we could all gather on sunday to post what we've made during the week, and restart the process the following day.
Michael Walker
We can see who remixes a song better if that is easier.
Ryan Allen
it's all about attitude
Daniel Nelson
I initially thought of midi because you can replace the sounds, make your own, and create all kinds of variations on it, PLUS, you can find samples of them and have both.
We could definitely include samples of recorded performances alongside the midi.
Jordan Thompson
Yeah either take an acapella or check if there are stems for the song online somewhere
Ryan Young
there's a way to do it that saves you some CPU power by not having load up multiple instances of sampler >load one sampler >open zone section >drop 128 samples into zone >click "key" button >select all samples, right click, select "distribute ranges equally". this will apply a separate instance of the sample to the 128 available midi keys >select each sample and set the pitch and detune to taste
Levi Miller
AudioZ is unreliable for stems. remixpacks.ru/ is much better.
Tyler Miller
you can make it work but not without a lot of trial and error
personally I never remix, would prefer a theme or constraint of some sort
Lincoln Perry
>personally I never remix This could be an occasion to start.
Logan Brooks
i think remixes are the best to compare tho. themes can be laid out too vague and give an experienced producer a much higher advantage than if were all working with the same samples or midis
Luke Ramirez
another idea would be to choose a song at random somehow. because i don't know if you already made a remix for the turkish march user ;^)
Jace Moore
thanks brother, still quite a few touch ups. But im mostly happy with it
That's also good, but I don't know how it could be implemented. Which songs are you gonna choose to pick from?
I just chose the Turkish March because it's short, simple (has a lot of repeating elements so beginners don't get lost in trying to make vastly different parts work), everybody knows it, sounds good, and it has pretty distinct sections that could work well for electronic genres. You can suggest something better, but I thought of this the other time we discussed this and nothing else came to my mind in the meantime that's better than this.
Charles Long
Work on those drums, sound really muddy and in the back
Samuel Brooks
does spotify or some website have a random button? Are there any sites we can have someone put alot of songs into a playlist and hit random?
Andrew Green
You would have to trust the user that presses the button. The most transparent way is to do it like the /FSR/ and assign equal numeric ranges to the songs and roll with the post that the list is posted in. This way the result is picked automatically in a way that we can all see and verify.
Dominic Ramirez
Yeah, I'm a beginner and I feel that something like the Turkish march would be doable for me. Until someone posts something better, I vote for it too.
Nolan Cox
yeah turkish March is not too bad but i find it personally kinda hard to do sth. with it.
well with the random thing you could take the Yea Forums chart for example then roll for (the genre first maybe? and then) an album and then for the song. on the other hand i cant stand most of it. And Copyright issues.
We could also just limit ourselves to public domain music and roll that out somehow. (I don't mean shit like YouTube library music or Kevin mcleod type trash but just in general older music that is public Domain now.
Jack Jackson
Yeah, the problem is that there's very little overlap between music that doesn't have copyright issues and music that have available stems and/or midi. Classical fits these requirements prefectly. Although desu it's not like I'm releasing this on a lable or anything, so I don't really care about the copyright. If others feels the same way we could just choose among what's available on remixpacks.ru.
Sebastian Long
yeah i also don't really care about copyright t b h.
Well everyone can mention what they prefer (so far we have turkish march, random classical or random public domain (aka old music), remix stems or acapellas.
Then make a strawpoll.
Jeremiah Adams
>random classical or random public domain How do you choose among these?
Aiden Foster
Take an online list (Playlist maybe or Wikipedia) add Numbers to the songs, roll.
i cant write lyrics, kill me i cant make a song because i have no sense of meaning i'm ridiculous
Luis James
It's decided then.
But in all seriousness, I'm thinking we shouldn't choose the song right now, or someone might start working on it right away. I think we should set the system up now and choose the song on sunday so we all start at the same time.
Matthew Walker
Too late. My legacy is fully shat on and my career is over. Thanks a lot asshole.
Dominic Collins

yeah good idea. we can work on a random and/or democratic system to choose the song in the meantime.
Owen Wilson
I'm sorry who are you?
Nolan Miller

Nathaniel Adams
i'm user, who are you?
Elijah Martinez
i'm user, who are you?

This is dumb, just do an "everyone flip the same sample" challenge. And everyone has to incorporate that sample into their song. Like say the sample is an interview with Frank zappa or something random like that.
Take granulators and make percussion or pads out of it etc.
Lucas Cruz
another user here. hey user that first user was me, "user". The other user was user. careful not to get that mixed up user ;)
Carson Hernandez
whooooo are you? who who who who

I remember when we did the freesound roulette some anons posted how they used completely random samples to make all the sounds in their songs. You can probably find it in the archive if you want.
Depends on the kind of remix. If you only change a couple of things or remake it with the same essence, then yeah it's not that interesting, but if you have the stems and/or the midi you turn it into something completely unrecognizable.
Adam Perez
yeah mr bill was the guy i meant. he was really good but i don't wanna make a song out of one sentence like he did that seems too much of a hassle lol
i'm glad you guys are showing initiative but this has been pretty cringe desu

If I can learn the basics of trap beats quickly enough I'll participate. I usually only do dungeon synth and demarcus's posts were too funny in how he unintentionally blended both. I'm still of the opinion he should drop his trap act and sell some ds tapes on bandcamp.
Christian Morgan
Do you really think anybody would buy that
Noah Allen
People buy a lot of not so good ds stuff as long as it's on tape
Carson Richardson
I think you underestimate the drive DS nerds have to "support the few artists that make the very specific kind of music I like". Literally who cares if you make trap beats? It's you and 100k other dipshits trying to cash in on 1000k dipshits just following pop trends. If you make good DS all 1k of the people who actually like it will love you.
Ayden Davis
I don't have a tape machine, just FabFilter Saturn.
I don't do it on purpose though. I don't even know what qualifies as dungeon synth in order to sell it. Does it have vocals? Drums? Would these last two songs I did fit? I don't know. I'd feel weird, like I'm taking advantage of people, I just want to get good at alt-pop and hip-hop.

bro yes they're too low. way too low. use reference tracks. use multiple different speakers/headphones that you>synth packs synth.... packs? is that something people actually buy? i get wavetables or presets but that just sounds dumb
Isaiah Russell
it's just downloadable packs that come with a bunch of synths in them you can get them for free

oh you mean like bundled vsts? I know melda and blue cat offer bundles but iirc those are just effects, i've never heard of people bothering with synths, usually people like to pick and choose

Carson Smith
more routing options, more flexible envelopes, more flexible oscillators.......... like way. i've got plenty of problems with fm8 but it's still the undisputed king. Somebody explained sytrus to me in depth once but i forget its specific advantages. If you want to into fm sound design for real you should step up from dexed mate. It can sound nice obviously but it's just not in the same league
HI guys, is there a way to get soundgoodizer on ableton? Its very important for me in FL studio but I recently made the switch to ableton and need it on there too. thanks!

I dunno how to fix it i don't really like the melody there. not to be rude or anything but personally id just do something new, don't see a way to do something good with that annoying melody.
oh user i didnt mean to be rude. I also write a lot of melodies that i trash after writing them. It's just my personal advice to start over. The arrangement itself isnt bad btw, drums are good.
What is your procress when writing music? Do you do things by ear or do you have a scale in mind before doing? Also what is the most fun tool to make sound design? Will youtube tutorials help me to git gud? Thanks for your help.

>soundgoodizer Why use the inferior option when a much superior plugin exists?
I synthesize a sound. For me it starts with the timbre then harmony then melody
Jayden Jenkins
Generally with other musicians, mathematicians, engineers, or anyone else who actually put in the time and effort to learn their craft. The fuck you think youll get from them is the question I wanna know, because it definitely isnt respect if you're this much of a faggot outright.
I was watching this. Why should I learn to mix? I literally hear no difference. Do I have a problem? How can I train my hear to differentiate a good mix from a bad mix? When I make a beat I put all instruments at the same level. Also I use Mixbus, is that a good software?
What are you listening with? It could be that your equipment isn't good enough or your ear isn't trained enough to notice these differences outright, but when you applythem all together they add up to make a make a huge difference.
No problem. The greatest shortcut to reduce the problems of bad listening equipment is to constantly A/B your song with professionally mixed and mastered songs. Find something that sounds amazing in a similar genre, download a lossless version, and constantly compare it to your song by switching back and forth. As you find shortcomings in your track, fix them to the best of your ability and move to the next one. Your song will definitely sound much better this way, and most importantly it will be more balanced.
The pros use reference tracks too even with great equipment, so you should be doing it anyway.

I will try. Thank you again.
Jayden Wilson
Glad to help user.

Asher Collins
Maybe I should buy a controller
Christian Turner
buying shit won't fix your autism
Wyatt Brooks
Please stop using autism as an insult. I feel deeply offended.
Nathan Ross
yeah same im just downloading 100 gigs of plugins lol
Liam Walker
didn't use it that way hermano
Jeremiah Stewart
Maybe not, but it will at least fill me with a sense of accomplishment
Colton Williams
isn't your aim to fill the world with good music? or are you into production for girls?
Andrew Roberts
No you should focus on what you have. That's why DAWs are a shitty way of starting to learn music. Too many ways of doing things and too many possibilities.
Caleb Moore
Both, but I think guitar players have an advantage with the girls
I'm only dicking around cause my hard drive crashed. I managed to save my projects and software, but I had to reinstall my libraries
I think it really depends on if you started on instruments vs software. I use maschine + bitwig which is kind of a hybrid, and it works well for me. Ideally, I'll have hardware synths in the future, but that's out of my tax bracket
Mason Robinson
I hate fucking gigs. There are so much instruments that I want to use that are in gigs but my fucking DAW doesn't support gigs.
Cooper Murphy
>tfw youre going to be the next avicii feels good bros
>my fucking DAW doesn't support gigs What does this mean?
Carson Adams

Easton Wilson
if you had to choose btw girls and great music what would you pick?
Eli Green
I also thought that that was what you meant.
Jaxon Anderson
Me too. Personally I blame Demarcus.
Joshua Ramirez

Jayden Lee

Ian Davis
A kid who constantly posts here about wanting to kill himself.
Hudson Allen
Got it. Is it a popular format?
Jacob Campbell
I guess.
David Lopez
I don't think a woman or any person at all could give me the emotional and spiritual fulfilment that music does. Producing is like meditation or prayer for me.
