Finally listened to this about a week ago after seeing it for a long time here, holy shit I think the 2011 just has become my AOTD, the 2018 is also amazing and they kinda complete each other with the themes, it’s just an awesome album with amazing lyricism and I love the way he completed his views on the past and yeh, simply hooked to this rn

Monomania is an underrated album. Overexposed is great.

It is not gay furry indie rock at all. It is an album about a person creating a Frankensteinian monster forced to love its creator. Then when he gets bored of it he traps it in a mirror and returns to it whenever he gets lonely.

Eh, if anything he's the total opposite. He's talked a bit in his songs about wanting an adult boyfriend when he was in his teens. If all that drama that went down in his band's old sub-reddit is to be believed, he's more attracted to older men. Like, way more attracted. That's neither here or there though.

despite what everyone says, i believe this album is way more about mental health and teenage naivete than it is about romance.

mirror to mirror is will as a teenager going through the motions of a relationship starting and ending where mental illness plagues its highs and lows. my boy, BLID, and stop smoking/sober to death are the introductory stages when the listener is acquainted with will. his desperation in finding and sustaining this romance he misinterprets as salvation for all the wrong he sees in his world is made clear immediately.

bodys and cute thing represent the mania of teenage love, all the kissing and the singing are finally happening for the lonely creator and surely this will cease how quickly him and his lover's bodies are falling apart. when the partying crashes, so does will and his perception of meaning in life coincides with his partner finding discomfort in all the pressure he puts on them to always be there for him and to adapt for him.

note how there is no description of the lover in twin fantasy, just an extreme focus on the feelings will has whenever they're around him. he is focusing on himself only and when faced with the reality of how human his lover is, he turns them into a muse for his body of work. because of all this, his partner leaves and the twin fantasy of love is tarnished. it doesn't matter what will sang in the first minute of his dream -- we /will/ be alone soon enough, and we will find ourselves alone often.

when confronted with this, will disassociates himself from reality and rejects accepting the separation for years until maturity replaces his younger and naive mirrored outlook with the aged face of his lover from all his memories and all his songs. if mirror to mirror is the fresh amalgamation of artistic creation, something zombified from the bodies we've met and turned into art, face to face is that same stitched up idol lumbering around in an empty house of mirrors just hoping to find the exit from its self-serving cycle of nostalgia.

I listened to Twin Fantasy 2018 as the first thing by the band it wasn't a good starting point
I listened to Teens Of Denial and thought it was pretty good
after a month I tried Twin Fantasy again and it had become great
