the problem i see highlighted the most is the moderation's full stop approach to issuing punishments
for example, "joke voting" on genres gets your account banned from voting on genres for 3 YEARS, at which point they'll allow you to re-apply for the privilege, without guarantee you'll even get it back. and that's just for the first offense
they've taken the same approach here which pisses a lot of people off naturally, which is to completely take away the rating weight of everyone who has rated the single highly off of the assumption that they aren't trustworthy to determine the quality of music based off of one joke vote. of course this isn't a parallel comparison, but it's like dishing out life prison sentences for theft

I had hundreds of reviews taken down because of one review that made a joke about the album title. Meanwhile, there's a thread on the forum where mods post and glorify joke reviews everyday.

i like to think about how many users of RYM also use Yea Forums regularly and remember their completely opposing viewpoints on bans/punishments
it would take literal dozens of repeated blatant violations of shitposting rules on Yea Forums to get permabanned but i personally know someone who got perma'd on RYM for simply favoriting a list that insulted a RYM moderator that they didn't even make, and it was the dude's first offense
obviously the disparity there has to be jarring for cross-users who expect at least a tiny bit of leniency regarding it all. it's understandable to see where they're coming from in that regard
i agree with you on your last point desu, weighting is a small deal but it's still an aspect of your account that is permanently changed because of a single, potentially first-offense act

That's not true at all. I had an account for years where the joke was I rated everything 5* except for Hampus' album, which had a 0.5* rating. You're lying.

Find an album with 2-3 ratings, and check its rating listed on the artist page. Now, rate it in a way that would make an obvious change to its average rating, and then check the artist page again.

Is it showing an increased number of ratings but the same average? Your weighting is gone.
