not sure if I can make this thing sound as good as I want it, all the drones are tough to make nice. We’ll see
so this is basically where im willing to take it. its got problems but i don't have time to dive deep and it should sound *okay* now. This should be fine, i hope.
Zachary Morales
It was even awesome the first time u posted it lmao

Looks good to me

I’m a really bad perfectionist. That’s part of why I do these, keeps me sharp without being an enormous commitment.
This is gonna sound fucking great
Parker Harris
Can't wait to listen to it!
Camden Scott
I didn't follow these threads since the beginning, but I have listened to what you guys have made so far and... wow! It's much better and more well-crafted than possibly any other Yea Forums-album before it. Well done to everyone evolved, can't wait to hear the final product.
Ryan Cook
This.
Cooper Evans
Same, I’m excited
Xavier James
I'm so excited to see how this turns out, it makes me happy to see Yea Forums doing stuff like this, cooperating to make something out of their shared passion instead of just arguing

Oh shit the thread made it through the night

iirc she does a lot of music for these types of thing

i dont know but i'd like to say that semen stained diary is gorgeous. i love the lyrics and i think the voice is perfect. there was a version with a bass on it and i thought it got in the way of the song. i just like it as acoustic ballad

i remember you from when i was doing a lot of these a few years ago! it's great that you're still around, and if this is the "good" one then it's great you're on it!
Landon Gomez
Hey everyone I had this small idea of adding some atmospheric guitar to the bridge in Semen stained, just to get a bit more texture, this is just something I improved and it's not mixed I just wanted to hear what people thought Also I'm going to uni so I won't respond in like 4 hours lol so in that time make up your mind if it's shit
It's worth a shot. If it doesn't end up being great then we can just use the other version, right?
Cameron Jenkins
when can I download the whole album?

i don't think it's finished yet

bass added to better version of diary: instaud.io/3vJJ not sure if this fits/is necessary. I was hesitant even adding the light lead guitar that I added. I think the song shines in it's simplicity.
Matthew Brooks
is the user who wrote semen stained diary still in these threads? I'd like to get their take on the overdubs.

Henry Sanchez
depends, you mean the user who originally claimed the song and worked on it or the wymin who didn't even bother to look the op to see if there was someone already working on it, played some random guitar chords and sung some lyrics someone else worked on?
Jaxon Diaz
if you're referring to the user who wrote that bassline and didn't play anything, he wrote that after the wymin posted the guitar version of the song.
Grayson Jones
Checked but you're wrong, mostly considering I was working on the song (and updating it daily) since the fucking first part. >and didn't play anything Maybe because I don't have good recording gear, user.
you literally just had a bassline. You said that it required improvisation on top of it, and didn't supply any other parts. Being a songwriter sure is hard when you only write one part.
Fuck off, nobody here is saying that songwriters don't do anything, we're just saying that you did less that everyone else here.
Lucas Martinez
She’s been a regular in these threads for like three or four years dude
Chase Jones
>we're just saying that you did less that everyone else here. >we SHIGGY FUCKING DIGGY, you were completely unaware of the fact I've been working regularly here since part 1 and you have the nerve to call yourself "we" regarding this project. At this point you'd better be pretending because I was counting on a single guy, the only one who was going to do shit and he suddently left. OF COURSE I'M GONNA LEAVE MY SHIT ON STANDBY WHEN I DON'T KNOW WHO THE FUCK IS GOING TO PLAY FUCKING WHAT ARE YOU STUPID? Now I get why Zappa didn't work with women. These being the keyword. It's "This" the album we're talking about, I could care less what she did fucking 3 years ago.
you needed someone to play your bassline before you could write any accompaniments? Damn, what a crutch. It's kinda interesting how we're seeing you go through the stages of grief out of order, all over a fucking Yea Forums album. Last few threads you were depressed and wojack posting and everyone here was trying to cheer you up. Now you're fuming and losing your goddamn mind. Skip to bargaining or acceptance so we can just be done with it.
Benjamin Stewart
this is what I read >LOOL U DUMB LET ME GO AHEAD AND TELL YOU WHAT I THINK THAT HAPPENED UR SUCH A BURDEN XDDD And you know what? I really at this point just don't fucking care because I believe I cared more about both this album and this conversation than you. Overall this is fruitless and I will ask you to go kill yourself and stop posting your effortless guitar chords.
>stop posting your effortless guitar chords I'm not the chick who wrote diary, dude also, the fact that you have to summarize everybody's posts with "where I stopped reading" and "this is what I read" shows that either you have zero reading comprehension or are unwilling to see how batshit insane you've gone over a Yea Forums thread. I guess I'll end with the same formalities you did and tell you to go kill yourself and stop posting half-written piece of shit songs that you yourself can't even write accompaniments to.
Juan Sullivan
Can you go autism post on r9k instead
Isaac Thomas
Nah, he’s like the band’s bad boy, we’re sure to get famous now
Luke Martin
Anyway, I didn't force my song on the album I was fine having it die like ten threads ago. It only came back cause no one could play your bassline, sorry man don't know what you want me to do about it. Wish I could hop in a time machine learn bass and come save you
Nathaniel Collins
are you the user who wrote semen stained diary? what do you think of the overdubs?
Matthew Roberts
so do we have an album/band name officially decided yet? We should probably do that.
Joshua White
Hey I'm abck this thread sure took a turn since I left lol Yeah please we need to do this, if someone has ANY idea we can jump off of that'd be great
Bentley Reed
There’s been more than a few good candidates although I’d rather not use something with Yea Forums in the title personally. Mutant Honey was cool
Anthony Perry
ii told you, the mugicians or at least people give vibes they want in a name or something
Owen Morris
Yeah I forgot to say that a few threads ago we discussed using the word mutant as it alludes to Yea Forums without being too over the top and something to do with honey because of the collaborative effort they do when making honey, so if anyone gets something from this concept or anything that alludes to mu or collaboration that'd be swell I don't know, if we use a name that's just a random word with mu it seems a bit uncreative to me
Thomas Allen
C h e c k e d
I like honey too because of the “milk and honey” connection w NMH
Nathaniel White
Oh btw I forgot to say yeah I really like this so disregard mine. One small thing if you're still here user could you lower a bit the volume on the lead guitar on the part around 1:30 when you play some chords? I know it's a small gripe but it kinda overpowers the voice for a bit
Ian Mitchell
Holy fuck all the years on Yea Forums and I've never gotten trips and since I started this I just keep getting blessed digits
Kevin Collins
I like the name mutant honey is that band or album name? Also did that user ever come back with cover art? no problem, gimme a sec
honestly i like the track 10,000% more with no embellishments. and thats ten thousand percent.
i think the vocals are gorgeous and i think the chords flow really nicely and i think the lyrics are superb. i mean there's two awkward lines here and there ("structurally devoid of repondency" is a bit of a word salad, i feel like "reciting soliloquies"is reaching a bit) but for each of those lines there's a 10/10 moment ("will i get to know you or will you fade into the background like the rest?" "will i get back the love that i give?" and my personal favorite "i heard that you're married, how inspiring for a girl who looks less than 19"), truly weighty lyrics that had me listening to the song over and over again, taking in the vocal inflection at the turn of every phrase.
most acoustic + vocal songs can sound a bit lazy unless they have something that makes them POP and i think this one is one of them. i feel we'd be doing the song a serious disservice by adding embellishments. it's a beautiful composition coupled with a great vocal performance and lyrics that hint a great lyrical talent behind them.
i vote a stern NO towards any embellishments whatsoever to this song. i think it's beautiful with just the vocals and the acoustic and i think the user who recorded it should feel very proud of herself.
I'd still lower it a bit more if it's not too much of a bother, it's jsut that at 1:30 specifically the guitar enters a bit too strong and as user points out it's a really lovely song in it's simplicity so the vocals should be the main focus I completely get what you're saying man but I think user's additions aren't very intrusive and the bass especially makes the melody flow really beautifully, the song is still 100% an acoustic ballad
Luke James
i'm just saying. i feel like the bass is already very distracting and i feel like the lead guitar part is very nice but it doesn't add anything here. most of all it's the bass part. i like the idea but the execution feels off, it's just too present and it gets in the way.
i'm only saying this because i'd feel dishonest not voicing my opinion
Henry Gutierrez
Honestly i also still think the bass is sorta much
It’s a nice part but unless the mix was reworked from the ground up there’s just too much going on
Owen Jones
I dunno, it may be because I did the embellishments so I'm biased towards them, but I think that they're light enough that they just add a little form to the song and help the song feel like it's building up. I really like the original, and I wanted to keep the same feeling as the original, and I'm open to critiques on lower certain parts. This all being said, if more people come forward and say that they prefer the song without any overdubs, I'll happily withdraw my overdubbed version from the album.
one sec, I'm gonna try and do a less busy mix, as per and 's suggestion.
Luke Williams
user doing the mix would you mind posting a version with also the bass lowered a bunch, let's decide after that
Joshua Sanchez
what I'm currently working on, I thought it was a little too strong in the bridge(?) section
Let's see what She Writes and cc/d user say, I hope it's not too much of a bother for you if we decide to remove it.
Cooper Robinson
I just want this album to be as good as it can be, and even if it's not necessarily the choice I would have made I respect the fact that this is a collaborative effort. If people really don't want it, it's fine by me.
Benjamin Morgan
:) I'm glad you're so understaining user COUGH COUGH not like some other user COUGH COUGH (this guy )
Michael Jackson
The bass might work if the louder parts are brought down more.
Try this for the alt guitar: cut everything before the piece under “you’re so elegant and sharp.” I truly think the mix before that just isn’t gonna get where we want—it feels like it’s fighting for space with the rest. But I love the stuff from this point onward and think it folds into the song much more elegantly, and I think it could work well.
Jayden Hernandez
instaud.io/3vLV Anything lower than the bass at this level will just be inaudible and muddy the song in a way that listeners wouldn't be able to identify. That is to say: if you still think the bass in this version is too loud, I think it's best to use the version without bass.
Joseph Miller
Damn I feel like the part before you're so elegant and sharp is the best part, I feel like after the moodier bridge gives it a bit of progression
Camden Evans
Nah I mean just the peaks not the whole thing. I think a version without bass will sound fine but honestly I only take issue with a few moments right now.
It’s nice but doesn’t fit in as well. What people want out of the simple arrangement can be achieved if the most prominent added parts are reined in.
Eli Hall
Upon closer listening I actually think I’m fine with the bass now, if you eq it just a bit so it stays out of the mids. And yeah I LOVE the guitar part now.
Also I think it goes without saying but repeatedly listening to this song has been real nice, I really do like it
Ayden Wood
instaud.io/3vM6 I'll be honest, I do miss the earlier bit of the lead guitar, like mentioned. I lowered the mids on the bass. Thoughts? Also, I agree, working on this song is very relaxing. I haven't listened to many of the others in a while, I'm looking forward to hearing many of them fresh when the album comes out.
Elijah Harris
Great to hear you're good with this version user I hope ConcentrationCamp/Democracy user pops back in to butt in with his thoughts but I'm sure he'd be at least happier with this version Glad to see you being so dilligent with the other user's critiques you're a bro
Asher Barnes
I’m really happy with the bass now and I think other objectors will be too. As for the guitar, i wouldn’t mind listening to the whole thing now that the bass is fixed, but there’s something that gives me chills about the way it is now
Eli Morgan
instaud.io/3vMc this is the midless bass with full guitar, which one do you like more?
I love mixing music man, this is no skin off my back. The only thing is I'm gonna have to get off for the night in a bit because I'm getting pretty tired.
Isaac Roberts
I've just been observing the threads waiting for it to turn into a shitshow, but it seems fine as of now. One of you mentioned using a postcard for the album cover, so I spent like 3 minutes on a postcard site called postcrossing and found a cool one. Pic related was the postcard + added red borders bc the original card couldn't be made into a compact square without looking shite. If any of you want to go out and start posting cool postcards that would make nice covers here, the site does require you to sign up with an address but you can just bullshit it.
The album cover is the most important part so it's not something to take lightly.
If you turn down the first part a bit I’d be on board i think
Ryder Cooper
Maybe put the name on the left side?
M H U O T N A E N Y T .
or somethin like that
John Perry
I think the vocals are a bit too quiet at the start of in the concentration camp but that might just be me
Jack Adams
I wasn't planning on that being the cover. Probably would want to make the borders the same texure as the hearts, which is something I cannot do because I am a MS Paint purist. If there was a cover I think it'd look better with no text, unless it was really minimalist.
