That's what they get for making anachronistic music.

I'd say In Absentia can be seen as a definitive release

WALK 'N' CRY

i'll admit they never made a true 10/10 but
>the good son
>tender prey
>your funeral... my trial
>from her to eternity
>skeleton tree
>let love in
>the boatman's call
>murder ballads
wut?

>blocks your path

*is

I'm with OP. PT's discography sits in the 6.5-8.5 bracket, but they've never dropped anything completely flawless.

Warpaint

Great live band of talented women but their albums just don’t capture that at all. Except for maybe The Fool. Maybe.

um Deadwing

they have a lot of great albums, but of the great albums none of them stand head and shoulders above the others.

The Rolling Stones

*Fear of a Blank Planet wants to know your location*

Can someone just give me a quick rundown of the best Porcupine Tree? I'm a retard and don't have the patience to listen to a complete songs. I've listened to Anesthetize and really like it.

*Complete albums. Fuck, maybe I really am a retard.

If you like Anaesthetise, you'll like the In Absentia, Deadwing and Fear of a Blank Planet records.

Signify, Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun are my personal favourites, but are a little more spacey and less rock-driven than the later stuff.

All their stuff is good, but the six albums I just mentioned are generally considered the best.

There were a number of great punk bands that never got their shit together to put out a proper album, which is a shame because now all we have for a lot of them is poorly recorded live stuff.

Definitive modern PT singles
> Blackest Eyes
> Lazarus
> Sentimental
> Trains

Best proggy tracks
> Arriving somewhere but not here
> Anesthetize
> Russia On Ice
> Dark Matter
> The Sky Moves Sideways

Best song to cry yourself to sleep to
> Drown With Me
> Waiting
> Stars Die

If you liked Anesthetize just listen to their albums from In Absentia to The Incident, then go back in their discography for more psychedelic tracks.

The Beatles

Thanks, man. I appreciate it. Also, what other bands sound similar to PT? Is PT prog metal? I've also listened to some of Steven Wilson's solo To the Bone tracks, anything similar to that?

>Best song to cry yourself to sleep to
>No Stop Swimming
>No Don't Hate Me
>No Russia on Ice
Wrong opinions. Drown With Me is a fucking jam though.

PT is industrial metal, I think.

>I'm a retard and don't have the patience to listen to a complete album
I don't mean to be that guy but... Jesus fucking Christ.

>Best song to cry yourself to sleep to
>no Feel So Low

>Aftermath
>Their Satanic Majesty’s Request
>Sticky Fingers
>Exile on Main Street

Are you alright? Do we need to call someone?

They're the heavier end of prog rock I guess. See also: Riverside, Rishloo, Vangough, Oceansize, The Chant, The Dear Hunter, Smallman, Motorpsycho (modern), Opeth (modern) and some of Pain of Salvation's stuff.

I do, but only if I'm 100% sure it's going to be amazing.

> Also, what other bands sound similar to PT?

The most similar band to PT rn is The Pinapple Thief. Similar voice/song structure, having PT in their name and also Gavin Harrison drums in the latest albums lmao. Don't like them that much but Alone at Sea is a cool song.

Related bands could be Tool (clear inspiration for Deadwing tracks), Opeth (Blackwater Park and other records produced by Wilson), Wilson's own project Blackfield, Anathema for the sad acoustic songs. I'm a fan of Iamthemorning tho, sounds completely different (piano + female vocals) but has the spirit of PT and also features Gavin and Colin in the last album.

> Is PT prog metal?
Only when they wanted in their last albums, and it's never wankery a la Dream Theater.

> I've also listened to some of Steven Wilson's solo To the Bone tracks, anything similar to that?
TtB is okay but it's the weakest SW record, listen to Hand Cannot Erase for a great overview of everything SW can do. Raven and Grace are classic 70's prog records and Insurgentes is more industrial/experimental.

Porcupine Tree will definitely be an amazing journey.
Up the Downstair is one of my favourites, a very trippy album.

Damn. First Regret/3 years is fucking amazing. Thanks, user.

Isn't greatness and definitiveness subjective?

Nah.

They were onto something with Toxicity, but the more control Daron had over the band, the worse it got.

For me the best example is The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

They are. OP is just a faggot.
