The thing I love about these elitist douchebags is that if you get at all enthusiastic and try to talk to them about Italian baroque composers like Vivaldi, Corelli, and Gabrieli, or French impressionists like Satie and Debussy, they don't actually know shit, so they'll get really defensive and be like "none of that matters because the REAL masters are Mozart and Beethoven!" or some shit like that.

It gets tiresome to see people express opinions like that, where relatively lesser known composers are overrated and famous ones underrated, by no real examination of their actual merits (the regard Satie enjoys on the internet for example is absolutely bizarre). Seems to be most common in younger listeners with an intermediate knowledge of music.

There's a lot of projection going on here. I never denied that Beethoven and Mozart are great. But they are the most famous composers in the history of classical music, so when people dismiss lesser knowns in the way I described, it's annoying. There's nothing in my post that says those two aren't amazing.

Odd thing to guarantee, since in my experience, those who have enough knowledge of music theory to really, truly appreciate classical music find pop (including indie rock) boring.
