Also, the "fans also like" link on artist pages is a really fast way of finding a bunch of new music.

Most people use music solely as social capital and the industry can make a music product valuable as social capital no matter what the qualitative aspects of the actual product. All they have to do is create the perception that the product is well liked and popular - it is then fits the requirements for the normie to hop on board and say they like it and make it actually popular and profitable. The "industry" isn't just music, it's advertising, data collection, TV and radio broadcasting, etc. They focus group new products and then utilize all their resources in a massive advertising strategy across all media to make the new product popular and remake their investment. They're not providing any kind of a genuine service and they are destroying culture.

The problem isn't that it's pop, it's that it's bland pop disguised as "alternative". If I wanted to listen to some prime pop, I would listen to Carly Rae Jepsen or Charli XCX.

I listened to Billie's album but I never listen to modern Pop albums so I have no idea what to compare it to. It does seem a bit "weirder" or "try-hard edgy" when compared to other modern Pop. But overall it's just a few solid Pop tunes mixed with a bunch of filler.
