I miss when Yea Forums was still good

Oh but it is, Either/Or is peak Elliott. The production is perfect, not too DIY sounding and yet not too polished like his later stuff. Songs are top tier almost all around.
It's not the best album of the 90's.
But it's up there.
The lyrics are immediately relatable and the themes are clearly understandable, yet even more rewarding once you really dig into them. The production is intimate and warm but not unlistenably lo-fi. The music isn't as straightforward and basic as lots of the stuff people have made copying him, but it's never showboat-y. Everything that happens does so because it should. When he needs to do some crazy fingerpicking or go to an alternate tuning he does, when he doesn't have to he doesn't. The warm guitars, the ghostly keyboards, the hushed vocals... they all come together to make something beautiful.
But it's not the best album of the 90's, Aeroplane is.
