I just recently got into The Beatles and they've become my favorite band to listen to when I'm stoned. It's hilarious how much drug innuendo (and innuendo in general) made its way into their music for the time. These guys were fucking masters of getting past the censors. These guys knew exactly what they were doing, but pretended like they didn't when people asked lmao
>everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
>that grow SO INCREDIBLY HIGH

Yeah, their lyrics are brilliant. They slipped all kinds of psychedelic drug shit in there. If you know, you know.

>I get by with a little help from my friends
>I get high with a little help from my friends

>ROOOOOLL UP
>ROLL UP FOR THE MYSTERY TOUR
Yeah, they're totally talking about a tour bus.

>getting past the censors
There were no censors to get passed, honestly. At least in America, the 1st Amendment guaranteed they could record and sell whatever they wanted.

As far as radio stations, plenty of them opted to not play the more "druggy" tracks which is why Strawberry Fields and Day in the Life didn't reach no. 1 on the US charts.

PLEASE GIVE ME AN UPVOTE

Some radio stations played Sgt. Pepper in its entirety back in the day. It was a huge deal.

>It's about a road trip!

>I’m soo tired
>I’ll light another cigarette
Yeeeahhh light another “cigarette” I get you Johnny boy (wink wink) totally not weed! (Honk honk)

The Beach Boys are objectively better.

Prove me wrong.

>inb4 "muh revolver"

pet sounds is better than anything the beatles did but the beatles have a better discography overall.

Pet Sounds is only remembered by music critics and historians for inspiring Sgt. Pepper. The Beach Boys' greatest contribution to music was inspiring somebody better than them.

The white album, rubber soul, and abbey road are all better than ANY beach boys project

And Rubber Soul inspired Pet Sounds

>turn off your mind, relax, and float down stream

I've never owned it on vinyl. That's brilliant lmao

Which trippy sitar song is the best?
>Norwegian Wood

In "I Am the Walrus" they chant "smoke pot, smoke pot, everybody smoke pot".

Hopefully, one not-too-distant day, there will be a clear demarcation between a great musician like Tim Buckley, who never sold much, and commercial products like the Beatles. At such a time, rock critics will study their rock history and understand which artists accomplished which musical feat, and which simply exploited it commercially

musical feet lol

Fuck off. Tim Buckley is boring as hell.

The Beatles sold a lot of records not because they were the greatest musicians but simply because their music was easy to sell to the masses: it had no difficult content, it had no technical innovations, it had no creative depth. They wrote a bunch of catchy 3-minute ditties and they were photogenic. If somebody had not invented "Beatlemania" in 1963, you would not have wasted five minutes of your time reading this thread about such a trivial band.

im just here for the feet lol

t. knows nothing about music history

>The Beatles sold a lot of records not because they were the greatest musicians but simply because their music was easy to sell
Nobody claimed they were the "greatest musicians" and they didn't need to be. The Beatles were the greatest pop group of all time because they changed what popular music could sound like. They expanded the sound of pop music. Their brilliance lies in their subtlety. Not technical wankery.
>it had no difficult content
Revolution 9
>it had no technical innovations, it had no creative depth
The Beatles were among the first rock bands to experiment with eastern instruments, tape loops, and track layering. They stopped touring and begin using the studio as an instrument itself.
>they wrote a bunch of catchy 3-minute ditties
Listen to any of their later albums. Some of their songs are 6, 7, and even 8 minutes long.

exactly
if youre making pop music you want people to dance or at least groove to it
no one wants to hear your shitty ballads
lololololo my man i get that youre mad that the beatles are sometimes put too high on a piedestal but the fact that they were all solid musicians who knew how to write genuinely fun stuff

hey dude I really like the beatles but your post is really gay sorry to break it to you

this

The most artistic and innovative aspect of the Beatles' music, in the end, proved to be George Martin's arrangements. He was the true genius behind the music of the Beatles. Martin transformed their snobbish disposition, their childish insolence, their fleeting enthusiasm, into musical ideas. He converted their second hand melodies into monumental arrangements. He even played some of the instruments that helped those songs make history. From Rubber Soul on, Martin's involvement got progressively more evident. Especially with Sgt. Pepper, Martin demonstrated his knowledge and his intuition. The Beatles filled newspapers and magazines with their declarations about drugs and Indian mysticism, and how they converted those elements into music, but it was Martin who was doing the conversion, who was transforming their fanciful artistic ambitions into music.

all the beach boys have is pet sounds and smile that was never finished. the beatles put out like 6 pet sounds in a row, in 4 years or so.

>Rubber Soul
>Revolver
>Sgt. Pepper
>Magical Mystery Tour
>The White Album
>Abbey Road
I like Pet Sounds, but it's got NOTHING on this six album run by The Beatles.

no one has anything on this run. that's why they're GOAT . what the beatles did borders on the superhuman

pretty much this

exactly

>The Beatles were the greatest pop group of all time
Contemporary musicians never spoke highly of the Beatles, and for good reason. They could never figure out why the Beatles' songs should be regarded more highly than their own. They knew that the Beatles were simply lucky to become a folk phenomenon (thanks to "Beatlemania", which had nothing to do with their musical merits). That phenomenon kept alive interest in their (mediocre) musical endeavours to this day. Nothing else grants the Beatles more attention than, say, the Kinks or the Rolling Stones. There was nothing intrinsically better in the Beatles' music. Ray Davies of the Kinks was certainly a far better songwriter than Lennon & McCartney. The Stones were certainly much more skilled musicians than the 'Fab Four'. And Pete Townshend was a far more accomplished composer, capable of entire operas such as "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia"; not to mention the far greater British musicians who followed them in subsequent decades or the US musicians themselves who initially spearheaded what the Beatles merely later repackaged to the masses.
Beatles' "Aryan" music removed any trace of black music from rock and roll. It replaced syncopated African rhythm with linear Western melody, and lusty negro attitudes with cute white-kid smiles.
>Revolution No. 9
was more or less avantgarde two years after everybody else, and three years after the eleven minutes of Goin' Home, by the Stones.
>among first to experiment with eastern instruments
youtu.be/ZCSzxkbMri8
>Some of their songs are 6, 7, and even 8 minutes long.
They were songs ever more meaningless. They scatter studio effects here and there, pretending to be avantgarde musicians

...

It's the motherfucking Scarfuffi pasta you idiot

You don't get it, do you? The Beatles were the greatest pop band of all time. They were able to take elements of avant-garde and experimental music and make something that teenage girls could enjoy. They made experimental music mainstream. Nobody ever claimed they were the most experimental or abstract. They were just a really solid pop group.

fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

you are getting too worked up over a bunch of fun lads who knew how to throw a party

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Why are there age limits? why is it illegal to marry a 12-year old? Helen of Troy was 12. Juliet and Cleopatra were still teenagers when they became famous. Most heroines of classic novels and poems were underage by today's laws. Thomas Edison married a 16-year-old. Medical studies show that the best age for a woman to have children is between 15 and 25 (lowest chances of miscarriage, of birth defects and, last but not least, of the woman dying while giving birth); while the worst age is after the mid 30s. And the younger you are, the more likely you are to cement a real friendship with your children; the older you are, the more likely that the "generational gap" will hurt your children's psychology. Therefore it is much more natural to have a child at 16 than at 40. In countless countries of the world women have their first child at a very young age, and stop having children at a relatively young age. Nonetheless, in the USA it is illegal to have sex before 18 (but, note, only if the partner is over 18, which is like saying that it is ok to rob a bank if you are a banker), while it is perfectly legal to get pregnant at 40 or (thanks to medical progress) even at 70.
Note that all of these forms of marriage were common in ancient times before the introduction of Christian "morality" (Islam, which came after Christianity, still allows them).
