i really dig this. your sound selection is fantastic and you make really good use of dynamics.

this is really cool, the jazz-funk vibes are super fun and vocals are used in an interesting way. if i could make one suggestion i would cut down on the use of risers, but that's really a matter of personal preference.

was constantly waiting for it to go somewhere, but It never did. Try working on your songwriting/dynamics. Listen to music like this that you like and study how their music utilizes timbrel and dynamic changes to tell a story.

aw thanks man. all of the tracks i post here are intended to be on one album or another -- i don't really like putting out singles. i enjoy having a larger project to work towards, and don't want to release things one by one.
it's just nice to share things you're happy with with others :^)
I admire that. Honestly that's something I struggle with personally. Like I listen to your music, and its decent. How do you deal with the fact that there's millions of other soundcloud producers out there who are better than you, or just as good? I know it's not a contest and you should make music for you. But for me personally, after i've made a song I've heard it so many times I'm sick of it. So it's really difficult to "make music for me" when there's a massively saturated market out there now that everyone and their dog can post music to soundcloud

NEW SONG COMING SOON
The ceiling is very high and you will never hit it. I occasional struggle with practicing my native instrument (cello) and I notice problems in my technique that I've usually had for years. I get really down in the dumps about it and inevitably find some video online of someone playing far better than I likely ever will in my life. My past tutor, who taught me much always told me that when these feelings happen to you, stop looking at stuff like that. Don't stare up at the skill ceiling, and don't put away the instrument/piece your working on. Instead hit it harder and focus upon the effort/output. Tighten and narrow your vision and charge ahead. It's cheesy or whatever but it helps a lot in my opinion. The best at your craft is irrelevant to you and even more-so to your audience.

This whole set reminds me a lot of the "dawn city" era of anamanaguchi which is a favorite of mine. The only track that strays away from this motif is also the one I enjoyed the least on the tape 'Don't care / hounds of low'. Each track seems to really describe a place or idea and fleshes it out the more we listen, but 'Don't care' grinds on with those string like synths and is more dissonant and morose than your other tracks. That's not to say that it's not good, I just feel very -into- the world your describing with the other tracks. I adore the opening theme and it's the highlight of the tape for me. I've listened to it and 'Butterfly nights' a few times apiece and I can so vividly picture the start menu cascading down out of the top of the screen, a great adventure to be had! Once the player hits start we're taken to our protags room and butterfly nights plays. It's so silly but they very much belong in the same "world" and that cohesion is sacred and nostalgic to me. Fresh but not over dramatic or too busy like a lot of chip tunes as of late, looking forward to more of your releases in the future.

Hm. Yeah that makes sense. For one, I'm pretty confident in the quality of my music. Without trying to sound like a dick, I think I've found a pretty interesting voice/style over the years and am a pretty good producer. An objective measure of "goodness" is only really important when you're making the same exact kind of music as every other Soundcloud rapper/trap/hip hop/etc. etc. producer. If you're one of those people, you're probably never going to make it, because there's just so goddamn much shit that's exactly the same out there. Cross-genre it doesn't really mean anything to compare the quality of the music -- they're different markets entirely. The most important thing anyways in my mind is finding an interesting voice or niche. It's actively unhelpful IMO to think of things in terms of "there are just so many people, I'll never make it" because that's not really how it works, or it's at least a gross oversimplification.
I definitely make music for myself, also. I make the sort of music I would like to listen to if it existed. That's obviously always the number one goal. I definitely get sick of hearing my own songs too many times as well. I guess, I've been making music for a really long time, and I started out releasing tracks whenever I would finish them. I haven't released anything real for years and years, but I've been continuously making music. I'm just now getting to the point where I believe my music is good/interesting enough to stand out, and is something I can be proud of. There are different ways to think about it, but in my mind, I have no reason to release anything unless I really believe in it and am proud of it beyond any doubt. That's why I never release anything. That, and I think of albums as the sort of atomic unit of musical art that I'd like to be releasing. Don't rush into releasing anything too quickly. Take your time, make music for you, maybe come up with a project you'd like to work towards. That's just my advice.
thanks dude, this is one of the most in dept critiques i've had on a project. it might surprise you, but i've never really been into video games, until the start of this year when i got a 3ds and started playing pokemon moon. i didn't know what chiptune was until i finished the project. i just try to convey my own emotions in my music (i think that's what video game composers do with the emotions portrayed in the games as well). i'll definitely check out dawn city!

Your unorthodox remixes are pretty sick. Dig all the vocal fx you apply.

I love the vibe you got going on. The artwork is neat and the music sounds good. I fuck with the experimental production. Ill be on the lookout for new shit from you guys.
lo-fi beats get repetitive after a while, but I like the samples you are using. This track has a neat sound, would like to see more like it. Why not put a bunch of beats together and release a tape?
Some decent beats. Got a clams casino vibe. The drum patterns are there, but the sound selection is to similar for a tape this big. Try to use some different sounds and take some risks with weird effects or whatever. Talents there but I think you need to experiment a little more. I fug wit it tho.
Please make more shit like Criminal Lover. Take the energy you have on that song and add it to all your other tracks and they become way better. I like your sound a lot so far, but I think you should steer away from the sadboy cloud trap shit. Sounds too similar too all the other garbage on SC (I fuck with piano melody on this track though). Keep making weird shit man I look forward to your new releases.
I really like the mood on this track. Maybe some background ambiance to the the backbone of the beat, but that might not work. I checked out some of your other tracks and I can see the ambient in them. Straight ambient tracks like this I listen to a lot. I would listen to an album of this.
Heres my shitty bandcamp album, Soundcloud is linked in my bio for my beats/singles.

sept 2018 is really pretty, i love the mix of background noise with the piano
definitely gonna check out more of your tracks, these are really chill
this is pretty a pretty hardcore nirvana copy, and that's not exactly a bad thing; this sounds like it was directly inspired by Incesticide, in both production and instrumentation
i really like it but I'm also super into nirvana so i dunno i'm probably biased
no eye deer and bills are probably my favorites there
i adore this, it sounds so fucking cool; the end reminds me a lot of early ariel pink
i've been checking out a lot of your other stuff and i really like it, especially "sebastian comes through"
it's been a while (about a year) since I've made anything, but I have something that I've been messing with for the past few days. thank you guys for still being here
holy shid, 0:50 is very smooth
thick sound, drums are complex, nice use of samples
very enjoyable, would drive a fast car to this
