DAILY REMINDER THAT THIS IS DEVIN'S TOP 2 EVER AFTER DECONSTRUCTION
DAILY REMINDER THAT THIS IS DEVIN'S TOP 2 EVER AFTER DECONSTRUCTION
Rolled 4 (1d6)
LET THERE BE LIGHT
LET THERE BE MOON
LET THERE BE STARS
AND
LET THERE BE YOU
But deconstruction is not even one of his better albums.
Ocean Machine, Accelerated Evolution,Terria, City, Ziltoid, KI, Synchestra, are all definitely better than Deconstruction
His best albums are Addicted, Terria and Ziltoid.
I didn't hear all of Empath, but Genesis and Spirits Will Collide are let downs honestly.
I miss the old Devin, remember how amazing some of the stuff he made were?

>Imagine actually believing this
All great albums but don't forget Synchestra and Ocean Machine and KI and City
>Genesis
>let down
wtf
Spirits Will Collide is the worst song in the album, though.
Synchestra and Ki are only ok, and City is not a solo album.
How many times does he say "ALL HAIL" in this one?
>be me
>Spirits Will Collide sounds
>wtf
>Pick up King
>Replace Spirits Will Collide with King
>mfw Empath is now a 10/10 and one of the best albums of the modern era
The track just doesn't work well in my opinion.
I will explain in more detail what i didn't like about the track:
The intro was fine. it's maybe not as epic as Devin wanted it to be, but it was alright. but then the entry of the drums was really weak and it didn't feel like it builds up to what comes after it, it's suck a weak and flacid transition.
The entire song is full with weak transitions that i feel like do not enhance the song as a whole, but take away from the experience. another part that really sticks to me as weak is the "old school" part in 5:55 in the middle of the disco part. it doesn't contribute to anything, it just takes away from the experience. in addition, the production of the song is really sterile and it doesn't sound as organic as the production in earlier Devin albums.
Don't get me wrong, the song has some nice ideas so it's not a complete failure, but as a whole its a disappointment
>mfw Empath is the first Devin album to be perfectly dynamic and not brickwalled at all since he started to mix his own albums
Synchestra and Ki has some incredible songs.
Triumph has to be one of Devin's best songs, it's so good
As i wrote earlier, i haven't heard Empath as a whole yet. only Genesis and Spirits Will Collide, which i was not impressed by
this is the only correct ranking
rateyourmusic.com
I don't get what is so great about Ki I mean sure it has some cool songs but it is also plaged with boring soft alt rock like Terminal and Winter
I like soft alt rock
Terminal's great. I'd happily cut Winter though.
cringe
you have high score for a trip
Also i highly disagree with that ranking, i already wrote which Devin albums i think are the best.
But it's all subjective.
With that said, why the fuck Accelerated Evolution is so low? i would easily put it in the top 5 Devin albums ever, including SYL albums
Should i really remind you all how incredible Accelerated Evolution was? fine
Accelerated Evolution? top? It's like his last re-harsh of his old alt-prog metal sound after he started to change of direction with great stuff like Synchestra or Ziltoid.
The sense of melody is super uninteresting, I feel that lacks a lot of substance and the pop tha tries of does even kinda generic, the production is not even great at all like in other albums of him, the only thing I remember loving is that 3D solo in Deadhead, nothing else.
and Slow Me Down has one of the most cliched melodies in music history as the chorus, you know? It makes me literally cringe, no joke
my iq to the left
I'm with this guy. Accelerated Evolution is only good compared to his last few records. Compared to his other older works it's super forgettable.
Not re-harshed at all. the sound of Accelerated Evolution is nothing like any other Devin album that came before or after it.
The melodies in Accelerated Evolution are superior to any melody in Deconstruction, lol. i don't know how can you not love the melodies in songs like Depth Charge, Storm, Away, Suicide, all are absolutely stellar songs.
Slow Me Down is not bad but its definitely the weakest track on the record.
How the hell do you find it forgettable?
For me Accelerated Evolution is one of his most memorable records by far. the melodies in the good songs of that album are catchy as hell
>How the hell do you find it forgettable?
Couldn't tell you, I forget how it sounds.
Ignore the weird image at the start of the video. this should make you love Accelerated Evolution again:
Deconstruction > Empath > Ziltiod > Ocean Machine > Terria > Addicted! > Accelerated Evolution > Casualties of Cool > Synchestra > Ki > Ghost > Z2 > Epicloud > Transcendence > whatever is left
I left SYL stuff off which I'm not a big fan of except Alien, which I might put between Ki and Ghost
Kek
Ew.
Synchestra > Ki > Ocean Machine > Ziltoid > Ghost > Infinity > Casualties of Cool > Terria > The Hummer > Accelerated Evolution > Addicted > Cooked on Phonics > Sky Blue > Physicist > Empath > Transcendence > Dark Matters > Deconstruction > Epicloud > Devlab
Let me try do a ranking. im not including Empath because i haven't heard it yet
Ocean Machine > Accelerated Evolution = City = Terria = Synchestra = Ziltoid > Ki = Alien > Strapping Young Lad s/t = Epicloud = Addicted = Infinity = Deconstruction > Casualties Of Cool = Ghost = Heavy as a really heavy thing > The New Black >>>>>>>> Physicist > Dark Matters > Transcendence > Sky Blue > The Hummer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Devlab
>visit Yea Forums for the first time to see Mick Jagger news
>people actually talking about Devin Townsend in a positive way
Imagine my shawk
Forgot to rank Cooked on Phonic. put it together with Sky Blue i guess
I respect this ranking. Synchestra is incredible but doesn't get as much love as it should
his new album is really good
From the little i heard sadly i think its like transcendence 2.0
You mean Epicloud 4.0?
how about you listen to it
I will eventually not now tho
Epicloud actually had some great ideas tho, it did not just mash random things together for the sake of it. that's why i think Epicloud is better than the albums in that style Devin made later
What in the world is this tour that he's going on? Devin acoustic, Dance with the Dead, and some noise rock weirdo are opening for some ugly clown metal band I've never heard of.
Tfw my brother thinks Epiclouder was better than Epicloud.
Epicloud was better and it's not even close
if you like how Synchestra kicks off with that holy trinity of the first three tracks I feel like you will like how Empath ends. And by that I mean the whole of Singularity. Most worthwhile thing on the album and one of the best things he has done in his career imo.
